Emilio Aguinaldo Speech in Spanish

In 1931 Douglas Fairbanks went on a trip to Asia, and made a comic travelogue entitled "Around the World in 80 Minutes". The clip from the Philippines included a short speech in Spanish by Emilio Aguinaldo.
Fairbanks was a movie producer and actor in silent films. He co-founded the American film studio United Artists and hosted the first Oscars Ceremony in 1929.
Una traducción literal: I have given welcome to our great actor, Douglas Fairbanks, from America. For the same reason, I hope that this visit by this great actor, who has humbled himself to us, will develop greater harmony between Americans and Filipinos.

Actually Spanish is the most easiest to learn for Filipinos aside from English. You're lucky that you get to learn Spanish in your academic curriculum. Bonifacio was belittled by Aguinaldo because he was haughty of his educational attainment that Bonifacio failed to have. But being a voracious reader made Bonifacio a well informed person aside from his innate intelligence. Greed for power and Aguinaldo's criminal instinct wasted the great lives of Luna and Bonifacio.

Luna and Boni wasnt ordered to be killed by aguinaldo, its just because he was considered a dictator so he got the blame for everything, Luna was ordered to be killed not by aguinaldo, but by one of his cabinet members, he didnt personally order the kill, but they still killed him without notice nor permission from Aguinaldo, plus, if he was informed, he would have stopped it immediately, but he wasnt informed of the situation. Bonifacio was executed because he was forced by the cabinet to do so, his original plan was exile, but his cabinet still insisted for execution, since it can cause Bonifacio to gather men that are still loyal to him and push for a counter-attack to overthrow the first Philippine republic. And i also forgot to mention, even before Aguinaldo instated himself as dictator, he was the one delivering victories to the katipunan when the magdalo faction was created in cavite, he was victorious in the battles against the spanish colonial government, just not to the americans who are at the time, more superior to the filipino soldiers, anyways, Bonifacio, even the early years of the revolution, he was NOT victorious, not because he was uneducated, but he was mainly using brute force for the battles which were obviously not a great idea, he also didnt plan the attacks beforehand, and didnt really have a sense of direction and just had one sense of direction to independence, Aguinaldo however did not do those.

I wish the Filipinos would have get the independence without the american oppression, they killed almost one million filipinos, and when liberating from the japanese, many people in Manila who spoke spanish died from the bombardments, and it cost too many years to get real independence to the Filipinas, because of the USA imperialism. Also, despite I am not catholic, is nice that Filipinas has catholic culture like spanish, they would have if not muslim culture probably like Malaysia. ¡VIVA FILIPINAS!

i believe that awareness of the Spanish language can help us unravel more of our colonial histories, as many of the historical documents laid behind were all in Spanish (like the writings of Apolinario Mabini and Teodoro Kalaw that were never examined in full). as a national language though, nope it isn't necessary anymore. it's like having a big fiesta with one lechon sufficient for all while bringing another lechon that will never be consumed entirely by all, leaving it to unnecessary waste. access to education should be the highest priority before adding "bonuses" to the current system.

The truth is Aguinaldo sold out Bonafacio to the Spaniards. He gave the Spaniards vital information about Bonafacio's location and troops strength. Aguinaldo was so jealous of him cause he's courage and popularity. Spain considered him more as a threat to their empire and Aguinaldo at the time was about to get captured. So Aguinaldo, to saved himself, made a deal with the Spaniards. Ill give you Bonaficio for a safe passage to Hong Kong(exiled). Organizing an election and when he didn't like the result, revolted on the people who didn't vote for him. Enacting Acta De Tejero and Acta de Naic which were both a revolution against their fellow Katipuneros, fought and stopped troops reinforcing the battle at Pasong Santol, ambushed Filipino revolutionaries many times, and tried to arson, pillage and murder the people of Indang? Yes. I'm talking here about Andres Bonifacio, the third Supremo and the first extortionis, politician and terrorist of Phil history. It is shame that this same person was part of the Free Mason that Rizal and Aguinaldo belongs.

If this man could have loved more our country than himself, we could have been a progressive country. If he should have listened to other patriots like Gen. Luna, and allowed to be a subordinate of Bonifacio, we could achieved anything as a Filipino. We can be a stronger nation. That's what other progressive countries has, the confidence that they can achieved anything. The americans, the chinese, the russians, the japanese, et.al. Sadly, most of us no longer has that confidence, because these men started the system in our society to think first of ourselves than our country. Sayang

napanuod ko ang El Presidente, mahilig kasi talaga ako sa history e. nun palang medyo naiinis nako sa kanya, kasi kht iportray na mahusay siya sa movie, kita ko pa din ung pagkawala ng just and fairness, lumalabas pa dn ang tunay na ugali niya to d fact na, pinapaganda n dpat image nia dun, then ng napanuod q heneral Luna, Mas na linawan ako. and my assumptions are true, di ko talaga gusto ang taong ito. Bakit of all people, sa kamay niya pa namatay ( or pinapatay niya, atleast idea pa dn niya) sina Bonifacio at Luna, the two real Great Hero, brave man. Im so glad na may mga ganitong movies ngayon. Sana lang people take time to watch, its worth every second in the movie. :-)

Of course, Aguinaldo commended some mistakes but it is not modest to criticize him and give prejudices just from that. 'Cause he nonetheless did something for the country. Every hero has its bad side. Though I do not consider Aguinaldo a hero, I can assert that he is a great Filipino. Rather than frivolous criticism, you could preferably give constructive criticism. There is no need for more disdain.
