I grew up in the 70s and I don't recall these sorts of injuries. They are working these athletes like race horses. There's no consideration for their health or spirit at all. I can't imagine the stress they go through from tournament to tournament. So much incredible pressure to win as often as possible. i hope her injury isn't long lasting. This was going to be a solid match.

Players in seventies had no injuries, because they were mediocre. Too much strength involved with today"s game, they need to change the balls, courts, & equipment. Sampras would serve & the point was over, he was winning so much, but his serve blowing by opponents was so boring that people quit coming to matches, but Sampras couldnt win himself out of a paper bag on clay courts. Anyway changes was made to powerful servers that they never got to be number one no more, because of many changes, but the major change was 2 different racket strings vertical, & horizontal. They need to make changes, but not make changes to help boring players like Sampras. There are so much injuries that today"s players only want to win the big money paying grand slam tournaments. Djokovic has won so many grand slams, because he is the only player that wants to play in the money playing Australian Open, because the Australian Open is in the winter time when most players want to take a rest & are out of shape, so to avoid injuries, & take time off & be at home, & cut travel expenses.

Womens tennis in the 70's and 80's had a very small number of actual top players who would blitz 6-1, 6-2 or easier through the field barely facing any opposition until the 1/4 finals at least. Totally different sport today.

I was at the match. It all happened so suddenly, caught everyone by surprise. We were all expecting an exciting match, people started waiting more than an hour before the match to stake out the good seats, it was a hot day and the side of the stadium with the back against the sun was completely packed 1/2 hr before the match. The practice schedule said Dayana was supposed to practice with Sakkari until 10:30am on that court but they never showed. The match started >5 min late. When it happened we just saw Dayana holding her stomach and walking towards the back, then the umpire came and soon it was all over. I hope she'll be okay. Emma showed a lot of empathy, gave Dayana and nice hug and led the fans to cheer for her, she knows what it's like to be injured and they seem to be friends. She was also very sweet to the fans after, they all loved her and ate her up. First time I ever saw Emma in person she is very pretty but very skinny and delicate looking, I'm afraid Sabalenka will blow her off the court😟.

what's sad about this is the umpire didn't put a hand on her as you normally would if someone was not feeling well or injured. THAT is humanity. Society has rubbed that out, and to humanity's detriment. A man could never do what Emma did whether he wanted to. I think she was faking. The #30 ranking was getting her butt kick 4-0 and was embarrassed and not to lose #30 ranking. Emma Raducanu ranking went up. She has a great tournament and lost 6-4 7-6 to the #2 ranked player. Had a great tournament and went up in her rankings. Ranucanu has played very well and never saw it in her rankings. She has had 1 bad match. She has played upper ranked players and won concisely and lost close matches. She is a top 65-75 player for her performances. It’s time to stop looking at her US Open. She is 21 years old and treated like someone 25-30 years old. She has held her own. Her draws have not been to friendly. She still has performance has been nothing but positive. Emma Raducanu deserves the respect she deserves and is 21 not 25. She is that player that no one wants to play no matter what her rankings are. She gets better each time out.
