How Shaving My Head Changed My Life: Minimalism Revelation | Break the Twitch

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I had an interesting revelation about minimalism after deciding to start shaving my head a few months ago. I thought the idea might be helpful for you on your own minimalism/intentional living journey.
Here's that video I mentioned about why I did this in the first place (and some pretty funny haircuts): • I'm losing my hair. Le...

I was inspired to shave my hair when every time I saw a woman with her head shaved I felt her self confidence and self acceptance. Immediately after shaving my head, (I use a 2 comb and let it grow to a four comb), I was struck by the subtle and not so subtle judgments as people saw me. It took a few weeks to discover that I just didn’t care about their judgement, and they were welcome to it. And that I now walk a little taller and with more self confidence. It’s been several years and I can’t imagine going back.

Well, one could argue that by shaving, you ARE hiding it. As in, hiding your thinning hair or bald spots. The bigger goal is feeling comfortable in your own skin, hair or no hair.

@@malekkos91 Having gone through this, there is another element that you might be missing. I agree that the goal is to just feel comfortable, but the fear is "losing" the hair and what will happen. It's like an anxiety based on the future as much as it is not loving how it looks in the present, perhaps. What I'm finding has happened for me is by shaving it off, I'm "owning" it and realizing that even when it's completely gone, I'm perfectly okay! I actually was pondering on whether it would bother me to grow my hair back now-the step to shave it was basically facing the fear of what happens if I don't have hair. Now that I know it's not a big deal and have embraced it, I think it would generally stay. Just some thoughts.

Great video Anthony. I was the same, I used to be worried about going bald. The idea of losing my hair was like losing this precious family heirloom. But now after a few years of shaving my head, that worry just seems silly to me. It's good to just let go, it's a liberating ritual for me now when I shave my head. BTW that is a sweet guitar.

I can relate in a different way, I was born with curly hair, all my life I have spent so much money on products, or blowing out my hair, my husband always told me I should embrace my curls, well during the pandemic I also decided to stop trying to have straight hair. It has been liberating, funny I have people stopping me telling me how blessed I am to have soft beautiful curls. The best part is my hair doesn’t frizz anymore, once I just let my hair be what God untended I am sure your feeling the same sense of liberation as I am, it’s freeing....

I also shaved my head during the quarantine... I'm in my late twenties and saw a recessing line and just wanted to know how I would look. It's so liberating when you don't need to worry about how your hair looks; You just wake up in the morning, wash your face, and are ready. Shaving once a week is also a cool experience. Feeling my skin like it's some part of me that I never felt before. But after some months, I decided to let my hair grow again because I wanted to try some products and felt a bit lazy shaving every week since I cut my hair twice a year.

Anthony, that is awesome! I keep my hair as a buzz cut. I always shave it to a quarter of an inch. Though it has been completely bald twice. I was like you always thinking about my hair because it is thick and wavy, in a bad way. It would take me 45 minutes everyday to get it to a point where I was comfortable walking outside. Now I don’t think about it. I think I look better because you can actually see my face. Of course, people ask me why it is shaved. A lot of people assume I am a lesbian and I have been asked if I have cancer. And I agree not having all the hair stuff is fantastic. No hairdryer, no hair brush, no, gel, no hair ties. Only my clippers and my Ayurvedic shampoo! 😊

@@smithcoffee8 true but i dont think its a large percentage, being a non responder isn't the norm. And even rarer to not respond to dutasteride, which a doctor would next prescribe someone. And even failing that, there's a whole other list of anti-androgens to try like ru55841, fluridil, alfatradiol. My point being that so many people aren't educated in what causes hairloss and how it can be easily prevented in a lot of cases, it would help a lot of people suffering in silence who don't want to go bald in their 20's or 30's and save a lot of peoples mental health.

I started getting grey hair in high school. Receding hairline since my late 20s. Been shaving my head for a long time now (I'm 47). To me, keeping it short/shaved it makes me look younger. I rarely actually shave my head unless I need to dress up. Shaving is too much work because if you don't shave it every other day, it gets too long to shave with an electric razor.. Maybe a day or two more and you can no longer do it very well with a Bic without first trimming it down via other means. So now it's twice the work. So what I end up doing is every week..or up to two weeks, I buzz my head and face with a good quality electric trimmer, and that's it..no shaving. And not with any of those fancy manscaping trimmers.. just the old school metal "buzzers" you find at barber shops. It leaves a '5 o clock shadow' but doesn't take long and I'm good for another week or two. Minimal. TBH, your hair was not bad at all. But if it makes you feel better about yourself, then by all means. I say shave the beard off too. :)

I personally also think its just so much more flexible. Less time in the shower, and its so much more comfy in summer days aswell. WIth hair you ll get sweaty and it starts to look bad. But bald, you can legit just pour some cold water over your head anywhere you are to get refreshed again and you dont need to worry about the hair drying again or anything like that. I also think bald feels much better while sleeping somehow, a bald head on a pillow feels different than having hair everywhere.

I did it years ago and now have a full head of hair. Yes hair transplants are forever. Minimalist? You call having to shave your head EVERY day being a minimalist? Honestly in this video it sounds like you are trying to convince yourself more than the audience.
