I don’t understand why there’s so much hate in comments on Barbie movie? Can anyone explain it to me?
@montecristo1845
24 күн бұрын
@@user-cn5ql4ok6t My guess is either they haven’t seen the movie or they don’t understand the ideas expressed in it. Too many people (speaking as an American man) think of everything in binary terms. Like every issue is placed on one of two sides of a gigantic scale. ⚖️ They seem to think if one group or issue starts getting more rights or attention, the other half (in their minds) gets less. “More civil rights for minorities? Then you must be taking from my side!” “Equal rights did women? Well then men must be getting ignored!” And so on. They can’t conceive that when someone else achieves, what they already have is being left untouched. They see someone else obtaining respect means disrespect toward themselves. No one else is allowed to feel as happy, safe, or privileged as they feel or else the scale must be tipping. (But be cautious about offering empathy to them. That’s a four-letter word where they come from.)

Hello, Rachel! I've got a sink-or-swim situation. Please, help me. "turn smth on" and "turn on smth" are both right, but is it true that "turn on smth" is more usable in daily life? I'm asking about exactly the verb "turn".
@rachelsenglish
17 күн бұрын
Hi @eralashly! The word order for this phrasal verb is interchangeable in most situations. The two situations where it is not interchangeable are if the object is a pronoun (for example, "I turned it on" -- "turn" and "on" must be separated), and if the object is very long (for example, "I turned on the lamp I got for my birthday last year"-- it is preferable to not have "turn" and "on" separated). I hope this helps!
