Now comes the really hard part - coping with the pressures (high expectations, fame) that come with being so successful at such a young age. The history of women's tennis is (unfortunately) littered with teen phenoms that have fizzled out after a couple of years. It takes great strength of character - but my guess is that she has the necessary character to manage all of it and become one of the truly greats.

Had to qualify, won 10 straight matches and didn't drop a set. Never done before and doubt it will be repeated. Extraordinary!

Emma's resting face is just short of a smile, that's why she smiles so easilly. Some people naturally frown and its several phases to bring their faces around to a smile. Its part of her childhood, clearly a happy one, she was a lovable child, with loving parents. Good for her.

I watched every single one of Emma's matches from Rd 1 onwards and I was amazed at how generous she was to the fans. She happily signed every autograph, took every selfie, chatted with anyone who said anything to her and gave away all her towels and wrist bands. Every single round. It got to the point where the officials had to force her off the court because there was another match about to start. Just a genuinely kind, humble, and selfless person. Trust me, not all players are like this.

Yes I noticed this too but I was a bit concerned at the lack of security in the early rounds but all ended well, she says and does the right things and is a natural self promoter she definately ' gets it'! She also won that final against a largely partisan crowd. Keep calm and watch Emma play the Zen girl with the pearl earings.🎾🙏🇬🇧

I was raised romanian in Canada and born in the middle east.... no matter where in the world we were my mom always instilled her Romanian roots. I speak Romanian at home though we never grew up there and my mom always taught me.... Sa fi cea mai tare din parcare! ... I don't doubt for 1 second her father didn't think the exact same way. I definitely can see that coming from her Romanian side.

@Andy Mann well I can tell you lots of Romanians feel brexit was to oust them. They didn't feel accepted as British. But when Romanian immigrant child becomes sensation they praise and take pride. Where is the pride for all the hard working Romanians in not so glamorous jobs that immigrated and raised their children there ? Or are they just immigrants .... Emma was raised in British educational system and England is better for having her but we know the sentiment England has towards Romania and that they repeatedly stated in EU parliament they wanted Romania and Bulgaria out of the EU . Emma is proof that England only appropriates and basks in the glory when it suits their world image for the better.....

@Andy Mann while I may sound Canadian and grew up here I couldn't be further from it. I take pride we are immigrants and even more pride my parents from different backgrounds and religions jewish Spanish Israeli dad and romanian Christian orthodox mom. Both were very focused on making sure we maintained as much of our heritage as possible. Keeping all holidays combined and visits to Romania and israel all the time. Sarmale for Christmas and latkes for hannukah .. never a boring moment. I got the best of 3 worlds . I have no shame or problems to pass down to the next generation and will consider my children israeli/ Romanian no matter what. Well in a strange way the pure British have lost England. They decided they wanted to be nation of the world and not nation of British and now they miss the old Britain. I will be honest when we go to Romania with my mom she lights up and just being around only Romanians . She misses it , bus driver speaking Romanian, shopping everywhere in Romanian and being amoung Romanian . So in a way I can see why brexit happened but I also think it's too late as well since England has so much multiculturalism that now trying to turn back is not possible.

Not only she's a phenomenal champion, she is also gorgeous and has good attitude. She's gonna have a lot of endorsement deals, instant celebrity. I hope she and her team protect her privacy from media frenzy and Paparazzi, because she's still teenager, let her growing up as normal as she can have.

That's honestly my biggest concern, the media circus that will follow this. It will be oppressive at times so she needs a strong team around her to keep as much off her plate as possible and, like you said, protect her privacy. She's an extremely intelligent person, so I'm optimistic that she'll figure out how to navigate this new reality she'll find herself in. It's all about sticking to your core values, having the right people in your corner, setting clear boundaries, and learning to say "no".

No-one had heard of her till Wimbledon (except for her coaches and a few people deeply invovled with UK tennis)! That was her first pro tournament. The speed of her ascent is breathtaking and unique.

Her smile is incandescent, brighter because of the person behind it. She's such a poised, sweet, grounded and articulate young woman, more than just a beauty who charms with her looks. Her performance at the US Open was amazing--powerful groundstrokes, variety, guile and heart. I hope this is just the start for her and not a one-off. But it will be hard for her to top what she's already accomplished, and the media buzz around her will be challenging for her to tune out.

Maria Sharapova and Boris Becker both won Wimbledon at the tender age of 17. However, Emma's story is remarkable because of how little she's played on the tour. But I agree Emma is unique and very special, but it was a great final also and you have to give Layla a huge amount of credit, Emma just perhaps had her number having beaten her before as a Wimbledon junior.

Emma smiled and waved after her defeat in San Jose a few weeks back to Zhang, Emma is so sweet natured, she’s the real deal and so funny.

She is a confident woman. A good role model.

She is already an ambassador in tennis at her age. The future is looking brighter with her beaming smile.

She is so natural in all ways. No rhetorics at all and seems just herself, be it on or off the court, winning or loosing (a game that is, still to loose a match in a grand slam)

Emma is British 100% - I'm saying this being Romanian. Debate about belonging to one ethnicity or another is not about DNA, is about the culture of he or she feels is belonging to. We have here in Romania a permanent dispute with Hungarians and I'm always telling them 'just do not do your DNA test, you might be surprised about where your ancestors are from.' In Transylvania there were about 14 different ethnic populations a few hundred years ago so chances of one to be direct relative only with Huns, Maghiars, Dacs or Romans are pretty small.

I grew up in Canada and born in Tel aviv, Israel to Romanian mother and Spanish Jewish father..... si sunt mandra ca sunt romanca . Deci nu conteaza unde in lume suntem daca parinti pastreaza limba si cultura lor. Nu am trait o zi in viata mea in Romania. Vorbesc ebraica si romana cu amandoi parinti si avem 30 de ani in Canada si mama are 40 de ani din Romania afara si nici o data a iutat de unde a venit

Emma is any company brand's dream ambassador with a great combination of athletic skills, look and personality (brawn, beauty, brain), that combined with a mix ethnic background give her a tremendous global appeal. An amazing accomplishment/story given her odd of winning the US open as a qualifier before the tournament was statistically 0!!!

You have to share her though.. *🇹🇩🇨🇳🇬🇧 She wasn't even qualified for being of British nationality (under the British naturalization process) to be called a _"brit",_ only now since she turned 18, less than a year ago. Till now, her whole life it was just her ancestral identity that represented her. And the choice of colors for her competing outfit 🇹🇩 clearly indicates with whom she feels it identifies her firstly. It doesn't matter where she was born for her ancestral identity to be affected. Being part of a certain country means that you have a sense of belonging there and are proud of it. Her mother is Chinese, but by her own words from a recent interview, she _"has a strong connection with Romania _*_(her ancestral country)_*_ because of her father and she often visits Bucharest, a town in Romania where her paternal grandparents reside."_ And I'm sure she's got some bond with China as well. So to ignore that big part of her identity it's not just ridiculous but disrespectful towards her, her family and her ancestral country. I'm not Romanian myself but I know the colors of my neighboring country and I can recognize a Romanian name when I see one. And I say this as I'm disgusted by the near-posibility of that _"brit"_ prefix to be put next to the Novak Đoković name if his parents would have accepted the money that the brits offered for him to move and become a British citizen and later national when he was a junior..

Lucky enough to watch Emma in person at the Open, and after winning one of her matches I knew she was something special, on and off the court. She spent so much time with the fan's after her 3rd round victory. She's become a fan favorite who has the skill, personality, and mental strength to be a top player in the WTA and role model for years to come. 👏👏👍👍🎾🎾🎾🎾

18 years old and so well-spoken, on TV, no less! I think her composure on public and media speeches is an even bigger accomplishment than her grand slam win.

Love Emma Raducanu's dressing style. Well-educated British have great taste :)

@@randyschwaggins I don t think that was intentional, even more so when yellow is the main collour for romanians representing their country, not red. If anything Halep was the one playing in romanian colours at this US Open, not Raducanu. Most likely she just did wear that outfit cos she liked it more than otehrs she had and felt confortable in it, but ppl like to stir shit up don t they?

@Cian MacGana Of course your correct and Canada is a great country. Emma has enjoyed the tennis and was happy to play for her adopted country. She may well decide at some later date to live anywhere in the world she chooses, she now had the money to do so. But boy how proud of her are we British that she chose to represent us at tennis and won hands down. We are all so very much proud of her in the UK. many people Love Britain and our people and many more want to move here too!

@Cian MacGana Yes she was born in Canada but Canada has nothing to do with her tennis prowess. Her genetics are Chinese and Romanian and she developed her game in the UK.

I watched the match, although I never intended too. The player that kept cool, and calm, without any snide smirks won. Well done young lady👍🏿👍🏾👍🏽

Emma is a star. A gorgeous smile that is infectious..I can’t stop smiling when she smiles. She played amazing tennis and thoroughly deserves her title. A fresh beautiful talent has entered from stage left

What an amazing young woman. Massive respect.

She is so mature for her age. So skilled, humble, articulate but still maintain that teen happiness n freshness.

So happy for her success. I really hope people live her life on her terms and not put undue pressure and criticism if she hits a difficult period. She’s a nice breath of fresh air and pray she stays level headed and remain that way
