Her honesty is admirable. When she said she used to pray to be beautiful, it is something that can sound pretty shallow and it is super personal- but it is something a lot of us I am sure pray in a whisper, for only us and God to hear. I have prayed countless times to be pretty since I was literally 10 years old. Reading her say she did the same was super surprising and hit me hard, because it says a lot about what it is to be born a girl in this world.

Thank you for doing this interview, it was a real eye opener for me. She's seems so much more humble and personable than her model persona allows. BTW, Marilyn by Norman Mailer is such a fantastic book, and I just noticed it on the top of the stack of books under the table. Have a wonderful day Drew Crew!

Our culture sets impossible standards of beauty. It's interesting Emily talks about the beauty industry but also still works in the industry that imposes these impossible standards.

She has a great deal of credibility because she’s actually a current successful supermodel and saying these things. Her words do hold some weight and people will listen.

exactly. and when asked this question she only skates around it. this book is just another way to profit off of it. emily is a great example of a capitalist feminist.

Howard Stern a great guy?!?! He used to have a segment on his show called "Dummer than a box of rocks" where he would have stippers over to humiliate them.

We all have our "Karma." As little girls we either get strong conscious messages or subtle unconscious messages. I can remember being 12 and 13, hitting puberty, and suddenly feeling very chubby and "ugly." I certainly did not have Emily's experience, but this is her experience, and I find her to be intelligent and aware. She can help a lot of young women with her writing.

You’re not understanding what she’s saying . She’s criticizing society . At a young age she internalized the fact that the world only cares about how a woman looks ; and nothing else . Shes talking about it with remorse and disappointment
