It can be about anything like that. Addiction, abusive relationships, etc. Personally, I was in an deadend mentally abusive friendship where she strung me along for years, finally had enough a couple of years ago now and now I listen to this song and know the signs better.

Wow exactly! I'm blood-bound to a narcissist that feeds on The Praise Of Being a Rescuer. The bitch (can't call someone like this a mother) made me her victim my whole life, and this song was going though my head while I had to walk myself (knees, back & ribs) to ruins to get to a rescue shelter after she threw me on the freezing street the day when I was wrongfully released from hospital because of an emergency admittance (a slipping vertebrae halfway down my ribs made breathing virtually impossible and fucked with my organs, shutting at least the gallbladder down completely for weeks before already and not even opioids worked against THE AGONY). Goddamn hospital didn't even x-ray my back, the ONLY thing they did was THREE BLOOD TESTS (liver, kidneys & infection)! And then they claim that health care is VERY good in this country... NOT FOR SOMEONE WITH EDS in the Netherlands! (EDS is Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). Damned backwards country doctors don't know shit about EDS or even about listening to patients needs & refused me painkillers (that would work) or even oxygen to reduce the agony of trying to breathe, let alone my requests for x-rays or even just FEELING MY BACK as the slipped vertebrae was clearly sticking out. Btw, health insurance wasn't the problem as I'm chronically ill, mobility scooter or completely bed bound and it's mandatory anyway. I didn't even have my crutches! Suing isn't done in NL like the US; the "professionals" are always in the right.

Be greatful for that, some people, including me can only be jealous of someone who can show a real smile, real with the meaning of reflecting your inner happiness. Doesn't mean I'm not nice to people who surround me, no, in contrary, I motivate people to fight their demons and I do smile a lot, just to fake that I'm good, so nobody has to worry about. I know I should value the things I possess, but when someone is missing in your life, you wish you could give everything you have away in order to get this something/someone in return. I'd even gave away 50 years of my life and my soul, to hell with it, but you can't buy happiness, so be fucking glad! p.s. sry if it sounded rude.

Surely there'll be dark times in your life when your hands will be tied and you have to take the punches raining straight to your face and you'll suffocate in your own blood. On those days you just have to take a deep breath and be strong enough to hold in the pain, waiting till the rain is over and you finally can destroy the ties, break free and let the sun wash away the darkness that has imprisoned your soul.

best song for training... everytime when I am exhausted and can't go on and hear these words "I am stronger" in this song, I think of myself that I can do it better and I do. This song is so motivating, even if the lyrics are about breaking up and to stay strong by that, I just cut that part in my mind and think that the song is about being stronger, than you think you are. I am not english so I can easily remove the text in my mind by ignoring it xD damn i have a crazy mind, don't blame me :D

Jon Hanson it is really sad isn't it, I heard the "Through Fire" version and it sounds almost like a live version. I liked the demo version of it, than they were called "Emphatic". Taking a song from an old album from a former band name doesn't make it a new song and let the people forget it. I would understand if it'd be the other way round, if the demo version would sound like a live song and the new song like a studio version.

The band changed their name and is now called "Through Fire"! I just wanted to inform this in the comments if anyone is interested in hearing more from them. They just came out with a new album in 2016 :D
