Embracing Hair Loss | Full Head Shave
I've been losing my hair for a while, and during lockdown decided to shave my head with clippers. But I could still see the thin patches of hair, so I decided to try a full razor head shave.
I've known for years that may hair has been thinning around my crown, but in the last 12-18 months I've been noticing it getting thinner and thinner at the front, and receding badly.
During lockdown I cut it with clippers and felt much happier. But after just a few days growth the thinner patches became obvious. While looking for advice and reviews on a daily electric shaver that might be more convenient, I realised that a full razor head shave might be a better option.
Many have commented that I don't "need" to shave my head and that I still have plenty of hair, however I really don't like the way it looks and feel much more comfortable with it shaved. I'm at the stage where I think I look older with hair, especially when combined with the grey patches.
I've been shaving my head for 14 weeks now and haven't looked back. A lot of people have asked what shaving products I used, so here they are:
Wilkinson Sword Safety Razor - amzn.to/33q0vKz
Astra Platinum Razor Blades - amzn.to/2ZxCm3r
Shaving Brush - amzn.to/33qxv5v
Shaving Cream - amzn.to/35uC7dl
After Shave Balm - amzn.to/3bROUrm

0:58 - Considering a razor head shave
1:33 - Making a tough decision
2:23 - Shaving with a DE safety razor

Would you shave your head, or would you consider other solutions to hair loss first?
@tattoodfreeek
3 жыл бұрын
I started losing mine when I was in my early 20s. Took a while for me to get used to it, but now?? If someone offered to pay for a hair transplant, or there was some sort of pill or lotion that would 100% guaranteed make it grow back, I'd stay bald. Like you said about hair being part of our identity, I think being bald is too. And like some guys suit a centre parting or a man bun (shudder to think of it) some of us are incredibly lucky to suit having none. And with the beard, we can go full on viking. Great video

@@tattoodfreeek Thanks mate, that's really good feedback. Right now, if someone could offer me a magic pill I would still take it! But it's great to know how your opinion has changed, and the look becomes part of your "new" identity. I think I need to start growing my beard more to go full Viking! :)

Guys. I'm 18 years old and I'm losing my hair rapidly. I am contemplating shaving it all off. I cut it with some clippers every 3 weeks using the smallest comb (3mm). But it still looks bad. I want to shave it down to skin, but I can't bring myself to do it 😂. Update: I did it. It looks and feels great. 👍👍👍👍

Great mindset! I did the same just a week ago and I feel liberated. No more worrying about the bald patches and how to conceal them. It is truly liberating.
This exactly sums up how I feel about losing my hair and did exactly the same, including sharing picture online to avoid having to explain / justify every time I saw someone 🙏
Looks really good on u. I’m female and shaved my head about 5yrs ago in solidarity for a friend who had breast cancer and was going through chemo. I liked the feeling of the wind blowing on my head and just the freedom I felt with no hair plus all the compliments that I got. Like wow u are so brave. Then I tell them the story of why I’m bald lol and they all say I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. Well long story short my friend is cancer free, her hair grew back, but I decided to keep the bald look lol.

I love girls with a bald look. Do you find that those who like your shaved head REALLY like that your head is shaved? I am the type of guy who wishes more girls were bald, so I'm curious if others like me are out there. How common that is, yknow?
I have always said that if a man starts to lose his hair, just shave it. Worked great for Bruce Willis. Some men, dare I say, even look better that way. Very masculine, as your internet search claimed. Especially if a guy can rock a nice thick beard. You look good! I know it's a scary plunge but good for you for doing it.

I gained all of my confidence back as soon as I shaved my head!
I like it man. I have been shaving bald for 7 yrs now though I started at 28, I feel so confident about my bald self than I used to feel when I had hairstyles. Kudos
I am 30 years old. I wanted to grow my hair out. I used to have a long hair as a teenager and I just loved it. So i decided to grow it back again. But i realized that i am loosing hair. Thats why i looked weird on photos. I never seen it. Did not realized it. I was so sad about it, because even when its not that bad yet, its gonna be worse. Its a fight you will never win. So I shaved it all off. I cant remember when i cried more... Its weird because its only a hair and people strugle bigger problems, so I feel guilty that I am anxious about it. Your video helps me realize that you have to embrace it. It is bald myself from a future and it will come sooner or later if you like it or not. Sooner you embrace it, the better even if its hard. Specialy when your hair was part of your personality. Thank you very much for help!

Great video. My hair loss hit me like a tonne of bricks as I had thinning hair around the crown which I never noticed until a friend told me. It still took me 2 years to accept and eventually start shaving my head and I have never looked back since. Anyone who can't face shaving it off I would advise to do it gradually and embrace the new look. To say it's liberating is an understatement 💇
So I'll be 22 in 3 days and while my hair was thinning I was always so self conscious about it. Like oh no can people see my comb over. Can they tell I'm thinning real bad. But the other day I finally said screw it and shaved my head completely. It instantly felt as amazing. My friends and family loved it. And now I can go into town without the fear of wondering if people can see my hair loss when nothing is there. Bald is beautiful

@LukeSherran

That's quite the compliment, thanks!
Looks phenomenal on you! The only thing I'd personally do is fade in those sideburns, but that is just a preference. I lost my hair fairly quickly. Noticed it at 24 when I got my hair cut from very long to short. It was diffusing on top. I rolled with it for a couple of months because it looked completely normal from the front but it kept bothering me more and more. When I finally had the balls to do it, I ordered clippers from Amazon and had my sister shave it off. As it gradually got thinner over the years (27 now), I went from 3mm to no guard to wet shave. As of right now, it is very sparse on top, so you could say I lost it within like 3.5 years. Haven't really noticed anything before 24, maybe slight corner recession but nothing major. Shaved looks great on me, but I hate it when it grows in and exposes the balding pattern, even if its just two days. I am just waiting for my damn beard to finally come in. My coverage is I'd say very good, but my follicles are so thin in some areas. Really hope I can grow a thick full beard one day like yours and go full viking mode.
@LukeSherran
3 жыл бұрын
Thank mate, I really appreciate it. I agree about the sideburns, I actually graded them after seeing my own video as I didn't like how they looked! Much better now. I understand exactly what you mean about the exposing of the balding pattern in certain lights after just a few days growth. I saw a few photos and videos my wife took of me playing with my kids, and I hated what I saw. That was what pushed me into going with the wet shave. Definitely grow a beard when you can! I still have patches on my beard that aren't great, but I don't it's going to change much now (I'm 38). But I can focus on the style and length where it grows thick. Thanks for watching and commenting mate.

Nice one mate. Embrace the baldness, after all, the only person that notices, is you! I use the 'Skullshaver' Pro, it's been great so far. I use it wet with foam/gel. I've had it about 8 months now and the battery has been brilliant, far better than expected and much better than the reviews. My only reservation at the moment is how often I'll need to replace the blades but to date they're still cutting well?
@LukeSherran
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason - I wish I had spoken to you about it! I looked at the Skullshaver a lot, but I heard mixed reviews and replacing the blades seemed expensive. I may look back into it again. It would definitely help me keep on top of it. You're right though, the main person that notices your hairloss is you.
Lovely video and very encouraging
You're right. Men going bald and shaving it off is accepted. women doing it now seems like a trendy thing. However, women develop bald spots just like men, and we have to decide for ourselves, usually without seeing videos of others having done this before, we end up going into it blindly. As it turns out, I kept the hair on top and buzzed the sides and back. I've gotten several compliments and my alopecia spots have some hairs inside but it's something each individual must decide for themselves. No one else lives with the cut or shave but yourself... great video and you made the right decision. confidence is key...

My hair started thinning since I was 16-18 so I started applying hair gain foams and serums etc... But nothing seemed to really work because it was a genetic thing and the doctor told me that nothing can defy the effect of a genetic baldness pattern but it can be delayed some how and I didn't want to a hair transplant surgery at all. I shaved my hair off when I turned 23 and honestly I felt way more confident and bolder than ever before it such a freeing experience and you don't have to be the most handsome bald man to feel the same way it's just a freeing experience in itself in so many ways.
