Emperor Dragonfly Nymph Hunting Prey - Creekside Education Trust

The pond at the Creekside Discovery Centre is full of life and a great place to observe nature. Watch this Deptford "born and bred" Emperor dragonfly nymph stalk and catch a Phantom midge larva. Nymphs use extendable jaws to catch other invertebrates.

There's a reason why dragonflies haven't really changed much in the last 300 million years. They are the deadliest predators on the planet with an unmatched 95% success rate when hunting, nothing else even comes close.

Like the only reason they went smaller was due to the atmosphere having less oxygen , there is a ancient dragonfly that had a wingspan of 68cm (27 inches)
