My boy Harvey going hard on that kazoo

Been listening to this song since I was a kid. Got the origional soundtrack on vinyl for Christmas, along with Star Wars and Close Encounters when I was 10, a couple years after they came out. Bought the VHS years later so my kids could watch the show, they loved it as much as I did. Today, as an older man, I play this song when I meet new folks. If they don't like the song, we can't hang out.

Love the story!! Here in Chicago, I just saw that there's a live stage performance of Jugband Christmas. Got my tickets - they better do this song justice! 🙂

@@DorkLords Mine too. I first saw this as a kid in a sing-a-long. I didn’t see the movie until years later but it was so great.

@@DorkLords Wendell is so old he has hardly any spikes left. I love it when he blows across the jug but no sound comes out. I discovered these very talented furry musicians a few nights ago when the movie came up on SBS. I have shared the vids of the Riverbottom Nightmare Band and Emmett Jug Band with my son who is a jazz musician. He absolutely loves them. Ha Ha. Thanks for posting

Actually It was because their song was sung by another constant so they had to come up with a new song on short notice, but it wasn't as catchy as Barbecue.

I saw the Riverbottom Nightmare Band in 1986 at a Raffi show. I was 4 years old. My buddies and I snuck in after we each killed a fifth of Maddog 2020 and smoked a dust blunt. Craziest show I ever saw. After the cops brought us home I did 3 days in my bedroom after my parents grounded me. It was totally worth it.

Gotta love these guys. :)

Anyone who doesn’t like this has no taste. Also, Emmet looks like someone I knew in the past. The resemblance is amazing. That’s not even an insult at all. Emmet really looks like that person.

That's a cool point - these are puppets designed to look like animals, but their faces do have a human quality to them.

Good point - if I'd been in the jugband, I'd have said, "let's just play the song we planned/rehearsed. Our version is better, and that's one less contestant to worry about."

@@zt1053 Right - I think they only gave themselves an afternoon to rehearse. I remember in middle school trying to lip synch "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" for the school talent show with basically 30 minutes of rehearsal. Shockingly, I did not win.

The spoons! In my first band, we played a cardboard dulcimer with a spoon for a whammy bar. 🙂
