Endwalker Reactions || The Mothercrystal || Ugly Crying, USA - FFXIV

Ойындар

I can't believe Mom went and made me cry as hard as she did, but she done DID. I'd love to hear about your experience as well!
***ALSO: I want to point out that because I was pretty distraught during this entire... experience, I did not process and/or comprehend a lot of what Venat told me. This will make more sense in a video to come. :')***

    I didn't want her to die. At this point I was in a discord call with friend, playing with them while trying to lead six other randos, with all of us doing this for the first time. I teared up having to see her die. The only words my friend could say were, "What have we done?"

    I remember playing it on release, and watching all the big time XIV streamers do it. Basically everyone cracked at calling her Venat one last time, her tearing up from it, and calling us her little pogchamps as she died. Sfia had to cut his camera off and get up for a minute afterwards.

    @@elibbabats If you/re still keen on catching others progress through Endwalker, the boys over at Grinding Gear ( www.youtube.com/@Amovetv ) just recently got to Elpis. And while the holidays and other RL things have halted their journey for the moment, it could also give you some time to watch their older vids to catch up on their reactions, thoughts on various events, and occasionally humorous speculations about what might come next. Garrett in particular has been pretty sus about Hydaelyn, so it'll be interesting to see his response to this part when they do get there probably sometime in January.

    Hydaelyn started out in the story as a benevolent benefactor for us to help the world, and we depended on her blessing to keep us safe, it made us the Warrior of Light. all these years we took it for granted and she faded into the background while the bigger issues with nations and war cropped up, then we ventured to the first to stop a rejoining and learned about how she was a primal just as Zodiark was. We learned about who the Ascians were and what it meant for Emet-Selchs true goal. They masterfully tricked into hating him and then forgiving him, though which is the real trick I am still unsure of. Then Endwalker shows us not only was Hydaelyn not just sitting around doing nothing, she was preparing for this the entire time. She has lived countless millennia, all to make it here. She was our friend, before she was our savior and loving mother figure. She knew all about us, and waited so long to see us again. God it wrenches my heart apart, its written so well. I look forward to seeing how well you handled ultima thule, since I cant go there without crying, I am sure you fared no better.

    @@elibbabats Yeah, exactly. Back in Elpis, Emet just sort of thought that her refusing to return to the star was a weird Azem thing. But she explains that she loves the people of the world so much that she can't allow herself to die until she knows we will all be okay without her help. And then, at this moment, when all of her plans have come to fruition and she knows she can entrust the fate of everything to you, she knows her time has finally come. After thousands of years of guiding the fate of the world to this moment, all by herself, her work is finally done. She deserves her rest...

    Jebaited us hard they did. Although since the last 2 expansions are dealing with pretty heavy existential and ethical themes. You absolutely can make a case that Venat did a pretty bad thing genociding… sorry, sundering her people. And she did so because of her own self-righteous beliefs. Unlike Emet who was trying to save his people… what I’m saying is Emet’s genocides were more altruistic in nature than that of Venat. I’ve had plenty of debates on these topics. It’s pretty fun.

  • @crazy13alex

    @crazy13alex

    10 ай бұрын

    @@pumpkingamebox Altruistic to his people, not to the lives newly born. By the end of Elpis, it was clear that Emet-Selch was never getting that world back even without Hydaelyn's meddling. At least Venat was altruistic to life on Etheirys as a whole, no matter what form it took. While Emet-Selch couldn't or didn't care to even acknowledge his hypocrisy, Venat owned up to her mistakes. Although he did acknowledge at the end, that he wouldn't have gotten as far as Ultima Thule even with Zodiark and Etheirys whole.

  • @pumpkingamebox

    @pumpkingamebox

    10 ай бұрын

    @@crazy13alex Is being more altruistic to your people a bad thing? Every (good) politician MUST look out for his people more. And if another country suffers for the happiness of your people, that’s only wrong from the sufferers point of view. We also don’t know if Emet would have truly failed in returning back his world. They did already come up with mass genocide of lesser life before the sundering. We’re doing the same irl with our entire food sector. Sure, going to the edge of the universe could have been hard, and impossible if Venat wouldn’t disclose the mark she left on Metion. But they could have Zodiark continue protecting them without any more sacrifices. As he has done being imprisoned for millennia after the sundering. So I completely disagree with you on what could and could not have been done if Venat didn’t interfere. Didn’t acknowledge his hypocrisy? Lmao! You played through ShB right? He absolutely knew his hypocrisy, that’s why he was in such deep denial about it. Making excuses that we are such lesser life forms that we aren’t even alive, and so on. But even if he did fully acknowledge it, would that have stopped him from killing us to return his people? I think not. Leaders and soldiers of different nations can be sympathetic to each other despite going to war. To Emet, his old friends were more important to him than this low level cancer Hydelyn has spread. To WoL the scions and the new life was more important than Emet’s boomers. And so we have this ethically fair clash at the end of ShB. Oh, and he could completely return people. Since all 3 unsundered were trying so hard to bring back Zodiark, it stands to reason they had a way of extracting souls from Zodiark to be among the living once more. Therefore half of all Asians ever was essentially in a coma inside Zodiark. WoL defeating the 3 unsundered in that way was technically genocide, since were dooming the Ascians to be forever stuck inside Zodiark. Venat owned up to her mistakes? She owned up to the fact that she ended a civilization against its own will? I don’t remember that sentiment. She was honestly a weirdly written character. They meant for her to be super likable, to the point that the player should just accept her actions that followed. But that instead would be hypocritical of us and WoL as a character. It feels more like the writers wrote themselves into a corner in ShB and had to bend many rules in EW to get out of it and finish the story, come hell or high water. I discovered a lot of video essays on the subject of her actions and the writing. I’m interested in what they might say, and maybe you’d be interested too. Though, disclaimer, they naturally skew more to my opinion. Since it’s controversial to think of Venat being in the wrong.

    Let me drop some extra context using info from Shadowbringers for Hydaelyns final words, about the "words of the crystals original bearer." We know from Hythlo's shade in Amourot that the crystal was made in secret, after Azem defected. That's why it only contains 1 spell that embodies their spirit, and no memories. So the words could only come from the one who created crystal, and that was more than likely Emet. It makes the line hit a little harder for me.

    That one dialogue option is the only time in the game where I'll ever say there's really only one right option to pick. Imagine consigning yourself to a dozen millennia of loneliness and pain, forced to watch the people you love go through strife and misery that you know that you have subjected them to, all because you cannot let go and rest until you are *sure* that they have found their way. Time and time again, you put your faith in adventurers and now and again a reflection of Azem is among them and you ask yourself if *this* is the one you made a promise to all those long years ago, only for them to simply pass by or fail. Then finally--*finally*--one of them shows up and proves themselves to possess the power to move forward. Then they call you not by your divine title, but by your name and they tell you that it's okay; that they'll find their way. And you believe them. After uncountable lifetimes of solitude and solemn duty, you can finally just rest. Emet also went through something similar, though a bit different. You know the walk at the end of Ultima Thule? Where you're so tired but you keep moving forwards out of duty and necessity anyways, both haunted and encouraged in equal measure by voices of the past--voices from people that you have both failed to save or that you are trying to save. Now imagine doing that for more than ten thousand years and you've got what Emet went through. The mere idea of such a thing horrifies me. And yet at the end of it all, he can rest easy. Because of you.

    Little note: The Cover art for Final Fantasy is all done by Yoshitaka Amano. Amano is known also for drawing for such things as Vampire Hunter D and Angels Egg, and you can see the influence of his works in the characters in FFXIV for both Hydaelyn and the fight against Elidibus when he transforms into the 'Warrior of Light.' I'd suggest taking a look at the VaatiVidya video on youtube titled "Dark Souls 3 Lore ► Angel's Egg & Filianore" for not only an interesting video in itself, but also to get a glimpse of the anime and how Amano's artwork looks. You'll definitely see the similarity. Likewise, I would suggest the Vampire Hunter D movie from 1985. It's a personal favorite from my childhood.
