Elvis Presley | Before They Were Gone | BIOGRAPHY

BEFORE Elvis Presley was dubbed the King of Rock and Roll.
BEFORE his gyrating hips and “black”-sounding music scandalized white America.
BEFORE Frank Sinatra threw shade his way.
BEFORE his massive weight gain, drug abuse and rhinestone-covered stage costumes would mark a clear divide between young Elvis and fat Elvis.
BEFORE Eminem would pick up where Elvis left off.
BEFORE Graceland, Elvis' home for 20 years became one of the most visited homes in America, attracting over 600,000 visitors per year.
Elvis grew up in the deep south, where his family would survive an F5 tornado in 1936. His father struggled to pay the bills-so much so that his financial problems would land him in jail. Elvis would then be raised by his mother, and be a shy, bullied loner throughout high school.
His early musical influences included: Hank Snow, Roy Acuff, Ernest Tubb, Ted Daffan, Jimmie Rodgers, Jimmie Davis, Bob Wills, Jake Hess, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Shortly after high school, Elvis was packaged as a white musician who could bring black music to white audiences. But after achieving unparalleled success in the music industry, and more than a decade of movie stardom, Elvis would struggle with prescription drug addiction, weight gain, and a turbulent love life.

I' m 54 and I know exactly where I was when I heard he died. My mother was in the kitchen cooking dinner. My Dad and brother had gone to the country to visit my grandmother. I was on the couch watching an old Star Trek rerun....when across the bottom of the t.v. screen it said Elvis had died. I immediately told my mother and the first thing she said..."oh, I don't believe that." She finally believed it when she saw it on the evening news.

I was at home in Bellwood, Il. when my neighbor came downstairs and told me to turn on my T.V. We watched the news telling us Elvis died! We cried and decided to go to the bar next door to have a beer. Well that turned out to be a few hours before my husband came to get me. I was a mother of 2 little boys, so I did not have money to go to Memphis for the funeral. I watched all the news clips tho and cried forever. I am now 62 years old and still pine for Elvis! Sad huh??? He will always be the one and only REAL LOVE of my life.

Omg you read some very bad info on Elvis before you completed this video.... There is so much more to Elvis... Plus his end was not solely drugs he was very ill... Don't mess with the King.... He changed music not many have ever done that.... Most records sold ever... Most number 1 hits omg.... Also your pronunciation of Tupelo and other... What about 1968 comeback show the 1973 Aloha concert and his 1972 madison square garden shows record breaking..... You left so so much positive out...

Idk why people say Elvis hated the Beatles. Sure Elvis was worried about losing his title as king to a British band but that was purely competition not malicious in any way. Elvis very much liked the Beatles sound hence he recorded many of their songs. The Beatles agreed with this in one of their interviews

the legend is that Elvis' problem with drugs began while he was in the Army. He was an MP, and sometimes did overnight guard duty, so he began using downers to get sleep during the day, and uppers to stay awake for his duty.

Right. Where do I start? It's difficult, I realise, to contain Elvis Presley's entire life in 10 minutes. I get that. But to dismiss Elvis' greatest performance, the 1968 NBC special without acknowledging its importance in terms of his life and career is nonsensical. It was vital in transforming him from a racing driver singing to dogs on the beach into one of the most relevant and vital live performers at that time. He needed it and this enabled him to stand up to Colonel Tom Parker's wishes (where is Parker in this video?) for the only time in his career. x

You got the wrong guy when you showed Bill Black and you completely looked over his 68 Special Comeback and his revival from 1969-1973 which included the world's most viewed concert of all time Aloha From Hawaii and a mention that he is the highest selling artist of all time in both singles and albums with 114 top 40 hits, twice as much as anyone else would have been nice too. Do an After They Were Dead for Elvis as well but please be more diligent about your information on him.

Elvis wasn't racists! he was the most generous man to have ever walked this planet! please do some research before chatting shit. Elvis gave away millions to charity throughout his life, paid for all his friends and family's houses, food, cars and many other stuff. He gave always 90,000 worth of cars to random people in a week whose cars broke down outside his house! TELL ME WHO ELSE WOULD DO THAT??!? He made millions and when he died he had 5 million in his bank and the reason for that is because he loved giving! he loved everyone! He was worked to death because Parker (his manger) had a gambling addiction, he was losing millions a night and the only way he would get the money back is by Elvis. Due to Elvis working his butt meaning he started taking medication and as with everything, when you have it lots the effect gets weaker so he took more, Elvis thought that if it was given by a doctor it was good for you! when it wasn't . Elvis was the kindest man this planet will ever see!
