My my dearest and deepest condolences sweetie. We just recently 10/10/22 lost our girl of 13 we thought she had more time. Then one day she feel over and she went down hill ( we think she had a stroke)we got her to a vet and they said it was pancreatitis but she still wasn't walking right. Well long story short she past away in my arms a few days later. Before anyone comments about going to an emergency er there is none close in my area I woke up to her actively passing away.so i feel you and I;m sorry you lost your fur baby

Kat, as both a former Vet Tech and also someone who just lost an animal to complications from cancer/lung issues, I want you to know taking her in was 1000% the right thing. As awful as it is that you didn't get a proper goodbye, trust me when I tell you that if she had just passed at home, it would have been traumatic and frightening for both of you. At the EC she had access to meds, oxygen, etc, and was kept as comfortable as possible. You did the right thing, even if it feels like you didn't. Please don't blame yourself or feel guilty about taking her in. You did what was best for her, and she knows that. My heart goes out to you.

You are absolutely right and as a fellow tech completely agree. There are things that happen that is completely out of our control it's no one's fault. I'm sorry for both your losses. An animals last few days is sooo hard and as techs you can feel beyond useless. My fiancée's cat last year was having difficulty breathing I was monitoring her Respiratory Rate and resting it would be between 60 and 80. My partner had an appointment for Monday at Banfield (if anyone was at fault it was THEM I will explain that in a second). I had my stethoscope, but she wouldn't really let me listen so I always had to palpate her HR and just do what I could. When it jump upwards of 80 she would walk, stop, pant everything was so difficult including using the litter box. The day of her appointment came and we got a call saying they would have to reschedule when I heard that and told my partner what was going on I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended that she go to emergency if they couldn't get her in soon. They said they could get her in the following day at the very end (I was beyond ticked off you don't to that with a Respiratory case PERIOD). That said we took her in and I brought my monitoring papers from the past 3 days because I was monitoring her noting when she drank, ate, and her general vitals excluding temp. I told the tech she had no discharge but had irregular respiration and the person on the desk wrote down 'visit for a cold'. Oh but it gets better. After she spent the day at their clinic and she was seen at the end (she was a drop off) they tell us we had to take her to EMERGENCY. We took her and were given an estimate (the emergency vets and techs were amazing and my fiance was willing to do anything to keep her alive) the emergency clinic had to redo images because Banfield couldn't even do that right and we found out one lung had a tumor in it and the other one had plural fluid. She died there in an O2 chamber the vet let us see her one last time before euthanize her. You are right though she was comfy and that is what matters those last moments of being comfy mean so much so there is no mistake there. As for Banfield EVERY year she was taken in for preventative care. She had URI issues an irregular amount and was always sickly. I blame myself for not seeing it sooner because when I started to date my partner I questioned "why does she run and stop" to which she said her fur baby has always done that and it's normal" when we took her to emergency I couldn't help but to hear my professors voice going "any cute quark can mean a health condition" and when the Vet stated that she had been with the pain for a long time born with an irregular thoracic cavity I can't express how much I mentally kicked myself before understanding that this was missed at every visit to the vet since she was 8mo. They never reported a heart murmer never looked further to the irregular sounds. Did they even listen? To this day I feel like it could have been prevented even a tech student would know better. Anyways I get it and it tanks to lose animals suddenly all we can do is do our best and the emergency is exactly where they should be they at least get pain meds and can have a proper send off with some decency

I was a veterinary assistant for a few years and I agree, plus if it gets painful enough the vet can administer pain meds and / or peacefully euthanize if it's needed. It does suck for an animals last moments to be not at home though :(

@hound girl Holy hell I would have been absolutely livid, it makes me angry reading this. I hope the cat had a good life, at least. After working with a good office it's crazy hearing the stories of bad ones, some of them really are incompetent. If you feel like you're getting the run around, never feel bad about switching vets.

Don’t let anyone shame you for crate training a puppy. It is good for them to know there is a safe place for them to go. A quiet place. :) So precious. My Henry is 17 and has heart issues now too. I dread the day I won’t have him around anymore. Thank you for the update!

As a vet tech my heart hurts you could not be there for her final moments, but please know you did everything the right way. You gave her a pain free way to go, and gave her all the support and needs to keep her calm and out of pain, even if it was not in the way you had hoped it would go. I never leave my patients alone in their final moments, so please know she was surrounded by love and comfort by both the veterinarian and technicians. I also never got to say goodbye to my first dog or cat and that pain is still so prominent. Love you so much and I wish you nothing but love and well wishes

Our pup is crate trained, and it was the best decision ever! We don’t have to leave him kenneled all day anymore, but we leave his crate open while we’re gone at work during the day. He is just about 19 months old, and he still seeks his crate as a safe space. Having a very high energy bird dog, we knew the dangers of puppy boredom, but crate training has made all the difference. Don’t let others shame you for how you decide to train YOUR pup! Not everyone understands your situation or your pup. From the looks of it, Tulip is a happy and thriving puppy!

Also you did right for Cocoa as well even if it feels like you didn't, they were able to keep her cozy and warm, and I am 100 percent sure the staff there at the ER gave her lots and lots of love on your behalf . I am so very sorry for your losses and your new doggy is super cute.

I’m so sorry for the loss of Cocoa. For the people that shamed you about the kennel… they just don’t know dogs! Dogs are den creatures, they need a safe place to sleep to get away when necessary and to potty train! Kennel training your dog is the best thing you can do for them! I was a Registered Veterinarian Technician in the Emergency field for 18 years and have trained many dogs in my life. I’ve also worked alongside professional dog trainers, they all agree… kennel train your dog. The dog is not living in the kennel 24/7, it’s only in there when it can’t be directly supervised and at bedtime. Congratulations on your new beautiful Tulip! I’m happy you prefer to adopt first but there is nothing wrong with buying responsibly! I’ve been trying to adopt for months now and it hasn’t happened yet, they keep going before we can even put a deposit down 😢 I’m to the point where I might just find a breeder…

I teared up at this video, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my childhood cat, Angel, in 2019. She was almost 20 years old. I got her for Christmas when I was 10. Never thought I'd cry so much over an animal, I was so upset I swore I'd never get another cat again!!! ...of course that lasted about a year and now we have my shithead Ralphie 😅 But I still miss Angel dearly and sometimes I still cry, like today. The new pets in our lives are definitely not replacements. In an ideal world, I'd have both of them. I'm very lucky that I was able to say goodbye to Angel, but I'm glad to see so many vets in the comments confirming that you did the right thing. Not only was she more comfortable and not in pain, but It would haunt you forever if she passed in your home in that terrifying situation, and your home itself would also now be stained with very painful memories instead of only having all the beautiful memories of her that you have. I'm so sorry you were unable to say goodbye in the process, it's so unfortunate when that happens. Sending you my love ❤ On a side note if you happen to read this - You (and Dark Dens!) videos have been really helping me get over some fears I have of spiders (I'm Australian, it's natural to be scared lol). I've always thought jumping spiders were so cute even if I was also a bit scared of them, but your jumping spider videos convinced me I really wanted one as a pet. I pinched Biscuit from the garden (a male maratus griseus) and he seems to be a sub adult. They grow to 8mm but he's barely 4-5mm. After seeing how clumsy and goofy this spider is, I think I rescued him and did him a favour 😂 He was very skinny when I got him and I can see why. He's such a doofus. It's a shame the jumpers in Australia don't get as big as your Phiddipus, but they're still so cute. I even played with one that was on my car door the other day, he (a male helpis minitabunda, which creeped me out at first with his long front legs) was very curious and friendly and jumped right onto my hand! Anyway that's a really long and rambly way of saying thank you for your content, you're awesome. I don't usually comment on videos but this video in particular really hit hard for me and I wanted to send you my love and support. Congrats on your new baby puppy! ❤

I am so sorry you lost Coco Puff but it is heartwarming that you have little fuzzy Tulip now, she’s adorable. I lost a Cocker Spaniel after 13 years to sick sinus syndrome/heart failure and I still cry when I think of my sweet “Heather May Not”. When she was little and getting into everything we’d say no, Heather may not chew on Daddy’s undies…etc. Haha! Thanks for posting this, I am going to contact Cuddle Clones for Heather and two more I have lost since. I think about all my fur babies. ❤

You should feel so proud of how you handled her end of life care. If you had kept her at home, it wouldn't have been a sweet passing for her. Drowning in your own lung fluid is terrifying, not peaceful. You may have lost your time to say goodbye and wrap your head around what was happening before it happened, but it was a good sacrifice. You made sure all of her time with you was filled with joy and you along with your vet team made sure the painful parts were short, managed with supportive care, and treated with dignity. You were a responsible, loving dog mom right to the end.

As a vet tech I am so sorry you couldn't say goodbye. I've had a few clients that had that happen and it broke me every time. Also, as for the crate training thing, you are ABSOLUTELY right for doing that. It keeps them out of trouble when you can't have eyes on them and it's the best for them while they're young. Whoever said otherwise doesn't know anything about puppies, don't listen to them. Also kudos to you for not taking her anywhere until she's fully vaccinated. We in the vet field thank you and you could very well be saving that pup's life 🥰

I totally understand how you are feeling. We lost our last border collie at 16 after him had a stroke at home. We took him to the vets and had to leave him. He had a massive stroke while at the vets and passed away. We never got the chance to say goodbye. I took me a long time to get over it. We now have two rescue border collies who will never replace Finlay but we’re a massive part of helping us grieve. Dogs never replace the previous one they just make our hearts even bigger. X

Is anybody else in the comment section bawling their eyes out like me? I know people in everyday life here, that would talk down to me because of my emotions but... In my eyes they are like our own children for those of us that can't have kids. I don't care if it's a frog, a cat, a dog, a rat, a snake, a tarantula. They are all our children and our responsibility. And some of us born with our babies no matter what they look like. So grieving is perfectly normal. Kat, you are a beautiful soul with a heart of gold. And I'm so happy that you found Tulip! (Also my fur baby kitty daughter's name!) I tip my hat to all those animal lovers out there just like us. Who believe our pets are more than just a possession or an accessory. It takes a special kind of person to open their hearts to a critter that needs and deserves it.

Thank you for making me cry right after waking up 😭 I also have a dog, she’s 9 years old and I had her since she was 3 months. This year was/is a rocky year. I paid about 3500€ for vet bills because she was pooping blood, like only blood, no poo, just the liquid. So I went to about 4 different vets (2 of them emergencies). The first 3 gave her antibiotics, saying it was just a bacterial infection. No one made an xray or an ultrasound. The last vet (emergency) did do an ultrasound of her belly and finding out she has a chronic gastritis - so she should take NO antibiotics whatsoever. It started in July and lasted until about October - I cried countless times before I knew it was a gastritis because I thought I might lose her. Leaving her at the emergency vet was heartbreaking! Now she’s fine (besides an open wound at her paw 😅 which we’re treating at the moment) I am so sorry for your loss, Kat! Your new puppy is adorable 🥰

You 100% did the right thing taking her in. My wee Pip also had heart failure, was on meds and we were told it was manageable, only for him to pass one night a few months later. It was a horrible experience, it was not peaceful for him and we were powerless to help in any way other than to be there for him. Please do not regret your decision, I wish more than anything Pips passing could have been made comfortable for him, the last memory of my wee boy was of him scared and suffering and it was heartbreaking. You did the right thing. You loved her with you’re entire being and that’s what matters. She knew you loved her all her life. Think about that. I had to make the decision to let my 13 year old girl go on to other side a few years ago because she ended up with heart failure and cancer at the same time. She couldn’t even walk too far or get excited without collapsing. She slept more than anything and just wasn’t herself. I could have given her meds constantly and put her through treatments and surgery but she wouldn’t have been able to handle it all and I didn’t want to make her more uncomfortable. Quality of life is always more important. It’s so hard but there is only so much we can do for them and we have to know when it’s time to let go so they aren’t suffering.

I agree with you regarding adoption and/or buying. Any time you get an animal whether purchasing or adopting it's a form of rescue. I also feel like the requirements for adoption aren't necessarily protecting the animal. Many dogs with fenced yards end up being chained up and left there. Many dogs can be kept without a fenced yard, when done right! Congratulations! Such a cutie.

I'm so sorry for you loss, Kat. I lost my furr baby in February. She turned 10 and then got super sick not even a week after. She got so so so sick in a matter of days, no treatment for her kidney failure was working. When I went to visit her on the 3rd day she wouldn't respond to me anymore, wouldn't open her eyes. She was just softly crying in pain. We had to say goodbye... It broke me in half, she was my whole world. I had to be so strong and finish my Vet Tech course to honour her. A few months before my dog I'd lost my grandmother, she died in her sleep but it was the most traumatizing thing to find her like that. I lost both of them and thought I wouldn't survive, because so many of my family members died already. Stay strong

I feel the same way when I grieve for animals. Some experience guilt for replacing an animal and I don't have those feelings. If I were to pass my dying wish would be for my pets to find new families to love them forever, and I think our pets would want the same for us. My dog may not like sharing but I know she would hate for me to be sad and alone when I could be offering g a home filled with love to a pup that needs it. I think this sentiment is extremely true for my rats too

She had complications through out a tumor removal (in the vets every other day for 2 weeks) and ended up passing away after having 2 surgery's back to back (1 on one day and 1 the next day) I think sometimes dogs know that there passing will break there owners hearts so will try and make it as easy as possible on us even if we want to say goodbye.

Awww!! That cuddle clone is so adorable and looks just like Cocoa! Poe is adorable too, and OMG Tulip. Don't let anyone shame you or make you feel bad for crate training a puppy, not everyone understands or believes in it but it can help especially for bathroom training them and keeping them from getting into things they shouldn't when you can't be watching them. I think of it as the same thing people use a playpen for babies and toddlers. I can personally understand having a very young puppy in a crate while you are making videos because you can't have your attention on a puppy and a spider at the same time. I mean I foster kittens and I keep them in a puppy playpen and let them out to explore and play several times a day but use the pen to keep them confined and safe while they are little and growing until they are big enough to go to their new forever homes. Love your videos Kat and love you and your family.

Puppies are A LOT more work than people that haven't had a puppy before think. 😁 I do 100% agree with your views on 'adopt or shop.' 💕 Our first dog was from a breeder as we were struggling to find an adopter that would allow us to adopt while we were living in an apartment at the time (we're in a house now), AND we were uncomfortable at the time with adopting a dog that either had health issues or was pre-exposed to abuse, etc. since they are EVEN MORE work and can be more unpredictable while training (sometimes, not all the time). We were just not confident in not knowing where the dog came from to adopt for a first dog, so we got our first German Shepherd puppy from a breeder (she's a happy 4-year-old now), and our 2nd German Shepherd puppy we adopted from the Humane Society (he's now 2). Our first dog would occasionally get to play with my parents' dogs, but she didn't get to have another dog around her a lot, so we really wanted to give her a companion (and they LOVE each other). We somehow got a purebred German Shepherd puppy from the Humane Society (I got him a DNA + Health test - I highly recommend getting these tests when you adopt, as they can check for genetic health issues the rescue may know nothing about). I never knew how motherly my first dog could be until we got him as a puppy (they are both fixed, btw - SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!!). She was so good at properly teaching him how to play that we NEVER had any bitey issues with him at all. She was a very good helper while he was growing up. I'm also there with you for getting another companion shortly after losing one. They're NOT replacements. I know whenever my first dog passes, since she has a huge special place in my heart by being my first, I pray that my 2nd dog is still around to help me through it. 💜

Replace dog with cat, and heart issues with kidney issues, and this exact scenario happened to our beloved cat Ollie in May. It’s startlingly similar, and I had to shed a tear because it reminded me so much of that day. Even after several months it still hurts so bad and I feel so incredibly guilty for not being able to be with him when he passed. I’ve seen cuddle clones since they started up and have always thought about getting one just for fun, but now seeing your precious Cocoa, I feel like I have to get one now. Sorry for your loss, and congrats on the new puppy!

Oh Kat I'm so sorry. We lost our cat to heart failure in June and we thought he was only about 8 years old so it was very sudden and heartbreaking. It's never the same after you lose a baby, even though we've got kittens now I still miss Solo so much. You did the right thing taking her to the vet, it's just so unfortunate that you didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I know she would have known how much you loved her and felt that love until the very end.

I am so sorry for your loss! My sweet mini dachshund Dallas passed unexpectedly early September and it was honestly so traumatic and heartbreaking. She was my first dog after moving out and had been my little shadow for almost a decade. It haunts me that I don't know what happened, she passed over night while I was at work, so the guilt is just something I'm having to work through. Please be kind to yourself, she had a good life with you and knew she was so loved! Congrats on your new girl! I'm hoping to bring another dog in my life sometime next year, but for now I have my kitties to keep me company.

My fur baby also passed away while on the vet, it's been 2 years on halloween. And I understand your pain so well! I only wish she'd been with us. But I also know that we did it because we were trying for her to get better, and neither us or the vets thought she was going to go so soon. I'm so sorry for your loss, and grieving is really hard. But I also know that your puppy is going to bring so much life and happiness to you and your family, just like ours did. Sending all the love from Brazil.

Our dog Hannibal passed two weeks ago. He was 9 yrs old. It was a complete shock. We adopted him at 6 months, the lady we adopted him from had purchased him to be a sheep dog but he loved to play with the sheep. He was an amazing dog, only the second dog we had ever had along with my mom's dog. He went down hill fast. He started acting strange, not wanting to eat, just wanting to sit on his couch, he was a lab/Australian sheep dog mix so he was a big boy. We thought he was in mourning because his long time companion, my mom' s grumpy dachshund Barnabas, who was 16, had passed two weeks before from old age on my mom's bed (we all live together, my husband, me and 2 of my 3 adult autistic children ).. That weekend Hannibal crashed we couldn't find a vet to come to the house until Monday. She told us whatever happened it was neurological and that there was nothing we could do. I'm crying as I write this, Hannibal passed surrounded by all of us in my son's arms. I'm sorry I wrote this long post, not sure why. it's still so fresh but I guess I wanted you to know I understand. I hope all three of our dogs meet up and can play and maybe chase some sheep like Hannibal always wanted.

I work at a day care and we had a members dog pass recently. He had her put down in his apartment with friends, me and my coworker (his dog walker). It was heartbreaking. I wanted to get him a cuddle clone but I make daycare money. I had my friend crotchet a cuddle clone and it turned out super cute. More cartoony than a clone but it was perfect. She even matched her fur pattern.

One thing I realized when it came to heart failure and medication in dogs is that I have absolutely never seen a dog live for longer than a week on the medication. Two dogs I've had, had heart failure, got caught early, put on medication, and then just dropped within a few days.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Kat. You definitely made the right choice for your fur baby and it would have been unnecessary pain for both of you to stay home. My own ESA, Jack, suddenly developed untreatable kidney and heart failure. I took him for his annual visit last month and I was told he looked great and healthy then got lab results a week later and he was not as healthy as he appeared. We ended up taking him to our trusted after hours emergency vet VSS as I noticed his difficulty with breathing. We were lucky that we got a private room and were able to say goodbye. It still hurts like it happened yesterday and it was a shock how fast he went downhill (less than 2 weeks from diagnosis to euthanasia) but I know that he was given the best palliative care there that I couldn't provide at home.

I'm so sorry, my sister's tiny chihuahua passed away due to complications from heart disease. Pulmonary hypotension brought her to the hospital, and it ended nearly the same way. She got worse and they called her back in and she just made it to have them put her to sleep in Dec 2019. It has been traumatic and such a hard grieving process for all of us, but my sister was completely devastated and it's been hard to explain to anyone who doesn't have a dog who is like their child. She was 17 and we had her in our lives since we were teens. My dogs are 16 and 12 and my older guy is my heart dog, he's my "familiar". He has advanced kidney disease and approaching failure, even with meds, treatments, endless blood panels, supplements, and vitamins. It's the hardest thing, and the anticipatory grief is so, so hard. I'm so sorry you're going through it.

I lost my cat 2 years ago, i was 15yo he wa 17yo and i ve always knew him, he was my everything because i would cuddle him when i was just down and he died at home in my mom s arms, quietly and i hated myself for not being there, i understand your pain. Saddly my mom s companion doesn t want any animals and he is very dominant at home, like he decides for everything so my mom and i are just there, wanting to give a chance to another cat but we can t, it s very hurtful and i think i can t do my mourn because of that. I m crying writting this and remembering my favorite moments with the one i considered as a brother and a Best friend. Your story is beautiful, have a nice life with all of your pets ❤

All I can say is that I hope you spend time thinking of the good times you shared as that is my personal preference when dealing with loss. A. As a person who worked fostering dogs for 5 years, foster groups that won't adopt to people without fenced yards and kids are counterproductive to the entire goal of fostering animals. You just push people into adopting from breeders or box stores, you have to take each case individually. We would also make anyone who adopted sign a contract stating that if they didn't end up wanting the dog they had to return it to the foster group. In the 5 years I fostered there's only one dog that I can think of that was returned (they're all RFID chipped) and that was because it was a big dog and the couple had a baby and wasn't comfortable with the younger dogs energy level around the baby. B. Anyone crate shaming doesn't know what they're talking about, dogs enjoy having their own space. I have two pit bulls and they both sleep in their kennels regularly because they know that that's their space and they won't be disturbed if there's something going on in the house or if they just get annoyed with the other dog. Don't feel bad for having kennels for your dogs, people are stupid and don't understand the instincts of their animals and try to humanize them. Instinctively they see it as the same as having a den in the wild. Just make sure the kennel is big enough that they can get up and move around, mine always have water in their kennels too.

Condolences for your loss. And good luck with Tulip. I have had both my girls as puppies (13 and 6 years now). I got her one from an old friend with whom I had lost contact after high school. While she others, I bought from a breeder who was recommended to me by the son of a colleague of mine. And look how different they are and how attached I am to both of them, it's a sunny day for me even in my darkest hours, even though they are as different as day and night (Physically, Psychologically and Fur) And I'm not looking forward to the day when I have to say hate to her eldest, but hopefully I can have her for 2 more years.
