Really interesting to hear Rob Green’s take on the No.1 spot being clear before the tournament starts. There’s a lot of debate around whether Pope or Ramsdale start for England too, but for me, Pickford has deserved to stay as No.1 for a long time now. He’s never put a foot wrong for England and is in great form too. I think changing the GK now (unless something drastic happens) would be a risk. The back four are used to Pickford behind them. He’s confident, and he is great in shootouts.

@@lostagain7292 It really wasn't though. The team under Berhalter never scored much, but they never gave up a lot of goals either. If you look at the history of the US against top level competition it's rare to see them get blown off the field. Even in years past when the talent level was lower than it is now. And no one was looking at it as an audition to play in the premier league--almost everyone on the team was already playing in europe and five of them were in the premier league. They were playing for the US.

Dempsey and Donovan, at their peaks, could both have been starters for England. Quality players who are a credit to the talent of USA players, but of the two, Dempsey was the better one. Donovan got more hype, but Dempsey was consistency personified.

This was the game that got me blocked by some British people i met on Xbox. They were talking trash before the game (which i didn't even know was being played honestly). Well that shot was everywhere on ESPN, so I came back the day after the game to continue our little conversation and lasted all of 30 seconds. Sweet memories. 😂

The problem is USA GK situation is you have to wonder why players like Turner, Steffen, Slonina signing for City, Arsenal, and Chelsea. You are going to be career backups at those clubs and easily replaceable. They all three should have signed for mid table teams or smaller teams where they had a chance to be starters to progress their careers. Waste of talent to be honest

In absolute fairness to Clint, remember, the USMNT crashed out hard in Germany 2006. That early English goal fired up the narrative, "Oh God, it's Germany all over again. The US is already cracking under pressure, and this is the first group game." The fact that Clint scored a goal that ended up bringing a point saved the American narrative. "Oh, US didn't do that well, but a draw is a draw."
