Welcome to the first (of hopefully many more) unsubbed Jonghyun videos that I added subtitles to!
First of all, I'd like to say that the subtitles may contain inaccuracies. Although I'm not new to fan subbing, I'm still a learner (and neither Korean nor English are my first languages) so I apologize for any possible mistakes. Please be patient with me ^^
I've been trying to work really hard on my skills so that translations can be smoother and less repetitive when it comes to certain terms requiring synonyms. Let me know if you have any suggestions about the wording or just... general feedback! Tips on timing & adding subtitles are welcome too - I'd never really used aegisub before so I still need some time to get used to it, apologies about that! Do not steal or repost, however it's okay to repost or make gifs with the watermark. Just, please know that subbing, translating, reviewing, timing & encoding are tedious and challenging tasks!
As you may have seen, Jonghyun said and/or read some specific sentences containing idioms which I thought would be nice if I put them in the description for better understanding (and also for anyone who may be learning or curious).
At 14:12 the commenter says: "누워서 먹으면 소 된다" which is an idiom taken from an old, traditional Korean fairy-tale, telling the story of a young boy. The literal translation is "if you eat while laying down, you'll turn into a cow" and I decided to put such subtitles because if I had made it literal, it would've taken away from the actual story, plus certain expressions don't exist in English and vice-versa, so I thought it'd be best to put it like that.
At 16:13 Jonghyun uses this expression: "낚아버렸어" which, in this specific context, means "I cheated"... in fact, he was supposed to rest but decided to work instead, because he was so bored! This type of expression has more than a meaning to it.
At 17:46 another person commented using the following idiom: "댓글 읽혀지는 거 하늘에서 별 따기 수준". Obviously the fan changed the first part according to the context of what they were going to say, but the latter part of the sentence itself expresses the idea that something is hard to accomplish... as hard as picking a star from the sky.
At 20:33 the song the fan/s were referring to and made a joke with is "가로수 그늘 아래 서면" by Lee Moon-sae.
I think that's pretty much it, if I missed anything else or if you're curious about any other sentence feel free to let me know and I'll do my best to give you a good answer.
