    Hi Seamus, great to meet you ! A lot of us share experience from our working lives and most of us have to work around problems because we don't have either the machinery or equipment do do the job in a conventional method. Either way, by sharing ideas we all learn and create new solutions to existing problems. Out if the box thinking is great!! Cheers Neil

    Neil, your mill has a completely different control system to the one I removed from mine. Warco must have updated it. If you are in a hurry, the company that we discussed for VFD packages probably won't be able to meet your deadline. It took three months for mine to arrive. Great work on the cutter grinder, I wonder if your Colchester could be reground to restore accuracy? It's a lovely old machine. Best wishes, Dean.

    Yes mine has stop/start and direction change. I did look to warco for a switch and noticed they are not compatible. The colchester is 80 this year and theres 0.6mm of lift or play in the headstock bearing which is the biggest problem and parts are not available. As long as I'm careful it will do most things except parting off. The old girl doesn't like that at all 😁😁

    JIggy-jiggy vs whirl-whiry! Sorry about the contactor. I had the switch on my woodworking tablesaw fail due to sawdust ingress and it failed constantly on--that was a bit scary. I used modeling clay to seal up the switch enclosure and it has been better.

    @Nell's Mechanical Man Cave Hi Neil, thank you for sharing this idea with us! It looks like a well crafted and ingenious solution to making a simple DIY end mill sharpener. I'll probably end up making one of these before long for my own projects! Also, your subtle humor and jokes are truly on point, and the visual gag of picking up each piece as you mentioned it was hilarious! Did you learn that metal cutting technique from This Old Tony? I'm sure it took many years of careful study from a true master of the machining arts to perfect such a skill! 🤣 Anyway, thank you again for sharing, and your videos keep inspiring my inner desire to make things, and bring me great joy seeing your work. Your contributions are wonderful, and you do great work, so don't be too hard on yourself. 😉👍

    Hi Christopher!!!! The sharpener isnt my idea, but I love its simplicity and added my modifications too it. My humour 😊, I've struggled to be serious about anything in my entire life. If you can't laugh or smile I don't think you are living, you are just existing. The cutting gag was an error. I'm no way close to Tony, he is amazing. I simply forgot to video the marked out plate before cutting it, but it turned out good and I thought it was funny, so it got edited in. I'm not a machinist Christopher. I just have enough common sense to work out how to use these machines. This is why I don't show machining. I'm a trouble shooter, or was one in heavy industry. I think out of the box. I love finding solutions to problems and simplifying daily tasks to make life easier. Some say I'm clever,,,, I say I come up with ideas to make life easier because im naturally lazy🤣🤣🤣 Have a great weekend, so glad you came by, viewed and commented. Take care, Neil 👍

    LOL Buddy you and I would get along fine in a shop. The opposition team (parts and machines) need to be oft negotiated with using language reserved for scholars of getting things done. No room for committee consensus or public survey. My tools can smell the scrap yard on me. Thus they know I have the ultimate solution near at hand - if they should opt for unruly shenanigans LOL. Like what you thinking on the table. Add in your 3D printing skills and print some guide plates to get some options. Happy to model something if you can't get there with your drawing program. Dang bad luck on the mill. My simple understanding is that contactors are like a fancy multipoint relay right? Just for my education. I bypassed all of that on my Harrison and my horizontal Rockwell Mill. The Rockwell has an easy 30lbs of antique control box hanging on for mass if nothing else. Hang in there. All the best Dan

    Joe is a top chap. Very useful. On the issue of the lathe, what is up with it? Have you adjusted all the gibs? On the issue of a contactor, what exactly is that one for? Is it the main power?

  • @NellsMechanicalManCave

    @NellsMechanicalManCave

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Lathe is 80 years old Ben. It has plain bearings on the Spindle which has 0.6mm of lift on them. Basically, it's had a hard life and you can't work it to its potential. That's why I can't part off because of chatter. Gibbs are OK but I can't tighten them too much due to wear, things lock up. The contactor,,,, is the main on off and also acts as a switch over relay for direction.

    Hi, Think I went for a 300 grit. I did a Google search and read a thread in practical machinist that said over 150 and below 500. Over 500 requires water cooling and 1200 gives a mirror finish. Cheers Neil

    Oh,,,,, I thought you were a bricklayer 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Only joking Olly !! I knew what you were in the first minute of the first video I watched of you. I ran the maintenance in a multimillion pound facility but I'm mechanically oriented and I'd come up with an idea for a machine designed and throw the concept to the electrical guru (John) who would call me a tosser because it involved a PLC and it then took over his life until complete. I had to make large amounts of tea for him though as he said it helped him think 😊 I'll WhatsApp you back or text as I'm thinking of going VFR after I got let down by that company. Last one I programmed was in 2001 and it was a Siemens 250kw,,,, things have changed 😳

    666! Is that worse than your 13th ? Better the devil you know mate 😇😇😇 1.1kw is the minimum on the mill but thanks for the offer. 1.5kw motor with 2.2kw VFD is what I'm thinking at the moment. That way I'm a good bit over 1:1 on the more fragile bit. I'll get the mill back running with the standard contactor then consult my personal electrical engineer 😘😘 with options. It's great having mates who can guide mechanical loons like me in the right direction. Saves the NHS shit loads on burns dressings ! Cheers Neil 😁😁😁
