It wouldn’t expect him to know Norah Jones since he’s not in her demographic nor listens to her kind of music. I’m not defending the Grammy’s and their voting committee because I think they’re bullshit but Norah Jones is a big name in Jazz/Folk so there could be an argument made for her earning a Grammy. But like I said, the Grammys neglects rap music in general and overlooks it in favor of more radio friendly music. Eminem is definitely a bigger name than Norah Jones in pop culture.

@@James-kx6hl um what? First of all, the Grammys should be a status symbol of musical excellence, not a reflection of commercial success or global recognition. Second, if you watch the actual interview and not just this clip, he expands on this context that the the Grammys sometimes lie to get certain people there to promote the show, be cause it is a show broadcasted on TV and the let people who won know ahead of time so they can prepare a speech. He wasn't Dissing Norah or Lala Dottie (if that's a real performer alias.) It's an issue that he called out in The Real Slim Shady from his Marshall Mathers LP, a couple of years prior to The Eminem Show which he was nominated for the same year that Norah won. It's not a slight at her artistic talent or commercial success, but an issue with the Award show. "But, Slim, what if you win? Wouldn't it be weird?" "Why? So you guys can just lie to get me here?" I've never really heard of Norah Jones either but that doesn't mean that her music isn't great or that she didn't deserve that award.

Even if people want to say Norah Jones had an amazing 2002 and sold incredibly well (it was that kind of stuff you heard in every coffee shop or a bookstore to be honest). Eminem sold 7 Million more copies than her. The difference was she was this charming, easily digestible media daring with a bohemian vibe and Eminem made an album that almost got him banned from the radio, and the Grammys punked out and took the less controversial option.

They use the bigger artists to draw in the crowd and use the awards to create names for smaller artists who people talk about because of the injustice but gets free marketing from it. By the next year, they now have a new artist to draw in the crowd. Its a cycle to keep bringing in fresh artists, getting them fame and using their name to stay relevant. Look at Taylor Swift. Very few knew her. Beyonce was tipped to win. Taylor won. Kanye was the icing on the cake. And now Taylor is the biggest selling artist but no where near the best singer, best entertainer or best artist. She is a plant. At some point though, she will be usurped at the awards and the person who wins will be an up and coming artist that gets free publicity to catapult their career
