I understand not liking that word but I always thought the idea of Eminem or at least Slim Shady was that he’s trying to offend you, so with people upset that he used the F word are just playing into his hands. He wants you to get upset, he made a whole song about murdering his girlfriend in horrifying descriptive detail to the point where the clean version of the MMLP1 doesn’t even have that song on it period. I agree the word is offensive but people wanted Slim Shady, now he’s back and people are offended and pissed off again. People don’t know what they want

Nah it's just low. It's kind of insulting to anyone who's gay (and giving it a bad connotation). And Tyler had problems coming out so it's very harsh. It's too far imo.

Tyler used that word legitimately 200+ times on his debut album Goblin (which was before he came out as openly gay) and actually got blackballed from a lot of airways because of it so I interpret Em as saying not only did he use a word so offensive to promote himself initially but he also is being sac-religious in the right that he is a gay man that seemingly overcompensated for his sexuality at the time of his first album. And then on top of that the d12 line is more of a simplification in order for the audience to get the initial double entendre that may lead people to think harder into what he is saying at face value

V Vito tyler can use the word without backlash bc he IS gay/bisexual, duh. and nice straw man, but fans who acknowledge how harmful eminem’s use of the f-word is are also perfectly capable of acknowledging how harmful tyler’s edgy rape-y early music was. besides, it must be noted that tyler’s early music is just that: early. he’s matured past that edgy shock-value rapping style, and so have most of his fans. meanwhile eminem is fucking 46 years old and still scrambling for relevance by throwing slurs at young artists who are making better music than him.

That doesnt justify the other side. Also as they said, it's a mistake because people instead of focusing on the message get hung on the word. People will not change, you can predict how they will react and you need to adapt if you want a message to go through.

The reason he cencored the word was because he wanted to reference what Tyler said and not say it himself. He wasn't calling him the word, he only brought up that Tyler would use the word in the past *before coming out, mind you* The part about him not lacking attention is Em trying to say that Tyler only alluding to him coming out without ever directly saying it is Tyler trying to seek attention by allowing people to continue speculating and never making anything official The sack-religious line is in reference to how he used to treat D12 as gods, but went out of his way to trash "Walk on Water" Of course the running gay joke throughout all of this is also Em trying to not say anything directly but alluding to the speculation of Tyler's sexuality

Em would constantly use that word and many other slurs and people (most people I guess) understood that he wasn't homophobic he even did a show with Elton John at the Grammy's. 1. The word was censored in the actual song 2. Tyler has used the word many times as an insult. Notably on Yonkers where he said "I'll crash that plane that that faggot n**** B.o.B is in" 3. He never called him a faggot, he's criticising Tyler using his sexuality as a way to promote his album. We don't actually know if Tyler is gay or not. 4. This is a diss towards Tyler. It's like if you have a friend and between you two, you're comfortable calling each other cunts, then an outsider says you're being to harsh to each other. You are they to decide what lengths your insults should go to. 5. Marshall said that he see's why Tyler alluded to him being gay on his album, he never called him gay.

I agree with what you said about that ugly word. However, bare in mind that he's portraying himself morphing back into "Slim Shady" here (the shadow monster being a metaphor for that). So as much as I personally dislike the use of that word, from a purely artistic perspective, it would actually make perfect sense for him to use it here. Furthermore, to delve deeper into this, it could even be argued that to be against Slim Shady using homophobic words (or saying anything considered offensive or controversial) is kind of like being against Freddy Krueger killing kids in their dreams...no, seriously, stay with me on this...You're not really supposed to like the fictional Slim Shady character (much as fans were never originally supposed to think Freddy is cool)...And yet, some fans love him. So... "You wanted Shady? You got it!" As for his self-censoring. This is not the first time he's done something like this. In his much older track, "Criminal", he cut himself off from saying the N-word: "I drink more liquor to fuck you up quicker Than you'd wanna fuck me up for saying the word ..."

I’m super late on this, but couldn’t help adding my two cents about the censored word. Em addressed it in Part 3 of his interview with Sway. When he wrote the track, he didn’t know that Tyler was actually gay or bisexual. There was the whole thing where Tyler came out and then said he was joking. Then later actually came out. Em censored it because he genuinely regretted it but didn’t want to go back and edit himself. See, the F word is a slang insult that often has nothing to do with actual sexual orientation, so there is the grey area where it’s okay to be gay but not okay to be a (f word). Em wanted to call him the f word but not insult a gay person for their sexuality. There are only two words he has every voluntarily censored. This one and Beyoncé’s name from an earlier track after Jay-Z asked him to. Also, Tyler laugher about the diss and was complimented by being mentioned on the track.

I'm glad you guys question his use of the word, alot of people seem to just go along with it and finding any other analysis of it is kinda hard. Tbh im not sure how i feel about it myself. It sets up the next bar pretty well but im sure he could have worked around it. Maybe he felt so pressured to be "The old Em" that he decided to let people know he wasn't some fuddy duddy who complied with todays standards of speech. It's very interesting that he decided to bleep it out aswell

Em took Tyler on tour a few years back and they built somewhat of a friendship. When walk on water came out Tyler publicly bashed the song which rubbed em the wrong way. Em spoke on the diss on an interview and apologized for the saying the word Remember eminem made his career of bashing everybody. When eminem and a bunch of other people say the word they don't mean it to offend gay people, but in this political climate you have to approach with caution.

Em blocked the word out himself and was disappointed that people could still figure out what it was. He admits that he was angry and hurt when he made the song otherwise he never would have used it. As others have said Em is NOT homophobic at all. Elton John is his AA NA Sponsor. When he knew he needed to get sober in 2008 the person he called for help was Elton John.

about the word in question: Em actually addressed that in an interview saying that he said it and then decided against it after the fact- it is bleeped out both in the video and on the album. He has also as I said addressed it publicly, not trying to hide what he initially said but saying the he didn't want to use the word so I feel like if anything - it shows that he is aware of how the word has a different 'place' in the hip hop world now than it did. (also, Em is deffo not homophobic, or at least his mates who are gay say he aint).

The word was bleeped out in the actual song too, not just the KZread video. He's quoting him, he bleeped it out because he understands the things wrong with that word which I'd why he hasn't used it in many years. There's no other way to take it, the lyrics are "I see why you called yourself a fa***t". If Em wanted to call him a "fag", he would, he's got no problem saying what he means and owning it. That's what his entire career has been about.

Eminem has said before that whenever he uses the F word like he did here, there’s no homophobic connotation to it in his POV because that word was thrown around a lot when he was on the come up. It was used to call someone a jerk, asshole, or just a punk. Not justifying the use of that word but that’s just how Eminem himself views it.

The word is censored because the singer is openly gay, and asked Eminem to either a) change the lyric or b) remove his chorus from that song. Instead, they just censored it (the singer came out and tweeted that he did not want that word to be in the song) As for why he said that to Tyler, he said this on a song: “Next line I’ll have them like woah, I’ve been kissing white boys since 2004” plus he talked down on Eminem’s revival album; therefore, Eminem used that line and twisted it into a diss.

I know I'm late to the party but: In addition to what everyone else already said, Em has stated on multiple occasions that growing up in his area, that word was always just used as being weak, being soft. It was never an attack on gay people. Also people need to stop being offended, like you said 10 years ago it wasn't even a big deal to say that. Same as with the word nigger or honkie or chink or whatever, they're just words. People give them the power they hold by being offended and shocked by them.
