I read many comments here from young people of today with no knowledge of this song. It was giant in its day as were many other Englebert songs. It wasn't Marvel who created or discovered it. They just borrowed it. It shows how little knowledge of music history the commenters have. When I was a teen and young adult I knew not only my own generations music but the previous ones before me as well. Music was a language in itself used to communicate with others.

I wouldn’t say underrated, just unknown by young people. Englebert was one of the most popular singers worldwide in the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s. His audience was dying off…until now

One month ago Engelberts wife died with coronavirus. I cry when I’m listening to this beautiful song and thinking about the words, it’s so so emotional that “ please God send his girl home to him” because he is a lonely man without his wife. Prayer, talks with God in quiet moments and holding onto the memories of the good times we shared and knowing she's at rest and in Good hands with our Lord gives me immeasurable strength. When the sadness hits me at unexpected moments I keep that in mind and I honor her by keeping her in my heart and I can hear wonderful laugh as if it was yesterday. This song is beautiful and Engelbert Humperdink is In my view one of the most prolific vocalists I've ever heard. He has a voice that just cannot be duplicated because besides the fact that it's a tremendous well rounded full voice, it's the emotional nuances he adds to it that's unique. It's his signature and his alone. Add to that the back drop of Gerard Butler a man's man and this breath taking, incredibly stunning woman ( Marylin Monroe/ Michelle Phiffer Hybrid) and the panorama surrounding it, you have the perfect video 📹 here. I thank my parents for so many things, but one is knowing music like this growing up. Born in ‘70

Why can't they still sing songs like this and play on radio stations in BC Canada in 2024.

I remember dancing to this song with the "love of my life"...High School mid year Ball - year 10 - 1968/69 I think...We missed the bus that night and I walked her home...took us a good hour...holding hands feeling in Heaven in the city centre. She was so pretty and sweet...next day, Sunday, we met again and went to the movies...I saw her again on Monday and every day after that....Today I only see her when I close my eyes...

I grew up listening to this song artist and nearly all of his more popular songs ever since I was a child and after learning the lyrics I sang to most of them because I too have a deep voice and can carry some of the longer lyrics without struggles . It was self-taught not by any music lessons .
