End of an era: Watch Taj Burrow's last video part with a Billabong sticker.

Спорт

Taj Burrow, perennial Stab favourite, has been with Billabong for more than 20 years.
After classic long-form films like Montaj, Sabotaj, and Fair Bits, this will be his last section with a Billabong sticker on the nose of his board. This is recent footage from his home in Western Australia and a 2019 Indo trip. We'll drop news of his next chapter shortly.
And, how good is a fresh Taj Burrow part!

i dont think this is true. taj was always in the mix and on everyones favourite surfers list, i think along with andy, kelly and probably josh kerr he was the guy that made airs functional and scored well in competition. i think taj will be the first to admit his lack of a world title or 3 is all on him.

best surfer to never win a world title. he wasnt aggressive enough in heats. sorry i mean he didnt want to act like the Brazilians to win. like drop in on each other to win heats etc he just loves surfing and was always good enough to win with just that alone. with our the BS politics afterwards. when he won, he won off pure surfing, not tactics. if he wanted to be a snake, he would have a tittle in his hands now, his to nice :D he was my favorite surfer when i was 10. im now 31 and he still is up there with the best. keep the clips coming taj miss seeing you surf!

I don't think it is about dropping in on people, but he just never had the killer instinct and drive of say a Mick Fanning, Kelly or AI. Taj also struggled a bit in bigger surf, probably because of his size, more suited to destroying smaller surf.

If Sam Mcintosh is able is reading this by some long shot. Can you put an end to the 'progressive' and 'woke' writings that have seeped into Stabs articles and gradually increased to the point where it's on par with Vice and The Inertia. Compared to the loose material that was written at Stab ten years ago the quality has shot so far downhill. If you'd like to see how unpopular your articles have become look at the levels of engagement. Comments seem to range from 5 to 30 on average with some few articles cracking the 100 mark here and there. By comparison Beach Grit articles are regularly getting hundreds of comments. Also in regards to comments what's up with deleting so many comments that don't fit with your new agenda? Anyway. Your new direction is bad for business. Only a minority of your readers appreciate it. Rediscover your roots. That's where you had your success. Well that and the Surfstich sell off and buy back at a cheaper price. Well played Sir.

Beachgrit comments are no way reflective of the quality or journalistic writing style that appear with each written piece. The articles are nearly always provocative which stimulates the torrent of engagement in the comment section. Curious, have you even read the comments? It is clear that alot of people don't even bother reading the piece, their only agenda is to engage in witty commentary. Each to their own, but be wary of assuming commentary is the single barometer of reader engagement. How do you think journalism has survived for the time it has, long before comment sections were around? Lastly, there really is no comparing the two sites (yes they cover surfing but that is the only similarity they share).

@@bh2861 Yes. The two sites are quite different. I have read comments and articles on both sites. You're correct commentary is not the only barometer of reader engagement but it is an indicator non the less. My main point is people that enjoy 'woke' and progressive writing on surfing websites are a minority. Stabs recent articles are taking on a distinct political bent. From a business perspective it's a poor direction to take.
