In this video, we will be discussing two really exciting details from the Alien Romulus trailer that suggest the involvement of Engineers or Space Jockeys in the plot. I already have broken down the entire trailer in my other video, so definitely check it out if you haven't seen it yet.
But upon further analysis of the trailer, I discovered two additional significant details. The first directly references David, suggesting that he completed his Xenomorph design, culminating in an Alien queen. And the second detail indicates some form of direct involvement of the Engineers in the plot.
On the surface the trailer suggests that Alien Romulus is a soft reboot situated in the Alien timeline but seemingly unconnected to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, however these details indicate the complete opposite.
Let's start with the connection to David's storyline, followed by the detail that points the presence of the Engineers in the film.

I know im in the minority, but I really like Prometheus and Covenant. Yes there are plot holes. Yes there's a lot of questions. But they're both beautiful films and important to the over all story. Im so looking forward to Romulus. I have a feeling they're going to nail it. Fede seems to really appreciate the franchise and seems to be a true fan, so one would think he knows what the true fans want to see in a new Alien film, and i really hope he delivers. The trailer was absolutely perfect and looked like they're off to a good start. Will def be in theaters seeing this night 1. By far my most anticipated film of the year

Prometheus was one of the best Alien movies, i would even put it above Aliens. Covenant was meh, some things made 0 sense and i put it in the same camp with Alien 3 and Resurrection. But if Romulus is a straight up reboot, it would be such a waste.

To me it seems more and more that David is trying to recreate the Xenomorphs but he is NOT the original creator of them. Neither are the Engineers. They were also trying to recreate the Xenomorph or Deacon. But the origin of them is still more ancient than we realize

I’ve always believed that the xenomorph species is one of the first species in the universe and the alpha engineers found their home world and believed them to be a god. These xenomorphs were kind and benevolent but these alpha engineers figured out how to properly use the goo. It wasn’t black but gold and they created their own world and beliefs around these xenomorph’s and gold goo. They created the engineers from the prometheus and covenant movies but didn’t teach them how to use the gold goo. These alpha engineers left this universe and the beta engineers tried to copy their creators but created the black goo we know today in the newer movies. Just my take on this

Given the quality and coherence of movies these days, the explanation for the blue mist could be as simple as ”we thought it looked cool in Alien so we put it in this movie as well, something for the fans to notice” without any consideration to if it makes sense inside the world of these movies.

I do agree one thing I've noticed in recent years is that Fans put way too much thought into these big, franchise movies than the actual Directors and their writing teams. I would like Fede to connect it up but Im simply not going to build my hopes up; I did that massively with Covenant and with quite a few other movies, especially starwars and been let down. Not again!

actually the explanation of the blue mist is that Scott originally had in mind to have something more complicated as a "protection" element and was not really doable, but the set had this blue light from a concert that either happened before or after the shooting and they found that it looked very interesting... so it was kind of a "sure thatll work" thing that ended up being very iconic

@@RaikenXion for sure we drastically overthink this stuff... if you've been involved in any kind of storytelling or script writing on this level you know that its hard enough just to make a film work, and the deeper backstory is not nearly as fleshed out in the minds of the writers or directors as we like to think

The ‘wolf’ on the door, is related to Romulus and Remus (the two children under the wolf in the very same image - that same image is a very famous historical image taken from the story of Romulus and Remus). Also if a theory only links the new movie to the Prometheus story arc via a deleted scene then surely - straight off the bat - the theory is moot, because quite simply a deleted scene cannot be considered canon ….because it was deleted from the final presentation. Therefore, it didn’t happen.

"a deleted scene cannot be considered canon ….because it was deleted from the final presentation." No. There is a 'theater version'/'radio edit' and then there is a 'director's cut' - and the references in question go back to at least Alien 3. WY DAVID is just a missing link that explains why the company is aware of the species in Alien 1 and concerned with protecting and refining _a bioweapon_ - whose destination appeared to have always been Earth where 'a culling could accelerate evolution' (as a theme of a 'predator-prey dichotomy', playing out in every movie plot - where a predator species literally rapes and 'impregnates' protagonists).

I don't really think David 'created' the Alien. To me, from the movies, it seems more like the Alien creates itself with whatever is around being a catalyst to be used. So more of what would be David moving the Alien along its natural path with refinement. Or something like that. For example, there was a mural in Prometheus that depicted a fully-formed Alien that looked not at all much different from the standard Alien we know and love.

YES I Want To SEE HOW THE Prequel films turn out, think the next film could be a great mixture of things in that next film to see where David8 lands and starts to carry on with his experiments, While the Joint company is on it's way to link up with David8, Weyland Yutani and also have a lot of Japanese people in it too with the company Yutani being Japanese, when they land with david8 ONLY the Owner's know what he is up too while the others just think it is a colonizing mission to back the Covenant ya know, then also half way through the film the VERY LAST Bio engineer's land on that Planet 4 the one David8 WIPED out of life, see what happened via hologram technology in that city's buildings with the same tech it has on their ships a, so in the last act we will see the engineer's on route to go kill David8 while The on coming Weyland & Yutani on the planet with David8 doing their dirty deeds in the back ground and we see a MIGHTY clash of small army's of the Bio Engineer's like ( 25 to 50) of them with like a few hundred of the company's/David8 new improved Alien's and the Weyland & Yutani's Company's bodyguard's solider's like 50 - 100 too all clashing , and at the end of the film nearly all die apart from one Bio suited engineer with a QUEEN Alien inside him, that David8 tricked that engineer to have him in before David8 gets destroyed with a smile on face, his last words be like , Good luck my Queen', or something like that !!!! think it would be a good mixture of story space travel from the new joint company's side of things revenge for the last bio engineer's and a great MINI WAR ACTION TO End the film !!!!!

He indicated that the Xenomorph has some evolving to do before we get to ALIEN. He said that the Xenomorph in ALIEN Covenant was more Organic and not Biomechanical like in ALIEN but we eventually will discover why the Xenomorph is Biomechanical. And we would eventually discover who the Space Jockey was. Instead of creating them, he could have reverse-engineered them from pre-existing Engineers' records. They banished the "wolf", and David resurrected it. All of this would be possible because of an Engineer ship crashing on a planet, releasing the black goo. And once the local fauna was changed, humans come along and encounter it--with an AI android picking up where the Engineers left off. After reverse-engineering the Engineers' "wolf biotechnology" David sends the info to Weyland, and the rebirth of the wolf continues. So many events needed to happen in order to lead to the events of the Alien movies. Also, perhaps the derelict spacecraft was the one that was on its way to deliver its payload of xenomorphs to Earth, but crashed before it could. The Engineer in Prometheus rips off Weyland's head because he knows that Weyland comes from the planet that he was on his way to destroy. Man, all of these details about origins and explanations really makes this IP feel more and more like X-Files lol

To be fair, there is still a major unknown of the xenomorph. Even if we accept David having created the iteration of them we are familiar with, it is still the product of a flawed copy of dna from a species we are missing half the origin of. The original Deacon, the Engineers 'lord' was created from an engineer seemingly accepting a still unknown facehugger. That the engineers were so focused on the Deacon's blood after its death or loss, would imply that they didnt have or didnt know Where that facehugger that Made The Deacon came from

dont get wrapped around the axels about " blue mist". Its just a blue beam of light set at a height just outside the stasis field to observe the surface so when something breaks its the line in the dark its still visible. It would of most likely been apart of an alarm at some stage to let the space jockey know if the stasis field was comprimized. when you think about the size of the room they are in and how ineffiecient it would of been to fully illuminate, the simplest method would be a laser. The mist itself is just the normal humidity which the biproduct of the eggs. you mentioned blue mist waay too much, its in alot of sci fi. infact the scanner droid in Aliens uses one to scout the pod ripley was in.

I can actually see the previous films connecting to Romulus, and I also believe since I saw Alien Covenant, I also believed that David recreated the Xenomorph species with his experiments with "The Pathogen" since the drawings and some of the dried out bodies weren't part of his experiments, the cave inside the engineer world from Prometheus already showed an organism similar to the Xenomorphs into the wall of the main cave where "The Black goo" was storaged. The only way to know about this answers is to wait for the movie and see how the Xenomorph outbreak took place on the Romulus station.

Interesting. If you’re right. I think Romulus is a “rescue” mission to the planet that David goes to. David secretly has taken over Weyland Yutani since weyland and vickers are dead. He hacks the mainframe and changes directives. He turns all of the people in stasis on the ship into xenomorphs without perfecting them and making a queen. So he orders Romulus to come investigate and makes his queen on the Romulus. The blue mist link could be David as he his the only being with vast knowledge of the engineers. Expect fastbender to be in this movie. Ridley loves surprises. He takes the queen on Romulus to the planet that ripely goes to in alien. Has the queen hibernate while he orders the civilization and mining operation to occupy the planet. Hence linking all three prequels to alien. I’m proud we got this far. After the low box office sales of Prometheus I didn’t think Ridley would get his trilogy prequel. I always felt David made the covenant come to that planet.

My idea for a third alien covenant/prometheus movie is as follows: The engineers are the main characters in the movie and comes to the planet that was in the Prometheus movie. There they find Weyland inside the crashed spaceship. They have a blue elixir(which both heals and gives eternal life) which they empty all over him and bring him to life. But while doing this the Deacon from the Prometheus movie sneaks into their spaceship and hide it self in one of the ventilation chambers. In the next part they arrive at the planet from alien covenant and find the other robot(Walter) who is david's twin. The engineers use the blue elixir and repairs him. Once awaken the engineers and Weyland get to know all the horrible things that David has done, and weyland says "we have to stop David" . They set course for origae. When they arrive, they scans all the planet, and finds the planet is full of hostile organisms except on a high mountain where they discover that there are humans inside a cave. Inside the cave they meet a herd of children, who tell that when they had lived on the planet for over ten years, they began to be attacked by Xenomorphs and all the adults died or were turned into these creatures. There were also great giants developed by someone the children calls David. The engineers get ready to wipe out all the Xenomorphs that David has created, but the great giants manage to escape with one of the engineers' spaceships. The engineers and Weyland hunts the spaceship and manage to force the spaceship down on the planet lv426.Where it start sending a distress signal. The engineers return to Origae to find David, but discover that he has escaped. In the last part we see David arriving and meeting an unknown alien species on a tropical like planet. At the same time Nostromo leaves a nearby planet with the cargo of ore. But when he and the unknown aliens have left the spaceship, the deacon slips out of the ship and is seen running toward the nearest settlement. And that makes the cliffhanger that ends the third movie. The ending movie could have a duration about five hours ?

Thanks for creating this, sir. I share your belief that the mystery of the alien has become over explained. I too loved the original Lovecraftian horror, and the suggestion that these Space Jockey creatures stumbled across them millions of years ago before the eons of time fossilised the original pilot. I think that’s what made it all so eldritch and unknowable for me. It truly felt more “alien” when I had no concept of where it or even the Space Jockeys came from.

Alien 1 made man look smaller in the universe, with ancient threats and struggles truly alien - as it should be in comparison to 'UN Waggontrek in space' - but the first movie had already established that the corporation new about the species, with the android as it's agent. Therefore it shouldn't surprise that Scott came up with 'hallucinating AI' DAVID as a link to take man down a notch - though with a maze-like plot and world building (from the movies, the engineer species appears to be completely superfluous, the xenomorph may as well have evolved, naturally).

@@J0MBi "(...) the Alien species is remarkably well adapted to impregnating humans. That's incredibly unlikely to happen without some kind of evolutionary interaction - or design." It's a very good point - in our contemporary perspective - but it is likely that no such considerations were taken when Giger conceptualized the 'Alien' species life cycle for the first movie - back then it appears to have been a more artistic approach of merging sexuality, violence, technology - and insect social organization - into one image of horror. The human genome e.g. wasn't sequenced when Alien was produced while in 2008 gain of function research had altered the traits of viruses, bringing such technical details of genetic engineering into the public record. One can wonder whether Scott decided to reboot the franchise because of these social events and had then shifted the protagonist de facto from a familiar female heroine to a male android - even more, have the female actors literally slashed when other movies feature all female heroine casts... The movies didn't resonate well if taken at face value, hence the rise of 'Alien Theory' channels on social media where people wonder about the artistic process and the world building.

@@christophmahler Yeah it's definitely something to consider. Science fiction and art is always to some degree a reflection of the era and context it is produced in, but from what I've seen of the pre-production materials for ALIEN and Scott's discussion of his ideas for a potential ALIEN 2 project a lot of the concepts explored in Prometheus were in Scott's mind for a while. There was an entire religious/sacrifical element that was dropped from the original ALIEN script due to budget restrictions, and both Cameron and Scott mused openly about the nature of the crashed juggernaut and the origin/purpose of the Alien species it contained. As for Giger's designs, I remember reading something to the effect that he had recurring nightmares of the images and creatures in his art and once he created the art works and shared them the nightmares stopped. But as you say they are clearly drawing inspiration from all kinds of sources and touch on all kinds of subjects that people find repugnant and taboo. My own personal take on the shift to focus on David is to give the audience a singular villian character who embodies the specific kind of evil that Weyland-Yutani always symbolised. He takes on the nature of his creator, a man who clearly seeks to gain the power of the gods for his own ends, and David takes over Weyland's work after Weyland's death on LV-223 and seeks that power for whatever ultimate goal he envisions. Where this fits in the context of film protagonists/antagonists I'm not sure, but I reckon that Shaw and Daniels being removed offscreen is best explained with the easily observed audience backlash against the characters, and studio interference in the projects generally. But again this is just another example of the real world conditions a text is produced in shaping the text itself.

Definitely after watching this analysis, the company was definitely aware of the Xenomorph because of David, and they redirected the Nostromo to LV426. Ash was given specific instructions to obtain it but failed, so they sent a secret scientific bioweapons team down to LV426, they brought the eggs back up to do their own research on the Romulus and obviously things went wrong. Not that hard to figure out!

David felt humans and Engineers were not on his level. In Prometheus we basically saw on the ship where the Engineers experiments seemed to have backfired on them. It was David’s perfect opportunity to play God more than his father Weyland. David wanted to perfect what the engineers couldn’t and tame the Xeno which he did in Covenant and the Engineers didn’t in Prometheus which is why they were all piled up dead. David essentially did create the Xeno because more than likely if David does reappear the Xenos will run rampant and David will have full control of them with a flute in his mouth

Prometheus was a good film that suffered fro Ridley Scott's insistence on cutting/editing down the the bone for "pacing". He leaves too much on the cutting room floor (so to speak). Covenant even more so. Scott had the cheek to say Blade Runner 2049 was too long. No it was perfect. It had room to breath for the audience to absorb what was going on. Scott's version would have not made sense as he cut out too much. Same with Prometheus. It needed about 20 mins more. It all happened too fast. Possibly Scott's background in TV adverts? What was great about Prometheus was it riffing on Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken. That whole concept is very compelling. Personally I wish Prometheus 2 (Paradise?) had been made and it wasn't until the third prequel that we fully got back into Alien territory. Stupid studio (and Scott) decision.
