End of the House of Romanov (2023)
Power has a price. That price must be paid.
The Romanov dynasty had ruled Russia for over three hundred years. Weakened by economic hardship and military losses, the Russian people had lost faith in the leadership of the Tsar's government.
The execution of Tsar Nicholas II and his family was a tragic end to what was once a great dynasty. It is also a brutal reminder of the fragility of power and the dangers of political upheaval.
This is the story of the end of the House of Romanov.

My grandad was fighting in the trenches in Belgium in 1914. He survived being gassed in the trenches and was discharged from the army. I've got his medals. He received the silver rose for advancing under enemy fire.
Louis of Hesse died in 1892, so he did not accompany Alix in 1894
As a husband and father Nicholas was an A but as a ruler he was an F. He never wanted to be Tsar. He didn’t want to rule . He wanted to be a simple family man . Unfortunately for him he thought as Tsar he had the right to do as he wished. His advisors no doubt helped keep his head in the sand about what was going on in his country and by the time he realized the truth it was far too late . He also let his wife have far too much influence in the Rasputin situation and he should have shut that down long before it ended in murder . His entire family paid the price for his indifference and naivety. They were all seen as possible figure heads should there be a movement to put the Romanov’s back in power and so they were all killed
I love history but listening to this narrator is painful 😖
It takes a lot for me to post a bad review, but this had factual errors and didn’t tell the story as true. Too bad because I was really looking forward to this show.
When the first Russian revolution had started, my great grandparents had fled to Germany to start a family. My great grandparents had opened up a successful Jewish bakery in their Jewish neighborhood, which would be seized by the Nazis. My great grandparents had lost their entire family in the holocaust. They had ended up settling in Canada for a fresh start
I just cannot imagine what the Russian Royal family went through.
Ivan the Sixth should have had A longer reign.
Actually, the main Romanov line already ended, Nicholas is from A off branch.
Other than a few errors (skipping their Siberian exile and they were arrested in 1917, etc.), excellent work!
I like your simple language thus making this history accessible to many folks. Thank you.
Queen Victoria hated Alexander III & thought he was crude and undignified. This despite the fact a lot of royalty back in the day did not look so overjoyed to be betrothed to a British heir who potentially carried the dreaded blood disorder. People knew but didn't talk about this Victorian curse (of inbreeding). Nicholas and Alix were 4th cousins (and thus related to one another).
Very interesting documentary 👍
Alexander iii died at Livadia not the Winter Palace
The narrator was not well prepared (which I assume was not her fault). And the quality of her voice doesn't go well with the topic of the documentary.
Louis IV Grand Duke of Hesse died 2 years before Alix and Nicholas wedding
Excellent !!!!!🤗🇬🇧
A very good documentary, so touching at the end.
El padre de la Santa Zarina Alexandra ya había muerto antes de vontraer matrimonio con San Nicolás II Zar de Rusia
Fascinating history
