Great video, there's a third preserved H16-44 in Mexico, it's NdeM 602 which was saved from the scrap yard in 1986 for the 25th anniversary of the completion of the Chihuahua Pacifico line. It currently rests in the National Railway Museum in Puebla.

Only rule is it can’t be an engine I’ve already covered and 1 locomotive recommended per person per video. Any more and your picks will be rendered null and void.

Fun facts: The upper cylinders were air-cooled; the lower bank water cooled. As with all 2-cycle diesels, FMs were supercharged (no intake valves).

Not true about the air cooling of the upper cylinders. F-Ms have no upper or lower cylinders. The cylinder is in the central part of the engine. There are upper and lower pistons and they move towards the center and away from the center of the cylinder. The upper part of the liner has a water jacket just below where the intake ports are. Yes the very upper part of the cylinder liner has fins that are in the airflow going into the cylinders but it is not in the combustion area of the cylinder and is not nearly as hot a part of the engine as the lower part of the liner where the exhaust ports are. Those fins serve to warm the air going into the engine for better combustion.

H20-44, a 2000 HP loco. Looks a lot like the H16-44 but isn't the same. It has no short hood and was designed as a switcher more than a road loco although it rode on road trucks. Because it had no short hood, the windows on the cab sides were D shaped instead of oval like the H16-44's were. Three of the H20-44s were saved including the one in Texas. Another resides at the IL RR Museum. The third is at the San Diego RR Museum. The one in Texas originally was an AC&Y loco while the other two were UP locos. There are also a number of H10-44 and H12-44 preserved and they can be distinguished by the square cab windows.
