    Fellow emperor keeper here! You have a pretty bad reaction to their sting. At least compared to me. Love these little guys.

    I am sensitive to bug bites/stings in general. Even when bit by mosquitos, I swell up a lot. To be honest, these guys cause me less pain than mosquitos do 😅

    @@ItsAaronRose Makes sense! I've been stung a couple times by them. Their venom bothers me for around 3 minutes. The physical hole that their stinger creates is the worst part for me.

    @@UrbanFury12 yeah, agree with you. Its the initial pain of being stung that hurts the most, but drops off very quickly. Definetly very misunderstood animals.

    @@ItsAaronRose Yeah they're nice little creatures. I got probably close to 20 more on the way. Hopefully I'll get them in the spring time. In my free time I build things for them. Working on what I call the tunnel project now.

    @@UrbanFury12 lol, thats awesome. I have about 30 now, and as you obviously know, it takes awhile for breeding, but Im keeping them all until I have a massivr population of a few hundred - even if it takes 10 years. I want to have a few massive colonies in some huge 100 gallon tanks.

    How often do you change the earth material in the cage

  • @ItsAaronRose

    @ItsAaronRose

    Does not need to be done frequently. I do it every few months when theyre still young and molting frequently, but not really necessary to do it that often. When fully matured, a couple times a year is fine.

    If heat lamp compulsory?

  • @ItsAaronRose

    @ItsAaronRose

    10 ай бұрын

    No, what is important is a constant source of heat. There are a number of ways to provide this. If you live somewhere, which is always hot, it may not even be necessary to provide any additonal heating.

    A heat mat on a thermostat is recommended if you live in a cooler area or if it's winter. The lowest temp I heard was 70 but I'd keep it at around 74 80

    Doesn’t need a hot and cool side like snakes or just a constant temp?

  • @ItsAaronRose

    @ItsAaronRose

    6 ай бұрын

    Ideally, yes you should have a heat gradient, but they like it warm, so even on the cooler side, it should still be so. Around 80-100. Keeping it warm for them is more important than keeping it cool. Humidity is also very important.

    How exactly do you keep a bunch of living insects to feed the scorpion? Do they require food as well to keep them alive before you feed them to the scorpion?

  • @ItsAaronRose

    @ItsAaronRose

    3 ай бұрын

    Cockroaches are the easiest feeder to breed and keep alive for that purpose. Theyre illegal in some place though. Where I live, and in most places pet shops sell insects for this purpose, but if you live somewhere rural they might be more difficult to find. If that were the case for me, and I absolutely had to, Id just catch them outside. Generally this is not something you want to do, because captive bred animals can get sick or catch parasites this way, but I suppose its better than allowing them to die of hunger. This is always going to be specific to where you live. Where are you from?

    @@ItsAaronRose I live in New Hampshire, and any pet store is like a half hour away at least. TBH it's probably not a good idea to get a scorpion then.

    @@brokensilence3268 guess it depends on how badly you want one. I travel to pet shops that distance every week, but I have a lot more than one animal to feed. Everything is a commitment. Something to consider though is that scorpions dont really need to eat often. I feed mine once per week, but in reality theyre fine going longer.

    The purpose of my heating mats is not to provide an abundance of heat, it is to keep them at a consistently warm temperature. These are low powered mats, and where I live it is cold for the majority of the year which makes it necessary. Assuming someone is actually monitoring their temperature and keeping it at the level I specified, it isnt going to cook their scorpion. People need to be aware of the fact that individul environments will vary, and adjust their method accordingly. I have quite a few of these at this moment, and have been keeping them for 25 years without ever having one die on account of using a heating mat. The information presented here is from personal experience, and not relaying things I have gathered from forums.

    Idk I put I a small heat mat due to my temps getting cold way beyond cold and the scorpion dogs and likes to sleep over the small heat mat.
