Interestingly enough, there not only is no evidence to prove he exist, but also Vasily is the only sniper who claims to have killed him, Despite the fact that German snipers and Soviet snipers battle each other throughout the Battle of Stalingrad. Realistically and most likely Vasily had just killed a random German sniper who was simply giving him some trouble, but not some famed German sniper that was popular and some major rank, as a matter of fact, that’s even MORE unlikely. Vasily was most likely just bragging about his kill rather than it being true, not to say he doesn’t deserve his reputation, but it is a very odd claim especially for something so broad.

Weird hearing that siberian sniper talk perfect english with that accent. The movie was in difficult position being a hollywood film. Either all the actors need to put on a convincing russian accent within that given time period, and its improbable everyone could, ruining the experience if it was bad. OR...speak perfect english, and make it seem jarring given that its set in russia. Its even stranger since everyone speaks in a strange english accent... Good film overall though, if they cut the love triangle crap it wouldve been even better since it was kinda schlocky

Yeah. It's better if everyone spoke English with an American or British accent (as little accent as possible). That way it's clear that we know the characters are *supposed* to be speaking Russian, but we are just hearing English out of cinematic license. It's as though it's dubbed in English, without being dubbed. It would be more strange if they speak English with a Russian accent. Because it leads to the question, "why are they speaking English in the first place?"

There is a heirarchy of accents in Hollywood and the UK because of the market. From good-guy to bad-guy the accents are American, British, German, Russian. Since this is a UK film the good-guys have to have British accents. The good-guys are also Russian but Russian accents are always reserved for bad guys like in all James Bond movies. Note that the bad guys in this movie are Germans and most of them retain German accents except Konig. He's a mix of being a bad guy but he's also in a position of being the second protagonist. So he neither gets the German accent nor the British accent and of course, not a Russian accent.

And then there's Genghis Khan were all the Asians are from Europe, except Genghis Khan who was from Egypt.
