But she was 19 and in love, and he didnt give her a chance to make good choices for herself bc he knEW she didnt really know what was going on. he just hid it from her as he introed her to camilla and her hubby as "good freinds". @YTchannel excuse me lmao he COURTED her, he showed interest and he pursued her. she was just a goddamn child, i don't know of any person in her position who would have turned down THE prince. she wanted fame, so what? she was still a lady beforehand and she was loved prior to this mess. not to mention how she did try to make the marriage work but charles dismissed her the moment she'd fulfilled her duty of bringing to life an heir and a spare. she had every reason to go mad and to cling to being popular, it was the only thing that validated her. she was also depressed and bullimic! he was the adult, king-to-be, and him and his family of imperialist inbreds should have known better than to taunt a girl who thought she had nothing with everything.

BH, Why don't you listen and watch? The question was asked to Diana. Charles looked at her, smiling and encouraging, waiting for her answer. She shrugs, purses her lips, looks embarrassed, fails to meet his eye, and mutters "Yes of course!" in an irritabl voice as if the interviewer is an idiot. She later said that the interviewer was an idiot. (NOTE: you will NEVER here Diana say a nice thing about ANYBODY,.) Charles has been trying to protect her from difficult questions... so he tries AGAIN..... He looks from her to the interviewer and says "Whatever IN love means...." Note, he doesn't say "Whatever LOVE means?" He is trying to save Diana who looks RIIiCULOUSLY embarrassed at the question, and has shrugged and grimaced and ducked her head, and mumbled for the entire interview. LIKE A FIVE YEAR OLD. CHarles' question was the sort of question that a man with a degree n English Literature might ask. If you DON'T have a degree in English Lit, then you probably don't understand his meaning. Most people do not, and that includes Diana.

I've revisited Prince Charles' "whatever love is comment" and I now genuinely think he really didn't know what love was. Growing up in a dysfunctional family where affection was likely nonexistent and your entire purpose is to produce heirs, it's no wonder he said that. I grew up in a home where my parents hugged, kissed me and told me they loved me and yeah, I went through that period of...."noooo mom and dad, I'm in high school, you don't have to kiss me and hug me.....but now as an adult I can appreciate it because it showed me what love is. The stuff that Diana has said about Charles' behavior toward her....how cold and unsupportive he was is certainly characteristic of someone who grew up in a narcissistic environment.

Thought this was made up in The Crown since it was too weird

The most adorable expression on Diana's face from 01:11-01:12. She takes a deep breath and looks sideways shyly, as though unsure of herself and what she just said. She smiles that smile as though there's a secret only she knows. She looks naughty and innocent, playful and eager. And I can see how easy it would've been to play her. She seems on the mental age where, after a hundred insults, she'll forgive you for one ordinary act of kindness or word of praise. Charles used her naïve aloofness to use her, to the point when he broke her beyond repair. Poor Diana. We still remember you. Rest in peace.

I remember this at the time I was same age as Diana, 19 and remember thinking that was an odd comment back then thought maybe he was joking!

He was trying to make a joke, and he fell flat on his face. Of course, he KNEW what "love meant" because Camilla was always his great love from the time they met in the early 1970s.

I feel terrible for Princess Diana, she was a sweetheart, Charles never deserved her.. But he in his own right, didn't love her.. He loved Camilla.. But because he was next in line to the throne he needed to marry someone who the people would accept and also his family expected of him.. Its sad.. He clearly isn't in love with Diana, we all know how this played out.. So sad!

More sad than excited tbh I'm kind of glad she can't see it cos she would have to relive her horrible memories if she saw it. Ofc its sad she died but if she lived the paparazzi would never leave her alone and series like the crown would bring up every awful experience she had over and over

2:25 Charles embarassed? I doubt that he thinks he did a thing wrong - so why would he be embarassed. If even a shred of this is true, it is uncomfortable to think of how pompous and calculating Charles & Camilla are. "Now he knows what love is." Not so, because he knew what love was well before Diana, just spineless enough not to treat Diana with respect and to torture her emotionally.

It is now said that Diana has said she was "traumatized" by Charles's infamous "in love" comment. Charles only married Diana to get his father off his back about not being married--he has also said he didn't really know anything much about Diana--why this wedding even happened is a mystery

What a catastrophic mismatch. Charles was looking for a nurturing mother figure, to fill in the void from his childhood left by a mother who reportedly was detached and indifferent and unavailable. He wasn't a grown-up. So what does he do? He hooks up with a beautiful but badly damaged young girl - whom he didn't love - who was looking for a strong, guiding father figure. A marriage from hell. But the blame is more on him, to my thinking. He was older, should have known better, and had no business marrying a trusting, naive, romantic girl whom he never loved. What a betrayal. I hope all this has given him at least a few sleepless nights of guilt and remorse. And how did he explain what he did to Wills and Harry, who adored their mother?

Charles did what he was told, and when the Queen told him to marry Diana he did it. He wanted to marry Camilla THEN but she was good enough for the future King, according to the Queen, so he had to pick Diana.

I feel for Diana, I really do, but come on, why all those nasty comments about his appearance and that he "will not get better than that cause she is gorgeus"? She was a lovely, lively person and he hurt her that is why he should be criticised not cause he is less cute than she is.

Love's a bitch! You value this sentence after seeing a not - very - attractive man being cold to one of the most sweetest and cutest girls ever, for his love to a not - very - attractive woman. Lady Di was a true queen of our hearts.

I havent finished season 4 yet,still on the 5th episode.I dont know yet if it has already been advertised what's in store for season 5, but I would really love to see more of Diana's story,a more detailed one.

I'm honestly frustrated with Camilla and Charles! They should've just got flipping married in the first place!! I feel so bad for Dianna, she doesn't deserve to be put in the middle of their stupid complicated relationship!!

Very similar situation with my ex, he was way older than me and he said he wasn't in love with me, and much worse things than that as time went on, and my then friends said I was way too lovely and young for him and that he was jealous of me, but sadly I didn't listen and made a complete mess of my life. Oddly enough he had the same first name as well as the now King. Like him he'd criticise my appearance and weight (I'm 8st 5) as Prince Charles did with Diana. Nothing I did was any good and I was ugly, stupid and like a witch etc. Poor Diana was way too attractive, sweet and fun for him, he's much better suited to Camilla, and it's a very cringy and callous thing for him to say. I can't stomach him at all, she was such a charming breath of fresh air and did so much good work for charity too.

What ppl don’t get here is that this was a declaration of loyalty for Camilla that he did not love Diana. Camilla would be watching so he did not want her to see him saying he loved another woman whom he admitted he never loved and was wholly oblivious to what was really going on. An older woman would have figured it out. Poor Diana did not deserve this - no woman deserves this.

Prince Charles is always misquoted. He said... _"Whatever_ *_in love_* _means."_ *Shame on the journalists who get that wrong!* Very unprofessional! To love or be loved, but *in* love? Not even I know what that means.

Still a stupid thing to say to an interviewer right after your fiancee says "of course." He was probably thinking he didn't want Camilla to feel bad when she saw the interview. Despite Camilla already been married at the time, he should have had the courage NOT to marry a woman he wasn't in love with just because she fit the right mould.

My God he really said that jeez. I watched the crown and then came here to see if he really was such a brick about having to marry her. She deserved so much better. She was too much of everything for him

Believe it or not, there are people who cannot love. Because, it means they have to make space for someone else, and give voluntary control to the beloved one. At least he was honest, late, but honest

I wonder how many years did they sorta clanked about this subject.

That's it right there! That's the line that should have made her run and everyone else support the annulment of that forced engagement!

I knew the moment he uttered those insensitive but TRUTHFUL words "whatever love means'..he was thinking of CAMILA!!! It all went downhill from there because Diana like any other red blooded woman, was internally shattered that THE love of her life, couldn't give a shit about HER feelings and told the WORLD so with those stupid ignorant and insensitive words...ughhh

HONESTLY DIANA DESERVED BETTER

As much as i feel sad for Diana, I feel Charles was pressurised to marry someone the Queen approved of. Charles was always in love with Camilla but was already heart broken and trying to probably forget about her through Di. I think he wanted to start it afresh since Camilla was also married. Probably thats why he said whatever love means. He was pissed I guess with life and love I feel. I dont think it was a personal attack on Di at all. Charles as we know can be honest and blunt and feels embarrassed afterwards for his actions or words. I think they both were in a tough spot here. I only feel sad that Di passed on too early. She could have lived a more fulfilling life had she been still ard.

Looking at this through the lens of The Crown, Charles' response really was awful. Clearly the palace, and British government, had a long history of forcing or denying marriages with ruinous results.

It is so sad that Prince Charles was forced into this marriage and had to give up his one true love,Camilla.All because he had to follow Royal tradition.And it was Princess Diana who paid so tragically in the end.It gives me so much sadness and anger beyond comprehension.I’m happy he ended up marrying Camilla,but we lost a beautiful woman into the bargain. It’s time that this tradition changed,after all,it was Henry VIII who started all the scandal of divorce and multiple wives,why were they so ashamed of divorcees?Harry & Meghan are better off out of it all,like HRH Edward VIII & The Duchess of Windsor,they showed what was more important than anything-Love 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I look at these imagining that Harry has seen them and thinking who wouldn't want to climb right outside of one's own heritage.

The worst thing to ever happen to her was to get involved with the lizard family.
