Using torpedo tech before it was cool! Penguins are badass.

penguins are the greatest torpedo
The bubbles come from air being trapped in their feathers. They simply open the feathers to release the air, and it helps to make them faster, by allowing them to move through a good deal of air (from the bubbles), and objects move faster through air than through water.

How does the air end up in their feathers?
@brentlionakaboldchamp
2 жыл бұрын
@@luudest From when they are above the water, and when they fluff and ruffle their feathers, air gets trapped inside.
@luudest

@@brentlionakaboldchamp thanks. so they first have to surface and dive down before they can reach such speeds and jump out of the water?
@brentlionakaboldchamp
2 жыл бұрын
@@luudest Not really, because some air is always available to use that way, since they spend a lot of time out of water, anyways, before they ever go down. The bubbles help, but doesnt make a huge difference, also.
0:43 Extremely beautiful view !
The penguin at 0:45 changed his direction suddenly as if he is playing pinball in real life but it water...😆😁 Also loved the sound of the penguin in the end as if saying "Thanks"...😄😁

Maasyaa' Alloh, laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah, bi idznillah.. Amazing, beautiful.. Thanks nat geo!!! 😍
You should read the article in the magazine. Anyway and to cut it short, when they're in open sea they go to the surface and make their feathers "fluffy" so the air gets trapped under them. Then, they dive towards the ice sheet covering the coast and locate the holes in the ice from behind. At that point, they "contract" or "unfluffy" their feathers, what presses the air out of them in small bubbles. That seems to work as a lubrifiant in the water, so they can reach very high speeds.

Amazing, this is why biomimicry sciences are vital learning tools to help planet Earth survive another 4.543 billion years
Love how they suddenly go from waddling ice chicken to a tuxedo torpedo
extraordinary...absolutely amazing
The bubbles are a result of the speed. When velocity exceeds the natural rate at which water can restitute, a void is created which in turn turns to bubbles.
What a cute kid!
Majestic animals!

It's awesome that they knew the humans were not a threat.

Really nice! Amazing!!!
1:34 „they create a tunnel of around themselves“ -> where does the air under water comes from?
I still don’t understand how they’re so fast.
When the wind blows i kinda like feel it in my headphones :)
Amazing footage.
It blows my mind that these things can dive over 500 meters.
This is amazing!
The first one though... The sound of him faceplanting onto the ice was brutal. I mean did he just misjudge it? Because he was literally the only one who entered the water like that.
How do you describe the cry of a penguin? I can't think of anything to make a comparison. Awesome video - wish I could see that personally.
this is so amazing .
1:57 That had to hurt!! Awesome vid!

The penguin 🐧 is so cute
Yesterday I finally meet the penguins, life changing experience 🥰🥰
I love penguins
incredible cute beautiful
it's interesting the penguins didn't remain afraid, because there aren't many creatures that live down there, especially the size of humans. however, like penguins, humans walk on 2 legs and are very flat looking when standing up, so once they realized humans weren't killing them, they probably thought that we're "one of them".
this is amazing !
awesome, gj nat geo~
Thank you : )
👍This really WAS Cool!
Beautiful 👏🏽
Amazing!!!
what a fascinating video
incredible
Beautiful video.....I love pingüinos, 🥰😍and I love your video.....😍
i love pinguusss
I'd love to see a follow-up with how the penguins (and seals) are dealing with the missing ice shelves now. It would seem they will find a way, but...? Those new cliffs look pretty high. obviously, there are still lower areas, but have those been impacted I wonder?
I agree this is da best video of this channel
I so much want to go scuba diving in Antartica! Thank your for giving me the next best thing.
