This is going to be a bit of a chatty video because I realize I’ve been gone for a few months and a lot has happened. Most of the time, in my videos, I feel like I’m lecturing or teaching, but in this one, I’m just going to be having a much-needed conversation with a friend talking about career and life updates. Dude...you're 25. With a lot of experience and a bunch of money saved up. You'll be fine. I "started over" at 31, in tons of debt and out of my field for 4 years. I wouldn't give two craps about making content right now. We're engineers for a reason. We want to be challenged everyday. I've been at my startup for 4.5 years, which is pretty lucky. Getting canned would suck, I would just keep grinding for that job that you want and come back when you're ready 👍

Did you start over at 31 in Engineering? Am 26, considering starting over in Engineering (from Econ/data science background so some basic technical skills but little formal training or fundamentals beyond high school). Would be curious to hear about your experience

I went back to school for computer science in my 20s and finished with a master's degree. Before that, I was working at a lot of dead-end jobs. I even have a criminal record with violent crimes and still had success at finding work. My advice is to use your free time wisely and be disciplined. @@Leonardo-vc6sl

I don’t know if either of you will read this but it doesn’t matter. Both of you actually encouraged me to do mechanical engineering after accomplishing pretty much nothing until I was 27 years old. I went back to school and now I’m just a year away from graduating. I took your advice and worked my tail off just to get an internship lined up this summer. Obviously I’m stoked but it was after hundreds of rejections and black sheep mentality. I am surrounded by people who out preform me in almost every aspect and thought I wasn’t going to make it many times (hell, I often still do). Both of your channels kept me going so I just wanted to say that I really appreciate you both for that. I think I speak for many, but we are counting on you to persevere even when times are rough.

@@Leonardo-vc6sl Well I'd worked for a couple years, so I wasn't totally fresh but I had a 4 year jobless gap so it was really hard to find work again. Was basically a new engineer for the first couple years. I don't see any issue with going for a degree. Just find a field that has some value and that you think you'll enjoy. Ask around, reach out to your connects to get some more advice. And keep busy while you're in school; do internships join clubs etc.

I think the business idea is absolutely something you should pursue, as it encompasses the teaching that you like so much and provides everyone access to knowledge just like this channel does. I am just barely going into my first year of university later this year, and i am already feeling more prepared becuase of your content. I personally would be very interested in the business, as i think it would help me get to the engineering positions i want. You would be doing not only yourself but also me and a ton of other people a favor by starting this business. I understand that stability is something you value very much right now, but from my understanding, you will be the most stable a few years after you start your own business. Good luck in whatever path you may pursue. I will keep checking up on you on this channel, so you better post! Have a good one.

I don't comment much (well more so now) but I've been watching your content for awhile. I'm not an engineering major but I am going into software engineering after graduation and despite the differences in our technical backgrounds I still appreciated your content because of this sort of anti-gatekeeping vibe you bring in a place that feels kinda gatekeepy in some respects. I also like how this channel keeps things realistic. None of that endless glorifying of engineering either because it's not all sunshine and rainbows. You show us the ups and downs and that's far more commendable to me than simply showing just the good. The channel helped me curb my expectations too and I'm a much better person for it. Cheers mate you'll get back on it soon enough!

I actually really love this comment, so maybe you should comment more often haha. But, my goal was always to be transparent and not gate-keep because engineering and tech in general is such a gate-keeping industry with the mentality of "every one for themselves" which I didn't like.

Took a long at your LinkedIn, I’m by no means a hiring manager but here are a few reasons why you probably didn’t get the job offer 1. Internships, you did quite a few internships but none were with any major players just start up. 2. Bloated experiences, you are 25 with 16 job experiences lasting from 2 months no longer than 2 years. Looks like job hopping/ resume padding 3. Maybe the content creation?

@@TamerShaheen I'm working at a company called Esteyco in Madrid, Spain. Completing my degree online while working after applying your advice on making a portfolio, having personal projects, looking for internships, learn the required skills on your own. Making a portfolio as an electrical engineer is a bit of a challenge but we did it😂 started watching your videos in 2022 and it absolutely paid off. 3 internships and a full time job since then, very grateful 🙏

You will be okay. People start over at different ages in life. The younger, the easier, so it’s good knowing you are only 25. Many people haven’t even figured out their lives at 25! I could argue that you are so ahead of some people. It’s not a competition. I wish you the very best. It’s a time of adjustment.

Tamer brother. You make hands down the best mech content online. You are the reason why I created my youtube channel about mech as well. Getting into these FAANG companies is largely luck, you know this. You've proven yourself to be worthy time and time over again with your internships. What you are doing with your own business is much more impressive to me than getting an offer at Apple. Keep your head up king, you have personally changed my life.

Also if you want go for software engineering, i would say so the masters. B/c being a masters student makes you eligible for internships. And internships are the best way to break into fang. And the internship money can really help cover school costs. Additionally there are fellowships you can apply to help cover your masters. Look into GEM fellowship.

I gotta respect the hustle man, i graded in Materials Engineering and also got laid off 6 months ago after 2 years as a software consultant (Had passable skills from projects in IT) and it sucked for the pased 6 months i doubled down on IT and got more certs and projects etc. while looking for jobs to no luck. This month i switched back into engineering pure and manged to land a PM role. Excited to see how that works out but still feel i have a foot in IT. Hope this lil rant helps you feel you aren't alone as ive felt the passed 6 months too, alot you said and did was and is exactly me right now
