#3450 was the 1st Santa Fe 4-6-4 Hudson build in 1927 by Baldwin and placed in passenger service the following month. #3463 was also build by Baldwin in 1937 and placed in passenger trains.

The Santa Fe rr 3460 class engines were among the heaviest Hudson type locomotives ever built and 3460 was the only streamlined ATSF steam locomotive. Hopefully engine 3463 will be cosmetically restored & rebuilt to a more respectable physical condition in the future.

3463 owned by the Coalition for Sustainable Rail in Minneapolis is the only "super Hudson" left and probably, if fully restored, the fastest steam locomotive on the planet. Yes, faster than that Brit LNER they are so proud of ... It would be fun to see them prove it!

Since 3460 had streamlining, it's top speed could be possible to 133 - 135 mph, could easily beat mallard but would need a huge amount of maintenance. Also the fact that it triggers me because santa fe could've put one of these hudsons on excursions

If you read "Santa Fe's Big Three" by S. Kip Farrington Jr., (which has a complete record of this run) you will find that on December 9 thru 12, 1937 Santa Fe 3461 ran Los Angeles to Chicago. However, to suggest that the whole trip was completed without maintenance is ludicrous. Anyone who knows anything at all about steam locomotives, knows that this is not possible. Stops for lubrication with non-roller bearing rods are required at approximately 100 mile intervals, Plus, more frequent water and fuel stops. In the case of Run #22 (LA-Chicago), service stops were made at Barstow, Needles, Seligman, Winslow, Gallup, Albuquerque, Las Vegas (NM), Raton, LaJunta, Dodge City, Newton, Emporia, Kansas City, Shopton (Fort Madison), and Chicago. Also, FYI, LaJunta, Colorado is pronounced as La Hunta.

I wish to see the Blue Goose is preserved, but I was thinking... I wish once 3463 (being the only 3460 class preserved) was cosmetically restored, it should be receiving a blue goose streamline shrouding, so 3463 will be the Blue Goose.
