Elvis Presley - "How The Web Was Woven" (rehearsal, 1970)

During rehearsals for his upcoming Vegas engagement starting August 10th, 1970, at the International Hotel Las Vegas, Elvis is sitting alone at the piano reminiscing about his recent recoding of "How The Was Woven". MGM's cameras are there to capture the moment while filming for their concert documentary "Elvis - That's The Way It Is" directed by Denis Sanders.

All Elvis needs is one second to show why he's the King. These thirty-seven seconds is more than we deserve.

Elvis breathed new life into this Jackie Lomax version, stirring a deep soulfulness, proving- once again- what a consummate Artist Elvis was. He possessed a perfect ear and perfect voice. He also happened to look like a Greek God.

Hi from England ELVIS was the personification of the word "STAR". However, there existed a dichotomy of his personality because while he was extremely religious on one hand he could be frivolous on the other, and so insecure that he would walk on stage with a derringer in his boots, and in the end STILL LONELY, STILL INSECURE about a career that was constantly changing and STILL missing the warmth that only Gladys could provide. ELVIS DIED AN ENIGMA, hopefully in peace. After 45 years we still miss ELVIS and watching this snippet tears 😭😭😭are rolling down my cheeks♥♥♥🌹🌹🌹👍👍👍

Most people consider Elvis a 'Guitar Slinger'...When in fact he was a Far better Piano player than he was ever given Credit for...Surprised that it was Never showcased more than it was..

yes , i think it s because elvis is associated with rock and roll music and the main instrument of that music is guitar but elvis was indeed a more brillant piano player than a guitar player

Elvis was talented, but I think he could of been better if he would of taken the time with it and practiced more, but He liked being Elvis to much to of shown the real talent he had. Imagine if he would of done piano and played guitar on stage. And I don’t mean the fake stuff he did later in the seventies where he used it as a prop or throw it to Charlie to catch for showmanship.

"Elvis often played piano in private. Did he ever jam together with you? Not together. I know he did play a little bit. I thought he was about the worst piano player I ever heard! (laughs)" That is taken from an interview with Elvis' pianist Glen D. Hardin

I believe it’s partly bc it’s very restricting to sit down and play the piano and sing during a performance.

This is the same time as he played, il take you home again Kathleen, and also the melody of an old hymn, it's on utube too. Elvis could play the piano, and play it well, its not the plonk across the keys we've seen and heard him do before, its sliding his long fingers up and down the scale as a concert pianist would do. He,s just finished rehearsals here and winding down, in his own little world. He,s in a pensive mood here, looks quite sad even, maybe the lyrics are getting to him , things weren't going right personally for him at the time. I wished he,d sang How The Web Was Woven live, and accompanied himself on the piano, what a treat that would have been. John Wilkerson, s look says it all, so proud of him. Elvis could play a plethora of musical instruments, but I think his piano playing is well overlooked. It was said that at Graceland he,d often sit at his piano and sing alone, Lisa said she loved to hear her Daddy singing and playing the piano. A very very talented man was Elvis.

Elvis was not a great guitar player, largely because he sang so well and stopped developing those skills upon becoming super famous. However, Johnny Cash described Elvis as a great rhythm guitarist and Elvis would surprise people by sometimes taking the guitar and playing lead quite well. In fact, and it appears Graceland took it offKZread, but there's a great segment from the 68 Comeback Special where Elvis has to kill time and just takes an electric guitar and plays for a few minutes straight unaccompanied and it's great. I'd suggest forking over the money to buy the new and soon to be released of the 68' Comeback Special as it will be on there along with many other things you haven't seen.
