@@underratedblastoise3908 Funny how nobody EVER talks about Clijsters, Henin, Davenport Hingis, Sharapova, Kournikova etc. They all seem to have been forgotten and NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM had the impact on tennis that Serena did. I've heard NUMEROUS up and coming tennis players (of all races) talk about how they were inspired by Serena and looked up to her and that she's the reason they got into tennis. I've honestly heard NO ONE say they were inspired by Henin and Clijsters or that they were the reason they picked up a tennis racket in the first place. If that's not correct, then please do let me know.
The match was much competitive and could go both way so it was really closer than the scores suggested. Serena inching to finishing line in both first and second sets. She did real good and is still highly competitive at her age!

She was particularly nasty the last 6 years when she found it impossible to get that one elusive slam needed to draw level with Court (which in my mind does not make her a 'great'. A true great would not have choked all the finals she was in to match and beat that record). Like here, the 'I am retiring' speech was timed to ensure the crowd were even more partisan and on her side, helping put the opponent off. Williams in my view was a good and at times very good player but great she ain't and a role model for other kids she really, really is not.
