The song “En mi viejo San Juan” is performed by the Martina-trio consisting of Juliana Martina (mezzo-soprano), Jorge Martina (tenor) and Jaime Martina (piano).
The recording took place during a concert on 24 September 2023 in the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam and was organized by the Palm Music Foundation (www.palmmusicfoundation.com).
Noel Estrada Suárez (Puerto Rico, 1918-1979) was not only a well-known lieder singer, but also a beloved composer of boleros. Of the more than 600 songs composed by Noel Estrada Estrada, his bolero En mi viejo San Juan, which he composed in 1943, is by far his most beloved composition. This song was later also released in English, German and French. En mi viejo San Juan is a nostalgic tribute to the old historic center of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. In this older part of San Juan, located on the azure blue Caribbean Sea, young and old still gather every weekend to sing romantic songs together at sunset.
