I am so glad she did ❤️ it’s so weird really how toys get gender based. I wanted match box cars and robots as a child and got very few of them. It does seem that girls are indulged more usually with boy or girl toys. There is much disparity but we make up for when we are adults. 🤩 Ironically now I collect dolls and teddy bears and few robots lol

Thank you Rachael for asking Christopher to share and thank you Christopher for showing us part of your heart. I never had Barbie as a kid either but we did have a Skipper and other dolls, so in that way our stories are very different. I grew up in a very unhappy atmosphere, so any doll I had was a comfort. It is with deep mercy and respect that I enjoyed listening to how you feel and your perspective.

Yes, I was nodding quite a bit as I listened to Christopher. I got my first Barbie doll in 1964 and she was my "companion" as I imagined stories connected to her many outfits. I have absolutely positive feelings towards her and the positive impact that she had on my life (which as a child, was not particularly happy childhood). Barbie led me to sewing (first for her, then for me) and for many years I had to put her aside to hold down a job, have a family etc. I am now in my late 60's and can now let Barbie again take centre stage in my life. I have been able to buy reproductions of the outfits that I never got as a child (but used to look at in the booklets and dream about!). The Silkstones were also beautiful and I have lots of them, as the workmanship on the clothes are as good as the workmanship on the early Barbie outfits. (I still have my original 1960's outfits, but they have been very played with and would not be worth much - but I would never sell them anyway). Sometimes I look at them and am taken back to my childhood and the wonderful memories that Barbie gave me. Thank you again Christopher, for letting me know that I am not the only "Crazy" Barbie fan out there.

Hello Christopher, I was born in 1953 and didn't get my first Barbie doll until I was 12. Mom thought they were too voluptuous for small children. She bought me the bubble-haired straight-legged Barbie and Allan. (He was much better looking than Ken) And knowing the creator had named Barbie and Ken after her own children, Mom🥰 just couldn't let them be boyfriend and girlfriend. Even though my friends had all grown out of Barbie, I still loved them. I actually never grew out of dolls, of any kind. I'm really glad that you see the beauty in the clothes and makeup that she has

Christopher , I want to thank you for re - kindling my love for Barbie. I’m a very late start doll collector. I had the entire Barbie family as a child ( mid 1960s ) but grew up and never really had much interest in dolls even back then. When Covid hit the planet and I finally accepted there would be no Christmas gatherings , I felt so sad. I told my husband we were still going to decorate. After the tree , etc , late one night I thought that if we had a few miniature people , that would help. I searched Amazon and found a few earlier Holiday Barbies wearing gowns from several countries - nothing fancy or expensive. When I opened those boxes and placed these gorgeous ladies on the mantle , it was Christmas! Just like that , Beautiful Barbie restored the magic. I’ve gotten quite a few dolls in various brands since that Christmas. In fact , I thought I was finished with Barbie. Experiencing your joy of Barbie re ignited mine. I now realize that I can still have “new doll excitement” when I need a fix without breaking the bank , needing more shelves. The tiny lady is affordable and always beautiful. In fact , three Barbie Movie dolls just arrived and I am overjoyed. Barbie saves the day. And yes , we are all crazy in a delightful way. 💞

Hello Rachel and Christopher! I really enjoyed listening to you, Christopher and I have from the start. I congratulate you on your full time status with Rachel and am looking forward to more from you! My younger son loved Barbies and I loved playing Barbies with him. He made the choice to stop playing with them and that was fine. For me as his mother seeing him make choices that made him happy was what mattered. So then we played Matchbox cars and Legos. Barbie wasn't my first fashion doll, but she meant so much to me because all the girls at school had one or more and it made me feel like I fit in. I spent my allowance to buy her clothes and shoes and built up quite a collection just as a little girl. I had the Barbie in the 60's with the black and white striped strapless bathing suit, blue eyeshadow and solid plastic "eyelashes" and blonde hair. Dolls and designing and sewing for them was everything to me. They were my refuge, my joy, my heaven. Still are today.

I really wanted miniature dolls; the smaller the better, and all the accessories. If a doll didn't come with many accessories, I made them. Thanks for sharing your memories! I grew up with the 60s and early 70s Barbies. My sisters and friends and I would sometimes have all night Barbie games. Our Barbies played all kinds of roles, good and bad. The wigged Fashion Queen doll was a favorite because you could either make her have multiple personalities or make her be 3 different people depending on what wig she wore. I think that a Barbie personality would be different for different people. I think when we play, she can be whatever you want her to be.

Thank you Christopher. Did you make your vest? I have that Barbie fabric. Everyone wore blue eye shadow when I was a tween. I think Barbie portrays a lot of real fashion decades. I think too many kids are not really interested in toys but are playing phone video games and I think it is a distraction from being a kid. I have some Barbies again. Frieda Kahlo was first as an adult then saw vintage reproductions of Fashion designer Barbie and Fashion model Barbie then some Mackey Barbies. Then I had to have my first Barbie I had as a kid which was Midge. Vintage Midge with red hair tan skin and brown eyes like mine. I haven't gotten talking PJ who was the only one my mom bought me I think. Maybe someday. My mom's name was Barbara and she wore her cat glasses and was fashionable and was a real Barbie. Miss her.

Thank you so much for doing this! I stumbled upon your videos and am now hooked. Your love for Dolls and your shop is so present in all of this. I grew up with Barbie, she's a year older than me. I watched Barbie from afar as I so wanted to have some (there's another story around that for another time) and had opportunities to play with friends and all the wonderful accessories that came with her. I was fortunate to have Ricky, and Ken. I lost those in a basement flood, but have always wanted to replace them. In the late 90s when Mattel started doing Repros, I feel in love with Some Enchanted Evening, she started my adult collection. I went to eBay to acquire some Skipper, Skooter and Ricky dolls to add. As a girl, I was allowed to play with dolls, Barbie in specific. However, I think what sent me on my doll collecting journey is my family would buy "collector" dolls for me such as Madame Alexander and they were put on a shelf and I couldn't play with them. As an adult doll collector, I bought many an Alexander doll and many others that I could play with if I wanted to. Ha. Christopher, being male, and not allowed to have dolls resonated with me in that way although I'm sure it was probably harder for him. Loved his perspective!

Thank you for sharing your personal experience with doll collecting! It's interesting how our childhood experiences can shape our collecting journey. It sounds like the allure of the "collector" dolls on the shelf, yet being unable to play with them, sparked your desire to collect dolls that you could fully enjoy and play with as an adult. Christopher's perspective as a male collector and his experiences resonated with you, highlighting the common thread of navigating societal expectations and finding empowerment through doll collecting. Dolls heal. Interesting. I saw an interview wuth Dr Ruth where she was playing with dollhouses. She grew up in a time of conflict and i think as children, that sense of not being in control, it makes us long to be in control of something, anything. Some collect dolls, some have eating disorders, some cope in different ways. Doll collecting isn't the worst thing.

Barbie was everything I wanted to be as child but because I was raised a boy people made me feel wrong for loving her. Now I’m a 22 year old trans woman who completely embraces Barbie and I can’t imagine not having her in my life. Happy Pride y’all🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️💗

Great show. More show with dolls and reference books. I have a small collection of reference books. I have quite a few sewing for dolls books and patterns plus my own designs. I just ordered a Barbie reference book. Like I need another book. I recently got a Bob Mackie doll and a Christmas coming. Some of my favorite Barbies are from Avon in the 90s. I have to have Wendy help me...I tried to register for the VDC it won't process. Stay well and safe

Thank you for your feedback and sharing your excitement about dolls and reference books! It's wonderful to hear that you have a collection of reference books that enhance your doll collecting journey. Sewing for dolls books and patterns, along with your own designs, must be a great resource for creating unique outfits for your dolls. Congratulations on your new Barbie reference book, even if it means adding another book to your collection!

So so enjoyed this...Love that Christopher can talk about how barbie was forbidden... if just one mom or dad out there can here, truely here...how hurtful that can feel and let her child have the doll they want today and this can change one little boys life for good... hope I explained that right... I so enjoy your videos ❤ crazy barbie lady ., hugs

Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your thoughts. It's truly powerful when someone like Christopher opens up about their personal experiences and how it relates to the world of dolls. Understanding the impact of certain restrictions and the importance of allowing children to embrace their interests and passions, regardless of gender norms, can indeed have a positive and transformative effect on a child's life. By highlighting these stories and experiences, we hope to create awareness and foster a more inclusive and accepting environment where all children can freely enjoy the dolls they love. Your sentiment is beautifully expressed, and it's heartwarming to know that our videos resonate with you. Keep enjoying your doll collecting journey, and may it continue to bring you joy and happiness. Thank you for your support, and sending hugs back to you, fellow doll enthusiast!

I am not gay and I am not a man, but I LOVE Barbie as much as Christopher does💖💖💖💖💖 and I really LOVE how Christopher describes the Barbie Dolls💯💯💯💯💯 as much as how he styles the Robert Tonner Dolls💖💖💖💖!! I still have my Kissing Barbie, Malibu Barbie from my Childhood as well as a Brooke Shields Doll and a Barbie Doll I bought at a Flea Market that has a long pink gown with pink triangle earrings with beautiful long blonde curly hair💖💖💖💖💖!! And some day, I would like to get a Ken Doll from the 1970s with the blonde plastic hair because as a Child I thought he was handsome and never was given a Ken Doll😢. And Christopher, I really LOVE your Barbie Locket🤗🤗💖💖💖💖💖!!! Rachel and Christopher I so LOVE your matching Barbie vests😃😃💖💖💖💖💖!!! And Rachel, Christopher is very artist and talented as well as he really explains in a fun way all of the Barbie Doll features and the different Barbie Dolls😃😃💯💯💯💯💯!!!

I’m wondering how old Christopher was when he was discouraged from Barbies. I’m sitting here thinking that I discouraged Barbie from my daughters when they were little. It was because I was so concerned my small dog would eat the shoes and create a big vet bill and I knew the parts would never stay together. The Barbies rolled in anyway for Birthday gifts and the dog survived. If they wanted to collect when they were older or as adult collectors, it wouldn’t occur to me to stop them. It is possible that Christopher’s Mom was just not excited by the multiple parts and adult look of the Barbie industry. I like dolls a lot and if my son stated he wanted a doll, I’d be thrilled but would also not want a small boy to have Barbie. Loved hearing Christopher’s thoughts.

A lot of it had to do with his family dynamic and his father not embracing his feminine traits. We see this VERY often with young male collectors. We hope by sharing that it highlights an issue that many young male collectors can relate to, and by discussing it openly, we can help create a more inclusive and accepting community
