The slam-into-the-ground dodge is directly lifted from Castlevania Rondo of Blood, where Maria does it. She also uses spirits to fight, such as birds and other animals. She doesn’t fight directly. So yeah, that was probably the main inspiration for the protagonist’s control mechanics

The "dodge" looks more like a "face plant" (think Willie Mays Hayes sliding in the movie Major League) This visually is curiously as warm as it is dark and haunting. Lilly: "I heard you guys talking about me"

I never thought a Metroidvania would beat out Hollow Knight for me but this one blew me away. It had a unique feel with the spirits but many of the Metroidvania mainstays I love. And the music….. is incredible. I was listening to the OST a month after I finished the game. Polished to perfection. Doesn’t get much better than this.

Hollow knights dash was so quick and responsive, a similar game seems a bit off when it’s not the same. Any 2D game where you can’t move your avatar in the air makes it really difficult. Enders lilies isn’t like that it was just an example.

The haunting sort of Japanese choir vibe is really cool. But NEIR’s soundtrack is just one of the best ever made. I quite like ICO’s as well. A really sort of tragic energy.

You beat me to making a video about this, but I'm not nearly far enough to talk about it. I'm glad more word is getting out about the game! Your review highlighted the good parts about the game with some of the rougher parts. I've been hearing some complaints it's too short but outside if that not much else. Great Review!

Thank you! I didn’t think it was too short at all. I can’t say exactly how long it took me since it have a tendency to just open the map and walk away for long periods of time, but it was probably around 20-25 hours to finish and get most of the secrets.

@@Cannotbetamed1 Yeah, definitely not too short. 25 hours is just about right. I’ve gotten pretty bad with the judging on length recently, if it’s not a 60+ hour game it puts me off. I replayed Mass Effect Andromeda recently, I just did the main missions. It only took me about 15 hours. The first time was about 80. It was much more enjoyable this time. A prime example of more isn’t always better.

This game hits the feels

Great review! I agree on all points, especially with the stupid beginning dash; it always made her look like a zombie that was lunging towards prey to eat their brains. I started playing it a few weeks ago, but put it down recently after Nier Automata finally released a PC patch making the damn thing playable. I'll get back to Ender Lilies in a bit, but it's fun so far.

I still didn't find a metroidvania with better music than Ender Lilies. This is absolutely gorgeous

Finished it. Definite classic though I had to mute the music and play something else on the background instead... I'm going to give a big fat 9/10. One of the best games i played recently. I was sad to see the experience come to an end. That's how good it was for me.

Her lil scramble dodge makes sense because she doesn't look combat efficient which in turn makes her learned dash after she gains strength an extra layer to character progression and growth imo. I'm playing Vigilant atm, but this is definitely on my radar.

So now in a different context it feels like less of an "extender" to the game and more like busy work when I come back to the game as an adult. But yeah that's to me and might not apply to you.

@@badwrongfun5541 I haven’t got as much time as I used to, but I normally have a long game going. It seems a bit relative. I went through the mass effect trilogy and it took about 80 hours. It didn’t seem that long. But I’ve put about 80 hours into Persona 5 over 2 years, it seems to of taken an absolute ice age. I’ve pretty much given up. It’s a massive slog. Saying that, I’ve just started Divinity 2. It’s supposed to be over 100 hours. It’s going to be a mission to finish it.

Everything in this review is on point. *But the soundtrack of this game is what stood out for me.*

I have sent this review to my friendship Logan for us to potentially invest our time in with the goal of video game completion
