This touches on a subject matter that's intrigued me my entire life. Uniqueness in individual is in each and every one of us, if you're willing to not play follow the leader. That's exactly my reason as why not get yourself so indebted to the educational system, not only in America but throughout the world. An individual the I followed in my life was a person by the name of Paul Robeson, an African American who not only played a part in society in 1917, he was an all American football player at Rutgers university during that period, got himself a law license even though he wasn't allowed to practice law himself. America, has documents that promise the moon, you just have to find your nitch and see what acceptable for you, the individual.

I think one of the most difficult parts about the "third door" is that it does matter "who" you are. Taken literally, if you're a person of color, diabled, female, there are third doors that if you try to sneak through could land you in jail or dead... whereas affluent, more advantaged people can skate by. Absolutely right that the third door exists for everyone... but when you fail to sneak through, and the window closes on you, for some people it's crushing. That's a societal issue... and it takes a long time to change it.

Society celebrates success in hindsight, by when the path of the successful becomes commodified. What remains is an attempt at simulating the path, expecting the same results. Also, no one gets an award for business as usual stuff -😊 mother, father, accountant, government employee, or garbage collector.

This reminds me of something else I’ve heard on the internet. The most successful are less intelligent bc they can’t manage risk. They go through the kitchen and risk everything for an unknown reward. Most just get arrested.

This is all literally "ikigai" in its truest sense - not the made up, pro-capitalist Venn diagram version that's often presented and is based on what's "profitable" and culturally defined as what "success" looks like in such a Westernized sense. All of these things mentioned in this video are part of what ikigai really means...

Lower Mississippi offers little advantages, later in more life threatening problems I learned you must try to think your way out of life's engine failures. Most Americans think they have difficult circumstances in their lives. Have you ever been overseas? Those [people understand difficulty.

@NP Loda that's the thing with being optimistic. You usually over estimate your abilities. Pessimists are usually right and optimists are usually wrong but all the great changes have been accomplished by optimists.

I understand how the phrase “Dark Horse” applies to this video though I never heard it used in this way. Thanks for making it. I will try to incorporate it into future experience. Exactly, the meaning of the phrase depends on what the general public thinks, i dont give a flying F about this research, a Dark Horse is basically a "loser" (percieved by most people as a loser) succeding, period.

What is success? To me success would be owning a land with some livestock and some crops and my family and I tend to the animal and the land to survive and live. Not that complicated but civilizations authorizes greed for power and they understand they can’t do it alone so they use us as soon as we are born we given a number not a name a number to keep us in their system.

Oh dear - i do like this channel because of the many scientists but this one in particular, was so full of - i don’t know how to say it politely - 😊. Go back - to the bit about optimism.. really you don’t think Hitler was optimistic? Like - science has nothing to do with winning a war? Like there are just wayyyy to many variables? Nope. Optimism is a nice to have mindset, and you can practice gratitude to foster it. But it is not some sure fire way to success. There are simply too many variables - place, institutions, genes, opportunities (yes luck) and the rest. And, the last speaker? What about all the people that tried so hard, did all the ‘right’ things and yet still did not achieve their goals? Life is complex and as I recognise complexity and chaos as the drivers of change - i feel happy. I am where I need to be. Being a ‘dark horse’ is just a construction to describe the people who ended up in unusual social positions. It’s not something to strive for.. Oh, and Spielberg - think about his lucky break.. (also he is neurodivergent) and how many others tried the same - but nothing eventuated… These are just ideological and interesting (i grant you that) narratives that capture an audience - they don’t reveal any truths about the path to success.

This is cute but not logical , we all cannot be this way , as life work by its diversity nothing would move , everything would become sterile people need to fail to gain wisdom , be sad to appreciate joy , follow blindly to eventually see .

I couldn't imagine reference either one of these jokers and think any of it is legit. The American mind is always looking for heros and then they get caught in all these traps. So sad and pathetic to fall for these actors. These guys are meant to catch people with room temperature IQs.

This is way overgeneralised information. I'm pretty sure lots of people who lost wars still thought they would win them, look at Putin today for example. Did he see the future of his actions forcing most nations to support Ukraine? Would he have done this if he knew it then?

Seems both sides would/could have a positive outlook when it comes to war. Still one or the other not being victorious, them having to accept defeat, some never accepting it.

I've often thought of Neil deGrasse Tyson as a dark jackass but not a dark horse. Interesting.

​@The Well basically, I think the video is about doing what you enjoy because when you don't do what you enjoy, you won't be able to handle all of the constant rejections and failures but if you're truly doing what you like, you'll ignore a lot of the rejections, failures and pain that come inbetween you and what you enjoy.
