Give U2 fifteen minutes and they will make every last second of it count. Immediately after 9/11, when every other artist cancelled their tours, U2 soldiered on. Their music became the sound of healing. This performance in February 2002 bests every other halftime show in history. Not MJ, not Beyonce or Lady Gaga can ever beat this. I remember crying all the way through it. I've seen U2 live three times. Every time they play "Streets", the hair on the back of my neck stands on end. It's a religious experience.

You need to watch this live at Slane Castle - it’s like God walked into the room. This song is their mega song. Very powerful here on a very special occasion. Watch all I want is you / where the streets have no name at Slane Castle. Awesome

U2 is still the biggest rock band in the world in 2022, saw them in 2017 on their Joshua Tree tour and it Sold Out in under 10 minutes(stadium held 60,000 people). Their shows are worth every penny, its not just a. Concert its an experience.

U2 actually did the name scrolling idea during their Madison Square Garden Show, against the advisement of their management. The management thought it might still be sore subject, but U2 disagreed, saying "this is how you honor the dead." At the MSG show, they had all the first responders come on stage to be recognized. U2 had just finished nearly two years of touring and the NFL asked U2 to perform the halftime show. This will always stand as the best halftime for many reasons.

I saw this live (on TV) and every time the Super Bowl comes around I watch it again. It’s hard to say what it was like to be alive in that aftermath. Christmas was basically canceled. Everybody was so sad for months. This was the first big national event where it felt OK to be happy. U2 was able to reflect all that emotion back into the crowd and the country watching. It was cathartic

I have a weird but true U2 story. Years ago I went to the cricket at the SCG in Sydney and U2 were touring and scheduled to play the Sydney Football Stadium next door which is part of the same general complex. So Adam copeland is sick and they get their Bass Roadie to play the show but they need to practice to get the guy up to speed. So I sit at the Cricket for 7 hours and for about 6 of those hours got to listen to the U2 concert over and over.

Adam was drunk and hungover. That's why he missed the show. First time ever that he missed a show. It was the catalyst for him to seek treatment for his alcoholism.

@@gordieparenteau6555 - Yeah Stewart Morgan took over on the night. They definitely knew about the issue by 10 am the day of the show and the concert the next night was being filmed. I think they needed to make sure that if he was in a bad place the next night they were going to be good to go - hence practicing for 7 hours from around 10 to 5 that night. There was probably an element of a wake up call to him sort of "We love you Adam but if you don't fix this we aren't going to let you drag us down with you". Anyone who went to the SCG for the Sheffield Shield that day was in no doubt of the set list for that night I can tell you as they went through everything multiple times with Stewart playing every song at least 3 times. The stand that was open in the G (the Noble) backed on to the end of the Stadium and you could hear everything that was going on. We knew something strange was happening but not why at the time. If Adam had of been okay I think we might have got one run through on that day to make sure all the camera placements were right for the next night but as it was it was a good 7 hrs of them going over stuff over and over. I suspect some of the older members at the G weren't overly happy but for the rest of us it was a kind of added bonus as we got to hear a great band live for free and in it's rawest form.

@@alphaomega7191 that would’ve been the ZOO TV Tour 1992/93 - that was the 1993 show - it was meant to be a rehearsal for their live DVD but Adam was drunk so the played an additional night to compensate - that date of the DVD released - the night they recorded was 27th November 1993 - so you saw the night before 26th November 1993. After the 27th November show they only had 4 more shows until the end of that tour - two shows in New Zealand (Christchurch - Lancaster Park and Auckland - Western Springs Stadium) then the final two shows were in Tokyo, Japan (at the Tokyo Dome)

I remember just getting into the band around this time, and this performance just kinda really turned me on to the band... some European rock group who just really loves the idea of America, because there really is a lot to love. Even if it falters from time to time, there's a core ideology behind this country that's unified not by if you're simply born here, but whether you're willing to embrace the inherent inclusivity that *anyone* can by American... i dunno, just seeing some band from Ireland--after inarguably one of the most devastating attacks in US history--unabashedly show their love and support for this core American principle... it's just a very affecting performance

They used this stage for their tour. They usually made a bright new stage for the tour - the most modern at the time - and sell it later after the tour. I remeber the concert at Prague Strahov Stadium (the largest stadium in the world) in 1997 - they had very first big screen at the back on the stage (I thing made by Philips for them).

I remember watching the documentary behind this performance. The NFL finding that years halftime show. Some execs went to see U2s show and saw this performance (with the screen of names) and immediately reached out to them. U2 has such an empathy with the people. This performance was....mesmerising, tearful, beautiful. You couldn't ask for a better band to represent what the moment ment in history. To this day, BEST halftime show ever. You can have your Bruno or Prince which were great, but NEITHER live up to this moment and performance.
