Emirates says “NO” to Airbus A350! What’s WRONG???
After the Paris Air Show in June 2023, which is more likely a competition between the two aircraft manufacturing giants, Airbus, as the winner, went home happy with 830 on a total of 1100 orders from carriers. However, the situation was reversed as soon as the Dubai Air Show took place in November of the same year, in which Boeing chalked up 295 aircraft orders, three times more than Airbus’ 86. And the shocking point was about the poor order of the A3 50 with particularly no order for the latest and largest variant, the A3 50-1000. Even a such giant like Emirates Airlines, which is always looking for bigger aircraft, humbly ordered only the smaller version, the A3 50-900, with 15 units. Ethiopian Airlines and EgyptAir also made their decision to buy respectively 11 and 10 units of the A3 50 but they were all about the -900 variant.
Emirates says “NO” to Airbus A350! What’s WRONG??? So, where did the A3 50, especially the -1000, go wrong? Let’s find out in today’s episode!
But before we start, if you haven't subscribed to our channel yet, please like, comment, and subscribe so you'll be the first to see our next videos. Now, let’s dive in!
Emirates says “NO” to Airbus A350! What’s WRONG??? At first glance, it seems like this is not a big deal and Airbus wouldn’t get any damage at all since their sales are still going up, evidenced by the orders they received for the -900 model. But when looking closer at the competition between Boeing and Airbus in terms of fulfilling airlines’ demands, it would be a completely different situation. For those airlines that are operating from a single big airport hub like Emirates and some other Gulf airlines, really big jets are necessary for them to make full use of their hub capacity and maintain the number of aircraft arrivals and departures at manageable levels.

Both RR Trent-XWB 84 & 97 are the worlds most efficient turbines, they also have incredible despatch reliability numbers that is why the A350 is so popular, it is providing efficient & reliable power to a light & beautifully made airframe that airlines what & need if they are to turn a profit & remain in business. A350-1000 ( RR T-XWB-97 ) has had many recent orders by airlines wanting to replace ageing B777 aircraft because they have knowledge from airlines who already have had great success with this model like Qatar, BA, Virgin, & Cathay. Because one airline exec doesn`t like this engine for his own reasons won`t mean this engine will not be successful as the order-book for this aircraft will make it very successful regardless. Along with awful delays to B777X & RR`s commitment to invest many millions into improving the durability of all their engines it could be argued that Emirates could be making a critical mistake in not spreading the risk in the replacement of their ageing aircraft as AB`s order-book is filling-up quickly. Airlines such as Etihad, JAL, KLM, EVA, Delta, & Korean have had the foresight to understand this situation.

Quite right. If the B777X is further delayed, or has teething problems in service, they'll need the A350-1000 as backup, and if Airbus take on another big order for the A350 this summer, maybe Qatar, and there's even a rumour about AA(!) ordering the A350-900, in which case Emirates will have to order now to get any deliveries before 2030, or they could end up with a significant part of their fleet being labelled as vintage, which is against their policy......

If this was just released 2 weeks ago then it is both "old" news and has now been shown as false news as Emirates has announced they are buying a good number of the A350, both 900 and 1000 variants.... very poor reporting. Emirates have said they dont expect the Boeing 777X to be ready for delivery by 2026 as wanted and promised by Boeing.

This news is at least 9 months old, and Boeing still doesn't have a 777-X to take advantage of the situation. If RR can sweet talk Emirates (or actually address his concerns) before the 777-X gets certified, or if Airbus finally agrees to NEOfy Emirates' A380 fleet, then this issue is gone.

The 737 will pulleys and some computerized help is also a dinosaur and calling the further explotation of the design evolution is a joke. 787 is known for the magic marker and hand cut fuselage parts. The company is in deep shit and stands for the general decline of the west. Mercedes Benz has kind of the same problems. There is a fundamental difference between consumer and professional markets but as we see bad quality is everywhere. And yes I have a long blacklist of Airlines and still fly confortbly. No Ryanair, LH, TAP strictly ! If avoidable : Iberia. For an error fare in Business I would fly all of them except TAP and generally 3rd world airlines. The Kenyan is surprisingly good with one of the best seats in C even beig a 2-2-2. Emirates in Business with 2-3-2, bling bling cabin and astronomical prices : No thank you, eco is fine.

Buying out entire aviation companies can't always help in the long run!!!--Boeing is just self without aid from partner nations at its side to help with massive and expensive projects.. That can be particularly stifling & Greweling at the best of time working alone when it comes to competition with Airbus... What Boeing should be doing is looking for PARTNERS NATIONS To help with its massive projects.... Much like AIRBUS had done for its self a loooong time ago!!!! I'm surprised Boeing has survived as long as it has working as a traditional single Non- Multinational company...

Emirates want RR to reduce the price of their TotalCare maintenance package on the XWB-97 that powers the A350-1000. Its a souped up version of the XWB-84, it therefore needs more maintenance and is subsequently a more expensive package. This engine was the cutting edge of technology when launched, but might be upgraded in the next few years to satisfy Emirates. However, even if it isn't, Emirates will have to order the A350-1000 soon, because if there are further delays with the B777X, they will need it, and if the A350 orders that are currently in the pipeline are confirmed, delivery dates for Emirates could be in the 2030s. Emirates are playing a game of bluff with Airbus and RR on price, so hold your nerve boys, they need the A350-1000, more than the A350 needs them right now. If it all goes wrong for Emirates, they could end up with a significant amount of its fleet being made up of vintage aircraft...😀...

The RR UltraFan is launching for wide-body aircraft while Pratt & Whitney is for narrow body single isle aircraft. Pratt & Whitney having another major GTF recall due to contaminated powder metal used to manufacture the GTF’s rotor discs, has put Pratt & Whitney at least a decade behind in development for larger GTF engines along with its planned 2nd generation GTF to replace its current GTF engine models. With Pratt & Whitney’s never ending GTF quality control and reliability issues, Commercial Airlines likely will not take another chance on Pratt & Whitney for decades to come putting RR in the perfect position with its GTF UltraFan to capture and dominate the entire GTF markets.

Airbus will be making only 10 a month from 2026. Having an engine option is very expensive, so what's in that for Airbus......?

The GE9X has not yet proven itself to be more maintenance friendly than the RR XWB-97 in service conditions. Its not in airline service. Boeing has an exclusive on the GE9X and RR has an exclusive on the A350 until 2030. Emirates are quibbling over the TotalCare package offered by RR, its a game of bluff. Even Qatar have not complained about the XWB-97 engine that powers the A350-1000, and they operate in similar conditions..........

Looks like Emiartes want to stick to as few aircraft types as possible. So buying few of the A350 is not what they really want. They want over a houndred aircraft of the type, and they want it to be 777X. It is logical, especially since their fleet is heavily relaiante on A380, which is also growing older, and with no way to replace them. A350 is simply too small in the long run, and provide too much complexity.

As mentioned, RR is dealing with the situation but they could not give guarantees for the moment. So by the time Emirates receives its 777x the problem will be dealt with. It remains to be seen if the new Ge engine will have the same issues or not. I guess Emirates might come back for the A350-1000 if RR has solved the problem, as they have admitted. The trust in the new Ge engine might be misplaced if we look at previously introduced new engines and their history.
