Enemy At The Gates: The final duel
Ойын-сауық
Thinking that he has killed Vasily (Jude Law), König (Ed Harris) goes to inspect the body. As he is walking towards the corpse, he is ambushed by Vasily. Accepting his fate, König doesn’t move and let Vasily shoot him in the head. Vasily then takes König’s rifle and puts it in the hands of his dead friend, Danilov (Joseph Fiennes).

Nobody said a word, and yet the actors spoke volumes. Terrific performances from Ed Harris and Jude Law.
You can see it on Ed Harris' face. First surprise, then assessment of options, then resignation knowing he was going to die. Great acting!!

There is a book, written by Vasily Kozlov. He didn't act alone in that day. Basicly he invented the anti-sniper tactic of the USSR.

Because it is a fight of individuals with a story. WW2 was industrial slaughtering of people on both sides but people need individuals to connect. Of course these sniping did not make much of a difference.

@@thankyouforyourcompliance7386 Sniping in Stalingrad made it impossible to move about the city during daylight, except on all fours. It was part of what drew out the battle from summer until winter and to the Soviet counterattack that encircled 6th Army. The attrition of the German officer corps to snipers was appalling and Paulus was forced to promote NCOs into full officers to make up the difference, resulting in men being promoted above their skills, eroding both the combat ability and morale of their units.

Shifty Powers
I wonder if there was some respect between the 2 on a professional level
I personally prefered that Vasily and Erwin never spoke a word to each other when they finally met. Sure they were enemies who dueled a long time, but in the end it was a sniper duel meaning you wouldn't always have the chance to interact with the enemy before their demise. Which also preserves the mystery between the two.
Ну не могут быть такие красиво ухоженные военные как Джуд Лоу. Слишком США романтизирует всё это.

That's not how the real Sasha fillipov died, yes he was hung. A couple of the Gestapo led him from his house bare foot in the snow along with two other spies, one male and another female and the three of them were hung from tree in the neighbourhood. His mother gave him some food before he was taken thinking he was just being held captive until she witnessed the hanging. His father left so as to not watch. She stayed with the bodies of the three.

I've got one, modified walnut stock for the lefty that shoots it, (Me), Mueller safety, polished turned down bolt handle, Leupold 3x9x48 scope, double set triggers. I easily hit targets nearing 700 yards, very accurate weapon. I have approximately 1,200 rounds of ammo for it plus a friend who reloads. I've had offers in the $3,000-4,000 range. Can't part with it, it's been in my family for over 50 years.
And just like that, Stalingrad was won
Terrific scene - but could never have happened like that as despite the duel Stalingrad was a continual raging battle and standing up like that would drawn the attention of other snipers and artillery etc. - but suspension of belief right..?

The whole 2nd half of the movie is these 2 hunting each other. It culminates with the political commissar sacrificing himself for trying to kill off the MC. The German was trying to confirm his kill on MC during this scene (Russian propaganda had spread MC's face all over the place so they knew who he was)
Pretty disappointing ending. After all they've been through, Konig gets himself killed by walking out in the open like a total moron.
