LYRICS:
Embers Rise (Gavin Dunne 2018)
I’ve walked the coiling lines
Set back a hundred times
Winding through worlds of weary kings
(Once more to the first)
Another crumbling hall
Another humbling fall
Once more the mourning bells will ring
But I won’t be kept down
I’ll just keep on rising
Failure ever fading
Growth in every pain
I won’t be kept down
Embers keep igniting
Suns will sink to shade
But always rise again
I’ve been a ghost of flame
A fading fire to claim
Lost in a world of aching shame
But I won’t be kept down
I’ll just keep on rising
Failure ever fading
Growth in every pain
I won’t be kept down
Embers keep igniting
Suns will sink to shade
But always rise again
Look to the sun
Hollow is the curse
Now the end has begun
Once more to the first
Look to the sun
Hollow is the curse
Beaten back, overrun
But I won’t be kept down
I’ll just keep on rising
Failure ever fading
Growth in every pain
I won’t be kept down
Embers keep igniting
Suns will sink to shade
But always rise again

Hey Sound Bites! These game/movie/TV inspired songs that I make often have personal meanings in the lyrics. I love the themes of hope & perseverance in the Dark Souls series and I can really relate to the idea of always coming back & fighting harder every time you get knocked back, defeated or disappointed (It's how Miracle Of Sound happened, after all!). Using your failures as a learning tool is so very relevant to real life. Enjoy the song, please share it if you like it and don't forget you can support me on Patreon to keep me doing music as my job!! www.patreon.com/miracleofsound Big luv

This song is great, i thought about some tradicional celtic songs that may be really inspiring for your incoming pieces: -Rocky Road to Dublín -Tri Martolod -Scarborough Fair -O son do ar -Valley of myths (its a much more actual song) -etc Your art is awesome and It really shows a unique esence, i think this list could help you to empower your artistic works in the future (or not, Who knows xD) in both cases, i always enjoy your songs while waiting for the next one Greetings :D

This song helped me through the darkest time in my life, I had been involved in a shooting that resulted in me getting a large portion of my knee needing surgery so as a result I was bedridden and couldn't even move my leg for months; in that time I had been replaying the whole situation over and over again in my head because that's all my paranoid mind could think of, trying to see if I could have done something thing differently but to me it all ended the same and I fell into a deep depression not wanting to talk to anyone for days at a time just tormenting myself with thought of wanting to kill myself because I had the idea that even if I fully recovered my life, my dreams and aspirations where shattered before me. But then I heard this song that had awoken something in me, the idea that no matter what life throws at you you have to get up and not lose hope because if you do then you become hollow. As of me posting this comment I have been better, I can walk and somewhat run without the need of a walker or cane and overall my outlook on life is much better.

This song almost perfectly encapsulates my feelings of the story and message of the _SoulsBorne_ games: the world is unfair, uncaring, unforgiving, unfeeling, and miserable. It wants nothing more than to shove you in a corner and kick you in the teeth. Even if you beat it back, it will return to beat you down again at a later date. You just need to learn to disregard the pain, get back up, and kick life back twice as hard. Do not give up. Do not give in. Do not be dehumanized. Do not let your will be broken. Fight back the darkness and the pain and the sorrow. You will fail countless times, but failure is inevitable, even for the best of us. Each failure is simply a new stepping stone on the road of life, and you need to move past them. Failure is not the end. The end is when you give up, lose all hope, and go hollow. So for the love of God, the Dragonbard, and the Gloriously Incandescent Sun, do not go hollow. Thank you, Gav, for this amazing song.

I must have listened to Forever Flame 100s of times, because it has the same message. I have the same worldview, and you put it wonderfully. The world is full of suffering. Complaining about it won't do anything but cause more suffering, so you're left with 2 options. Accept the suffering, or endlessly beat it back until you accomplish the impossible, and win.

I was taken back by just how much emotion and intensity this song had. The tempo was not too slow or too fast which worked fantastically in this setting. I love the idea of how instead of your voice being used to act as the crescendo, the instruments created the dramatic shift instead. Its hauntingly dark while also being alluring and beautiful. The footage chosen was without a doubt perfection to the max because it only increased the emotion behind the lyrics and kept me on the edge wondering how this story would end with the song!!! As the video neared the end my heart kept pounding from the beautiful imagery of chaos and war, while also giving insight to the struggle this person is going through after experiencing such horrors of war. Absolutely stunning!!!

I love the fact that the call back that originated from a song about the many deaths of the player shows up first in a song about the futility of the cycle in Dark Souls, then in a song about rising up from the beatings, defeats and despair to conquer the challenges that await the player. It like you’ve moved on from your many deaths to claim your fate to link the flame or to rise as the dark lord. Truly a masterpiece.

This game got me through a really rough patch recently. It taught me the value of courage. I'm really glad I played it and guys, if any of you have been wanting too but weren't sure. It's not nearly as hard as people make it out to being. You have to change your entire dynamic when playing it, but once you understand the dance the game is teaching you, once you learn to go with the flow of the game, the enemies, the traps, you get a feel for the world and you slowly but surely become the Master of the world. Of course, even the Master can fall. The game is incredibly good at reminding you not to get too cocky, that Death awaits around every corner. But ultimately, you can overcome. You can win. You WILL, win. God speed.

@Ryan Dunham In the simplest way, I woke up to find that the world is sleeping. That we are living a dream. That most people are in this, mental matrix. Where they are...Trapped, by ideas. They believe things and by believing those things to be TRUE, they reject any notion to the contrary. It creates a truly painful prison, because they start to see reality as a Dead thing, something that remains the same for all time. Then when that thing changes, they find themselves lost, because reality is "Dead" afterall and dead things don't change. I lost a lot of friends, I lost a lot of things. I gained so much more than I lost though. I can see where others are blind. I understand that regardless of whether 1 or 1 million tell me I'm wrong, I know what I know. That no one has a right to dictate to me MY life and MY existence. Take this pandemic. All the fears over wearing masks, meanwhile OSHA has set forth standards for what Masks can and can't protect you against, but all that knowledge is ignored because it's inconvenient. Mental Prison. Surgeons undergo strict training to not fuck with the masks integrity, while some Governors say "Even a bound up T-shirt is better than no mask". There isn't an ounce of reasoning in play just a bunch of reactionary BS. Most people are sleeping, they only appear to be awake. If pressed, they've hardly had an original thought in their lifetime. That's not to say I consider myself above anyone, I really don't. I just can't stand idly by with the BS that has transpired. That's what I ultimately woke up too, my own inner power.

I love the ending of this song. Most of this piece is a somber but life-affirming tune about lifting yourself up from pain and the inner strength you have that makes it possible... And then the chords from "You Died" end the whole thing, reminding you that everything remains a cruel joke with you as the clown, with more pain where that came from. I mean it seriously when I say that that is a very true, if grim take on what battling pain or depression is like. Just because you've resolved to endure it doesn't make it any less painful and difficult. That really reflects how I felt about my depression back then after I found the strength to challenge it. Not "I can do this, yay!", more "This is gonna suck, but... Let's do this.".

This song got me through a rough patch quite recently, actually. My now-ex girlfriend (who was very abusive, both emotionally and physically. I just didn't know how bad until we broke up) dumped me for my best friend. I was devastated. I took up drugs, drank myself stupid, and didn't even bother eating. Then I found this song, and it showed me that life's going to shove you into the dirt. Life's going to kick your head in. You're going to be pushed around and stepped on until you want nothing more than to end it all. But I'm so glad I found this artist. These songs. They mean something. Don't think they're only for gaming. These songs teach you some meaningful shit.

But i think Videogames as every artform can have the effect in general. Because this song motivated me to pick up dark souls again, which let you experience the message in fist hand. Also a few years ago, I really strugled with a extreme lack of self-confidence due to various reasons, and playing celeste, where the protagonist needed to overcome similar struggles, which are reflected due to gameplay helped me alot to get better. I think thats the blessing of almost every artform, that it can help you in real life. I belive, it can help equaly the artists and the audience. Have a great day and I love your name

CD Projekt Red better add City of Night, or whatever new song about Cyberpunk you might end up making, into Cyberpunk 2077. Oh god, I can imagine a cyborg like Gavin inside of the hottest venue controlling Gavin Androids real-time through long fiber optic cables that play their own instruments. There could be this mission in which you have to find a replacement android for Cyborg Gav's not-so one man band. I still have that message you sent me when I was going through a rough time almost 4 years ago. I saved on about every device I could just so I never lose it. You didn't even have to do it, you could have just liked my comment and said thanks, but instead you went out of your way and wrote one of the most genuine words of encouragement I've ever received. Not for publicity or to seem like a Saint, which you totally fucking are, but just to help me out, encourage me to keep going. Its hard to believe at times that I've grown up listening to your music since a kid. Seeing it evolve, and especially seeing you grow, is something I wouldn't ever trade. All this because I just HAD TO know the song Thunder used for his Chopper Gunner song. I'll keep recommending and singing along to your music no matter what, Gav. Thanks for having such a positive impact in my life.

Gav, since the song for Dark Souls 2, I've been *aching* for you to revisit the first Dark Souls. The first song is great, but didn't match the contemplative tone of the later ones and played with the 'you died!' angle that so many people were running with at the time that also didn't really capture what dying *meant* to Dark Souls. Your later songs do, and I'm glad the remaster gave you an opportunity to bring that back to DS1, and that you had interest in another DS song after making *five* of them and a Bloodborne song. And at least one collab I hadn't noticed yet. Nice! Now time for me to shove all 4 of those DS songs into a playlist and just start listening. Possibly while I finally finish up my playthrough of DS3......

I was anxious from wrestling with a graduate degree that should have been done three years ago, my family is still wrestling with the legal and financial loose ends from my grandmother's death, my other grandmother is starting to show signs of dementia, and one of my friends is dealing with a messy divorce and a suicidal father. Listening to this just reminds me that sometimes, you just have to square your shoulders, stand back up, and (as my friend would say) punch life in the giblets!
