It was the most awesome season finale ever!

Katherine Heigl said in one of the interviews that they shot this scene with Denny on the other side of the elevator. Izzie was about to briefly meet Denny after life. That’s the original script. But Shonda thought it will be more heart wrenching if it is George on the other side. They did a shoot with George separately. And boy Shonda was right! When the elevator opened and revealed O’Malley in his army uniform, everyone got goosebumps. We’re all crying. It was Grey’s best finale IMHO second was Denny’s death finale. Good old GA days.

Denny's death was really sad, but I think Izzie having that elevator scene with George is much more dramatic & heartbreaking (which represents that George died), because after all, they were bestfriends, (the sweetest & nicest among them 5 😂😢) they are literally Grey's Anatomy's veterans making this episode super emotional. We could've seen how Izzie & George grew as a surgeon together with Meredith, Alex & Cristina. 😢 I miss the old times of Grey's Anatomy.

I love how when Meredith tells them "John Doe is George" they all glance at Callie

They foreshadowed this from the first episode of season 5 when Izzie walks out of the elevator and saw Denny. She associates that elevator with death and when it opened and it was George, she smiled at first but then figured out that this wasn't a good thing

I think her expression changed due to the fact that she was initially joyful to see her friend in the afterlife but then was still being pulled back to life and she felt that. George realized it too as is evident in his similar change in expression.. he knew then it wasn't her time yet but that it was his.

You guys do NOT want to know how much I was SCREAMING when I heard Mer said 007....it was awful, my throat still hurts from last night! HOW could they do this to to George, Im heartbroken, he can't leave the show like this, its too much!

I feel like this was definitely one of the most intense season finales, because this created all the chaos.

Is it just me or is it wierd how they don't relly try 100% to save 'John dos' life until the realise it was George then they ran to save him! They wouldn't have done that if they didn't realise it was George and he could still b alive if they had tried 100% from the beginning he came into the hospital or even in the ambulance just saying

They were doing every thing they could do , his body had already had so much trauma from the accident and first surgery they had to give him a rest , they were on the way to surgery with him when he told mer who he was

Watching this later, after Jo/Alex and as much as I disagree with how they handled, this scene makes it make sense to me. When Mer told Nathan she was mad at him because he got a second chance at reuniting with the love of his life while she can't, I think back to this scene. Alex had the chance to reunite, years later and I can see how he chose it. Izzy and Alex got both horrid endings, but honestly this scene makes it make sense to me.

even though I knew about george's nickname(007) ... I still didnt see that coming!! I thought he meant that the girl was lying and that would be the reason for him to write 007... but then Meredith starts to freak out! I think we were paying attentio to izzie... and when it happen to george we were like WTF???????? BTW...GREAT SEASON FINALE

When I first saw this episode, I was picturing where everyone gathers up to pour their hearts and concerns to O'Malley. while he makes a speech to his decision to join the army and make a beautiful exit from the hospital. But when Meredith announced John Doe was GEORGE, it felt like a big glass broken down and shattered into pieces 😢

among other amazing things about this ending let’s take a moment to recognize this is the best voice over to end an episode in the entire series

OMG this is a big cliffhanger between George and Izzie one of them is going to die Grey's Anatomy will never be the same without either one.

When izzie saw George in his uniform, she knew something wasn’t right. She knew he would get killed in the army and thats why she chose to live (stay in the elevator) instead of going with George. If she saw Denny there instead of George, she would have gone with him and joined him in the after life.

This is one of the greatest episodes of any tv show I’ve ever watched. It’s up there with some of my favourite breaking bad episodes. Set up the next seasons madness perfectly. Rip 007.

THIS SONG!!!!! This EPISODE!!! This SHOWWWWWWW!!! Still freaking hearbreaking!!!

I had heard the spoilers and knew it was coming and this still caught me off guard!!! I feel the same way every time I watch this now!

you know what sucks? izzie you expected to die. she had the cancer you knew something like this was coming. with george it was one of those gut wrenching moments, i was literally shaking the entire episode because of the george thing. you could tell it was him from his eyes when he opened them. its just to heartbreaking =[ i think izz will live and george is dead.

Wow, can’t imagine how it must have felt to have to wait for the next season to know who lived and who died! That must have been torture.

it was horrible...my heart stopped..my friend and i start to cry and yell "George it's george damn!God!George!!!"and...wow...great and..horrible..and then them staring at each other...Izzy has visions of dead people..he's dying...wow...

I watch this every few months and cry.

It’s weirdly therapeutic and traumatic at the same time

I think the entire movement of his finger at :0:25 IS him shaking the pulse monitor off SO AS he can spell on her palm.

I recall being like 12 when this first aired and it was my mums show. She was yelling at the TV "DIE IZZY DIE" because he was her favourite.

I really wish try didn't KILL George! I mean I get that TR would still leave the show it's just the fact that the character that we love so much is dead.... It would be easier the grief the loss if he didn't die.

He didn't have to die. He could've joined the military like he planned... It would've been so easy. He was already on the verge of leaving. Killing him just for the shock value is annoying.

that is why george wasn't really in season 5. there were episodes that he wasnt even shown. maybe it's for us to get used to without him?

The actor wanted to leave the show, due to some creative differences with Shonda. They probably changed the storyline so that he didn't have to appear that much in his last season.

This exact episode made me stop watching this series. It's just so painful my heart can't and will never recover.

Spectacular this scene the best of the series, Katherine killed it deserved the award. The series lost its luster when it came out the original actors didn't watch it anymore. I went to season 6.

When Meredith says “It’s George” and everybody run to save him I always think If it wasn’t George they let patient die there?? Because they only move when Meredith screams John Doe is George!

Izzie should have died, not George.

I mean if they let Izzie die, it wouldn’t have killed Alex’s character arc in the latest season 👀
