EmuWing Installed on a Toyota Landcruiser 200 series | WAS IT A MISTAKE? Gullwing side access panel

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Australian EmuWing… It has mixed reviews and this video is no different, but have I regretted it…?
Today I talk about the EmuWing side access panel fitted to my 2014 Toyota Landcruiser 200 series.
*not sponsored*
There are soo many reviews, opinions and conflicting reports regarding this product but I decided to bite the bullet and give one a go for myself. As discussed in today’s episode this hasn’t been without criticism, however there are definitely some great benefits from a system like this as well.
Today we talk about:
00:00 - Introduction
02:10 - Benefits
03:35 - Installation Issues
06:04 - Product Criticisms
08:21 - Summary & thoughts
10:12 - Would I do it again?
11:10 - Conclusion
This review is conducted purely to inform and educate those who may be interested in purchasing this product. No product/modification or accessory is without compromise and this is another example of that.
I hope you enjoyed today’s episode and let us know if it helped you out.

Great Video Nath!!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I did contact an overseas company but they did not make the gullwing for the LC200. I just can't go past how permanent this mods is and those hinges and the amount of space they need. The price of the product only is only half of the story that has to be compared against the quality of the built of the product. Furthermore could you please let us know your thoughts on using the access to the car while actually 4wding. I can see @ 1:42 that you still need to lean against the car to grab your item but that was a spotless car. It could be a bit different when the misses need to grab something from a totally mud up car 😉. Cheers

Thanks mate. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before another company produces a similar styled product with better execution that will dominate the market. It terms of accessibility, yes its a stretch, but keep in mind I'm running a 2" lift with 34" tyres, so the vehicle is high. Further the item I was grabbing was sitting within the fridge slide of the vehicle (so quite low down). I have a specific project being installed in this area which will change the way I access gear in this area. That video will be coming in the next few weeks... hopefully. Cheers.

Nathan, I’m Pedantic with my gear so I feel your pain. I think I know what you are going to do with your mod behind this wing so focus on that as it will be so tidy & very functional. As far as vehicle security goes, good crooks can get into any car in second (emu wing or not) & useless crooks take even less time with a rock. I think your mod behind the wing will really deal with the security aspect. Maybe it’s worth the time & effort to clean up some of the finishing aspects of that installation, I don’t know, Im sure you’ll work it out. It’s good to see someone out there providing honest reviews 👍

@@XploringOz Listen Brother, It’s the bad things that pop up from time to time that make us enjoy the good things even more. Whenever that little blemish catches your eye turn your head the other way & look at ur beautiful family. Besides which at the end of the day you really have an awesome truck & many people will never own something that great. You’re going to keep modding stuff to suit yourself & all that will far outweigh one little stuff up. Next challenge will be getting the new van & going right through that over a few shakedown trips to make sure everything is as it should be. Sadly, I hate to say this but the Caravan industry in Australia has a squillion & one shonky operators. Make sure you document EVERYTHING when it comes to the van as some of the people in that field will make the emu fitter look like a master tradesman 🤣. These days Consumers really need to be on their toes at every turn. Remember, photograph EVERYTHING & put Every communication with the Van people in writing. Familiarise yourself with the consumer laws in your state. Don’t leave anything to chance as you will find with many of these operators do battle with consumers every day & know all the tricks, meanwhile consumers only do this a few times in each life. Anyway, I will jump off my soap box now, but rest assured we will all get our chance to deal with these SHONKS at one point or another. 😉

I know this was done over 2 years ago, and I had mine installed 'professionally' which ended up with an insurance job to fix the installation. I will say I love the wings, and recently changed my seals to a Q Seal on the body and I find it better than the two part seal they supplied then. My question to you is... did you reconnect the DAB antenna at the rear, or connect it to the back of the head unit? Would love to know as hard finding any useful information. I find the EmuWing product team very lacking in there post-install product knowledge and 100% agree with your review. Hard to find a good installer and the product could be improved, especially with the glass.

  • @travishenley9584
    @travishenley95842 жыл бұрын

I agree, had all the same issues except the black silicon on mine was done well. Complete alignment was poorly done and the seals were bugged within a couple of weeks. Mine have been on not quite 2 years, powder coat has come off the black exterior mount plugs and handles are a mission to open as should at least be a t bar style. Seals are rubbish and need addressing. One thine to note an external Ariel is required as ours is in the rear glass. So for me also am on the fence with my emu wings

G'Day Terry Nice to see you around the Tube. You did perform a very good installation on your car but where can you find a business that can spend the same amount of time, care and attention to details like you did? Most "installers" believe that they win your business purely based on the price then they try to perform the job in the less amount of time possible in order to increase the deal profit. As a business owner I always find easier to justify an expensive good job rather than a cheap rubbish job but unfortunately the first impression is what's matter and consumers see the price before the job 🤷‍♂️. I have had a pair of Emu Wings (auto glass) on the center windows of my Troopy for about 4 years now and although fitment was pretty good (did it myself), the seals and locks have been troublesome. I have also had all the powder coating peel off the pan head exterior bolts which is disappointing given the cost. I fully agree that, as a company, they probably need to make some updates to stay competitive in today's constantly expanding vehicle accessories market.

Glad to hear your experience has been more positive. It sure can be disappointing when a product doesn't live up to its expectations when you spend so much money on it. No doubt another company will emerge with new products soon, I just hope that EmuWing are ready for this... Cheers, Nathan.

Sorry to see the result on the 200 Nate, but have to agree with the other 100 owners and say that a home install worked out well for me and that the functionality is totally worth it. The 'Wings' are a bit wider than on the 200 so the side access is really worth it, I spent the extra $ for the Toughened Glass wings, then got them tinted to match all the rest of the car, they look great, function to purpose and I wouldn't be without them. Most aftermarket vehicle modifications are a compromise and so long as you do your homework and look at the end results before you buy, you can usually live with that result. (Unless like in your case, the installer is totally dodgy) Still as always, you have given a detailed and objective review for the LC 200 owners, who are now aware of the downsides for their model of vehicle. Cheers

For sure, I agree with you there mate. I also agree the 100 series users are definitely getting the most out of their systems with their much wider rear windows. I'm glad to hear that the install and functionality has worked out well for your vehicle. I was willing to put up with the compromise on the slightly inferior product quality, however the poor install was not something I was happy with nor expecting. Cheers mate.
