Embodied learning | Camille Litalien | TEDxUSU
Through the immediacy of the sensing body and our own capacity to feel, we unravel the stories that want to be told. Everything substantial I have ever learned, I learned through being in my body. Embodiment as a sensual approach to feeling the world in and around me, falling in love with it, becoming curious and childlike with it. Embodiment also as a state of embrace in which one can journey through the landscapes of the body mind, and (re)discover the stories, memories, emotions stored and hidden in the deeper tissues of the body. This discovery state is an embodied learning state in which transformation becomes possible. Camille’s work as a dancer and student of Yoga deeply informs her current research process in the field of ‘Embodied Learning’. Heavily rooted in a sensuous exploration of early embryological development, her explorations of somatic patterning serve as a stepping stone to develop embodied self-knowledge. More than an objectified research, her work rather lives in a continuous process of exploration, within the somatic field of human consciousness. I’ve been looking for someone who could put into words the meaning of “embodiment.” Camille unfolds it in a way that my brain completely understands and resonates to.

Seems that a few commenters below are stuck in their heads, continually just seeking information as it appeals to the mind. This is one of the best TED talks I've ever seen, as it challenges us to tap into the feminine, previously scorned and rejected as "inadequate". She invites us to tap into one of the greatest sources of wisdom - our natural senses - for the healing, connection, and true "mindfulness" many of us seek.

Actually, there is nothing inherently "feminine" about embodiment - that perhaps betrays how you are stuck in your own sexism and bigotry. And as a practitioner of physical theatre, martial arts, movement, and breath for twenty years, in other words someone who's been exploring embodiment for a long time, I totally agree with the critical comments - the lady is vaccuously rambling on in a way that is exhibitionistic, self indulgent, and narcissistic. She makes zero sense.

Perhaps it says something about both of your alignments to movement and how each of you rather views bodymind differently, not to mention your differing values? My question is: in addition to what you've just described, where else do you feel (I was going to say 'see', lol) resonance in her work?

@@arkamukhopadhyay9111 I know what you mean, but you are being too harsh really. She definitely makes some sense, not 0. And the thing with these people is that they are not speaking the same language as most people speak in the present science-dominated modern world. They have a vocabulary of their own, so there's a lot of truth in their words that we won't understand until we learn their language and vocabulary. But yea, I get why some might say embodiment is feminine, but that's just a connection we are making on what actually is. In reality it's just embodiment and both, masculine-leaning and feminine-leaning people can utilize it. Usually the feminine is associated with feelings and embodiment is very much about feelings. So I get why the op said what they said.
There is difference between wisdom and information. Those looking for information will not find it here but wisdom .

It's funny to see the comments that say she hasn't said anything in her talk. It does take an initial interest on embodiment and somatic movement to understand and appreciate what she says. If you want to learn more, I urge you to check out Mary Bond's The New Rules of Posture

Much of what she is saying is speaking to me deeply. Regrettably too few of us now have access to such uncorrupted nature in which to "revisit early developmental patterns." I imagine this, however, to be capitalism and neoliberalism's design, just as Marx outlined nearly two centuries ago.
Thanks for publishing/sharing Camille's speech. I am interested in her (sensual)work and trying to get into touch with her.

her talk was an empty bla-bla, all that superficial all-the-same that many talk & talk about. Nothing concrete- Not meaning she DOES nothing concrete - YET I can not figure out WHAT that concrete is listening to her.
