I mean the asian guy is right to some extent because if anything that Ai and robotics will easily automate will be anything with math and numbers anything mechanical its only a matter of time before entire factories are completely automated that is just a fact so engineering jobs will be a thing of the past, I have more of future in the long run serving tacos to other humans. The only missing part is enough powerful nano chips to process the masses of information and some type of Ai logic to put it all together.. The only thing here is how long till this chips are available in the real world but engineers have been working on nano technology for years now..

@@RM360CR well, you are assuming that engineers just do math and physics and that's it. the thing is, engineers do not even do any calculation at all themselves (of course this depends on the type of engineering you are talking about), they already rely on machines to do the calculations and even simulations. engineering is just like programming, you have some knowledge of maths, physics, chemics and other stuff, and combine this knowledge in a "creative" way to "intentionally invent something new and useful'. AI will almost never replace creative work. saying that AI will replace engineering is just like saying that AI will replace programming. both involve intentional creativity to invent something new and useful, something AI cannot and will never do, at least maybe 50-100 years from now.

Yea I am an engineering student in uni and I go to university for about 56 hours a week. Personally I don't find it that bad, yea like it's tough but doable as long as you have a normal work ethic.

The difference is that there is 35 million youtubers and less than 1% are successful, in comparison over 95% of engineers are employed.

I think a better approach for him would have been to make a video like “Why Engineering isn’t for everyone” rather than “Don’t Major in Engineering” and then explain what he didn’t like about engineering. He just used one bad experience to make it seem like the entire field and industry was bad.

Let me tell you, I had no internships, but ended up graduating with a 3.0+ gpa. The first year of applying to jobs I got a few calls but nothing serious. I took a break and flew out of the country, then after almost a year I applied and got many calls for entry level jobs in engineering, management, etc. starting at 60-70k, plus No experience. Currently working as a plant engineer, focusing on manufacturing and managing. don't be afraid to apply to jobs, your degree shows skills that you might not even know about and your future could not necessarily be for you to be a mechanical engineer but that Degree will definitely put you in the path on high end jobs. now I understand why Engineering degrees are in high demand. I'm the first generation to graduate in my family. Keep grinding guys. Focus on the big picture, don't let anyone discourage you and let life do his thing. 😎💪

@@abbaemmanuel3450 If I were you I would go for the title that lets you be more marketable. That's why I chose my major because it's a well know major amongst people in general but if I were to chose civil engineering I would just be limited to Construction and traffic related industries. A mechanical engineering degree gives you more room to juggle and it looks much more impressive on the resume on the eyes of recruiters. Once you on the market, you gotta impress recruiters and sell yourself though your resume and your interview skills that come naturally with practice. But Also if you want to become a computer engineer and that's your dream ultimately, I would go for that major.

What happened to him occurred to me as well. I was fired for the first time from my 2nd internship because of bad work ethic. It took me 2 years to move on from that experience. Worst part of my life was when the dean of civil engineering told me in person that I'm getting kicked out from the program because of many dropped courses. Again, bad work ethic! It also took me a few months to figure out what it is that I wanted to do so I worked in fast food jobs. Then I realized, "maybe the reason why I kept giving up in CE is because I'm more into other fields of engineering." See, the difference between me and him is that I didn't give up. I'm slowly changing. I'm pursuing a major in mechanical engineering not only because of the money I can or will make for working 40 hrs a week, but also because I like the job that I have. Best part is that I'm contributing to the creation of something. :) Also, I agree with you especially on the part about talking to the managers if we don't like what we're doing. In addition, I was also afraid that I wouldn't get a job in engineering earlier in my college years. To my surprise, I got my first one year internship in my 2nd year in college. You never know what happens. Keep doing your best future engineers! I'll do the same.

Thanks sharing. I also facing similar situation with yours. I currently also work on an Power Plant Project although not as Civil engineer. However, I think I will still hold on to it while simultaneously try new things to find out I am best at.

Everyone is definitely capable, it depends on your approach on life, on your attitude. As a fellow mechanical engineer, I can say you definitely have a mechanical engineer mindset rather than the other guy, especially on how you handle data/facts. He suffers from confirmation bias. He didn't seem to learn much from engineering school. Thanks for video. This should help future engineers or scientists pursuing this field.

Honestly, I prefer the cubicle farm to the open desk. It's hard to concentrate when you can see everyone.

I'm from India and this kinda people exist.......they push you to opt coding and IT job, even if r from mechanical,civil or electrical engineering........i really appreciate your video 🙌

As an optical engineering major, I just wanted to say I love your videos! You remind me why I got into engineering and it really helps me be able to look at the broader picture when getting into the field. But my god thank you for correcting his poor researching skills lol

Mech e is such a diverse field like you were saying, but also even if you want to start a buisiness getting a mech e degree can put you in a position where you have in depth knowledge of a certain field/buisiness that alot of other ppl don't have, knocking out alot of competition

Another option: work your butt off in engineering for a few years (40hrs/week) While you build your "side hustle" and resume (30hrs/wk). Then you have financial stability, experience to fall back on, and the money to invest into that side work

In another video, you stated certain students enrolled in engineering aren’t necessarily passionate about engineering, but rather were just good at math and science in highschool. This guy seems to be one of those people. When you have a genuine interest in how things work/the function of the things we use everyday, nothing can stop you from making it as an engineer.

I agree a lot with Matt Tran here. The thing is the engineering market is very saturated today. If you want to study engineering thats fine. But only do it if you really like it. So if you like the idea of space, cars, etc then sure. But in my case I only studied mechanical engineering because I was promised plenty of jobs. This was not the case however, the market was very saturated and so I should have chosen something easier. But if you actually like engineering and you also have talent for it, then by all means go for it.

I’m a data scientist. Yes, the pay is better. Yes, the demand is great. But the constant learning curve is high; I’ve seen dudes who were impressive data scientists in 2011 be useless by 2021, because they lost ground to their peers. And also, it’s not like you’ll be working on revolutionary stuff. Most of the jobs will be trying to make people click on ads, or how much to spend on a campaign, or what factors influence performance the most, or analyzing cost/revenue numbers in an A/B test, or something else like that. You’re probably going to be bored and not all that fulfilled. Meanwhile, would you like to do something cool, like work for an auto racing team, or on aerospace design, or defense contracting? Would you like the potential to work projects globally? You can do that with engineering degrees. I know Tran is long gone, but his love of anti-engineering rhetoric, only to redirect people to fields with slightly more demand and slightly more income, isn’t all that helpful. Especially if they hate it. And the engineering job being “boring” isn’t a good reason; the web development job will often be boring as well. You’ll be even more bored if you hate the job, though

The same arguments can be found in any other professional program. So my question always is, what other subject matters that you have learned in the course of your professional degree can you also use to earn a living. A friend of mine got his Chemical Engineering degree major and a business minor. He ended up doing project management and financing startups. Never spent a day make tonnage of poly ethylene or some other widely used materials for manufacturing. So what the engineering degree did for him was to sort through the proposals that were worth funding or not, by crunching through the numbers on Excel or some other spread sheet programs. Was there really going to be a profit made and the money loaned paid back? Was the proposed product to be made real or just fake or junk? For the Mechanical Engineers I also know, some did make innovative products, some worked on structual building projects and some worked on HVAC System designs and improving air flows and energy use conservation. Learning another language besides your native one significantly increase options to find work or as one Petroleum Engineer said to me years ago, have your passport in hand, because you never know where in the world you may go for your next assignment. He could effectively communicate in: English, Arabic, French and was learning German. Engineering Principles are universally used on Planet Earth, not just in one country sitting at a desk in from of a computer screen. Same is true with any other Natural Science or Medicine or Pharmacy or Math etc.

40hrs a week is heaven man. my 1st work was at Construction site as m&e, not that bad actually-66hrs a week is the avg norm. but the work style, the team culture are nice. i only appreciate these after getting into my 2nd job 2nd job, the worst, at a famous korean factory. longest working hour. there was once i had to work for almost 24hr. people are running around due to how hectic and fast pace the work is. it was a culture shock (never work in korean company guys). and i dont feel like eng with the job scope. 3rd job, the best..for the 1st time i feel like eng, i design, i fabricate, i lead field project. make technical report etc. but the company doesnt have financial strength and i was retrench 4th job, i try to get into eng back. but somehow found my way into IT even without it background. but survival is at the essence and i just took the job my career is such a wild horse. i love engineering and tech. but the eng world seem doesnt love me back. im still hopefully that my current job in it sector will let me back into eng possible one that involve IT+mech eng;robotic maybe i dont know

Tamer, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for making this video. When I was in 8th grade in 2016, I did not know everything I know now to criticize Engineered Truth logically. But I still knew that something wasn't right about this guy. Today, you did the right thing by pointing out his errors. I come across this matt trent guy during my second year of uni when I going through a rough patch and wasn't enjoying my aerospace engineering course at all. I was on the verge of dropping out and his constant negative views reinforced the idea engineering isn't for me. Luckily my stubborn af personality hates giving up so got my shit together 3rd year, and now after 2 years in the industry can honestly say have the most fun job out of all my non engineering friends. Engineering field isn't the problem, it's the way he (and initially me) approached the problem that was the issue

Poor guy, average of 100k per annum for a senior web designer is on the low end scale of engineering pay after 2 - 3 years. Also, web designers are constantly having to update their coding repertoire to the latest coding standards. And their previous experiences may not be relevant moving forwards. Engineering is the opposite of that where knowledge update means useful experience and your past engineering experience makes you be a better engineer. Employees pay more for engineering overtime simply because you become a better commodity with experience.

I mean it's pretty hard to find work as an engineer these days. Alot of new graduate without at least 2 years of experience find it very difficult even with a masters degree.

My son is 10 and has been interested in engineering since 7 years old. He taught himself to code at 7 and researched schools in Canada that offer engineering programs, LOL that's how I found this channel. My son told me he wanted to attend Uni of Waterloo so here I am doing research on the subject. He prefers math over English, and he loves science but he just has no enthusiasm for school. I'm at a loss and looking for ways to help him.

I’d start by asking him why he’s not interested. I know that in my case it’s because homework and assignments didn’t feel real, they were just hoops to jump through. Might also be worth looking into schools with alternative teaching styles like a Montessori school or something. Another option might be to reward effort at school with electrical kits or other interesting stuff. It’s also worth getting a good idea of how classes are being taught, often times subjects like maths or science are taught in a way that makes them unappealing and boring to most kids. I’m no expert, but those were a few ideas I had.

@@venlo7113 While I don't know much about your current circumstance, I am a recently graduated highschool student going into mechanical engineering, so maybe my thoughts could help a little bit? I think that while searching for schools with alternative teaching styles are helpful, it might be difficult to find just the right school with the right teachers. While I didn't find other subjects boring, I did find them to be tedious and preferred to work on more STEM related subjects. I think the main ways to work around that is either finding a school with teachers who are enthusiastic about what they teach, or to just accept it that you might not find everything interesting in highschool or middleschool. However, I will suggest that you try to develop his interests over summer or even during the school year. Camps, small projects, or slightly challenging classes when he's older (if he has the motivation for it, don't burn the passion out), could be a great starting point. Though I can't say for sure.

Idk where this 30K number can from but I am a Mechanical Engineer for india and more than 30K students passout as Mechanical Engineer in every single state of our country

I am working almost 14 hours a day and 7 days of week non stop for months without any brake. And he can't work 40 hours a week. And I am a mechanical engineer. I have great portfolio as well. I have diverse skill set incluiding web development and some graphic desiging and Animations related skills. And i hardly make 10K usd per year

Just did a one-minute search. The official USLB outlook for mechanical engineers is about 18,000 new jobs a year throughout the decade. Wnere he get 2500 from.

As a frustrated mech engineer who is doing documentation job for years I agree with the bald guy but should I was trying more when I was younger I would have a better position with better salary. The best tip I can give is to never settle with what they offer you always aim to do the stuff you want even if the salary is basic because then you will improve and finally, will both have a great salary, excellent work environment and interesting things to do. And if you like me are stuck to a boring repetitive job and no one hires you, be the boss of yourself and prepare your own project! there are plenty of needs that us as engineers could find a solution for. At least this what I am going to do in the next 2-3 years from now.

Mechanical engineer here graduated 2 yrs ago , with above avergae grade and multiple internships... Hate it say it but, engineering is overrarted , especially mech,, mechanical dont have old charm , and since came of ai and robotics manufavturing.electric cars. Etc mechanical engineering is joblesss.. There are some some engineering degree which ia still best like comptuer scince , electrical engineering , some times depending on area civil engineering . which have more jobs and salary, my frind who was in my college but he switched to comptuer scinece , now he has good jobs and salary.. While me and some of my mechnicl eng graduate are still jobless , Here me out guys dont take engineering ,especially mech eng , speaking from expernce .. Most of the enginrg student have above avrge iq , take other stream like CPA , finace which have more job opening and starting salary may be low but at the end you can earn twice as any engineer ... Think twice before picking any engineering.

4:56 let's look at it from this perspective: - 113, 900, 000 -> num of channels in youtube. - 23->24,000 -> channels got 1 mil sub at least approx. let's take the higher number here 24k 24000/113900000 *100 ~= 0.02% so about 0.02% of all channel;s actually got 1 mil sub at least (this includes the crazy channels like MrBeast and PewDiePie with 100m+) so chances of making a living with KZread are not that high I get it 1m doesn't necessary means the only way to be rich out of youtube, example being extremely popular in a poor country still you probably earn almost nothing to live with cuz YT partners prog their sucks, or some people with 100k might actually make crazy money but this just shows us how crazy are the odds against you in YT

Engineering is a waste of time, he's right lol this is the worst thing you can do. Almost engineers are unemployed, engineering has the lowest salaries. And please take it as a global thing not just "AMERICA", there's a world outside US too :) If you are from Asia, Africa and so many other regions, engineering is totally waste of time.
