The Figuarts one definitely looks better in every way but it ain’t $300 better. If the whole set was like $150 I think it would be worth it but at that price point no way. Great review though!

No it's still just cheap plastic. I'm surprised I dropped $36 for a few of these things and I usually don't go above $26 as a general rule and more so in the $14-$22 bracket

Imo i think both figures are actually pretty damn good for what they're trying to do, although I'd prefer the Black series version, mainly because he can do both sitting and standing poses while being space efficient. Also, cloth goods don't bother me as much. In fact, I think if they're done well, they can really elevate the figure and give it an extra range of movement when needed. There are of course exceptions, like if the cloth robes on the figure are done awkwardly (e.g. the old black series landspeeder luke), then of course, I'd op for the sculpted robes that figuarts does. At the end of the day though, we have preferences, so I won't shoot you down for preferring the figuarts emperor :) Also about the royal guard, The Fwoosh did a review on this set and he shows you how to insert the force pikes riiiight here [kzread.info/dash/bejne/aq53qrSLqsnSe5M.html ]

Cool comparison. Having owned both the Figuarts is superior in every way. It is pricey and definitely should have included a 2nd hood. But if you got it when it came out it was closer to $200 than 3. Still expensive but worth it imo.

I just got the Archive Emperor last week, great figure. I personally wouldn't pay $300 for this set, I'd rather somehow find the Black Series throne, but I'm not holding my breath. Great video. 👍

The other thing that you didn’t mention is how short the royal guards are. They look tiny next to a black series one and even next to the Palps in this set when he isn’t sitting in the throne

Hello Luke another informative video review. The Figure Arts set looks nice but to expensive I am fortunate that I have the Emperor thrown set as a birthday gift. Thinking about getting another Emperor figure for a different head and the lightning hands.

not a huge fan of the emperors design in general, but if i were to get one, I'd definitely get the archive and 3d print a throne lol

I think I prefer the black seires. He looks a little more scrawny and more vindictive in the face. The other looks like the return of the mummy. He also looks alot heather and solid. Great throne. The guards are a little lack luster. I prefer the seated palpatine to the standing. Maybe he would look good being lifted up by Vader. 300 hundred seems a little steep for what you get. Maybe some scenery. The window and the stairs would be a good start. A bit of a catwalk?

I have both throne versions and I do prefer the figuarts. I also have the same criticisms about the set, but I also did not pay $300 for my figuarts set, thankfully. Thanks for the video on this.

Awesome video Luke.Personally i wouldn’t pay $300 for a figure when I could get the Black Series. The S.h looks amazing but not for that much money. To be fair thought it does come with 3 figures

I have both. I was also annoyed that there was no extra hood for sh. I think sh looks so much better so I bought it. Wish it was cheaper though felt like 300.00 was to high. I wish the royal guards were taller they look to short compared to other black series and I can't stand them with any other black series guard. I used one of the extra heads and put it on my black series figure.

there's a tab on the hood so you can plug it into the body

Try heating the extra hood(s) and molding it to the head maybe.

This might me a bit of a long shot, but i noticed you have 2 extra hoods in the video would you be open to selling one? Casting cave doesnt make them anymore and i want to use it to customize the black series version.

Figuarts is definitely the better version, but for someone who is on a budget and still loves collecting I would be happy with the black series as well.

I mean I am still able to find the SHF palps for 200 bucks on local platforms, but for once, I prefer the black series one... It's ep6 palps, he doesn't have much movements aside sitting down or standing up, so the poor articulation for once from black series doesn't matter. Palps face is messed up and half hidden anyways, so either face sculp works. But my main gripe for SHF is the size of royal guard, it's way too small and considering palps is always displayed with the guards, it's an issue. I'd rather have black series palps with proper sized guards...

I will never turn to the plastic, I am a soft goods user like my father before me

As a big Palpatine fan, neither of these do it for me. The black series is meh not even really looking like him while the other one is incredibly expensive(even at its retail price) for what is basically a bunch of statues. I'd love to see Figuarts come out with a Revenge of the Sith variant of him without the throne/guards that is cheaper and with his pre lightning head.

The figuarts set is now at 350$. A bit too steep for me.

I’ve just never liked sculpted plastic for robes like this. Something like prequel-era Jedi where it’s shorter still allows for dynamic poses when using sculpted plastic, but a character like Palpatine, or Vader, or Count Dooku, the parts in question have GOT to be soft goods. Imagine putting the Figuarts Palpatine in a pose where he’s walking. That plastic looks nice if he’s standing up straight, but you won’t see that bend in the way the robe lays if you position him walking. That’s where I gotta disagree. I always have thought there’s a place for both, but it depends on the character and the parts that are soft goods or plastic. A couple more example of why I think Palpatine works better with soft goods robes: 1)Say you want to position him being picked up by Vader at the end of the film. That would look really weird with the sculpted plastic. 2)as stated before, in more dynamic walking poses and such, you get a more natural feel with the soft goods. 3)using the same figure, you can easily pose him sitting on his throne without having to address the issue that sculpted plastic would ever bring. As I said before, sculpted plastic for “cloth” parts of a figure definitely has its place (I’m looking at you ANH Luke), but Palpatine just is not the figure to do it with. Wired robes would be the best option in my opinion.

I hate the figures that emulates clothing with plastic But the face in Sh is so good

Personally 150 sounds better. 50 for the 2 palpatine, 50 for the 2 guards, and 50 for the chair. I can’t imagine people wanting to pay 50 bucks for 1 palpatine figure. Don’t get me wrong it’s definitely a nice set

A healthy bit of paranoia is always good! Keep that glove on!

soft goods are almost always better if they are executed well like mafex does with batman figures which have poseable capes and thats superior to cheap looking plastic on s.h.figuarts sorry
