Elvis Presley's First House in Memphis | Photo Comparisons and Tour of the property
Elvis purchased the house on March 12, 1956, for $29,500 from the Welsh Plywood Corporation and placed a down-payment of $500 on the house. He was only 21 years old. Shortly after moving there, his song Heartbreak Hotel became the most popular song in the nation (before topping the Billboard charts at #1 in April), and fans mobbed the house, which quickly became a focal visiting point for fans, celebrities and the media. Photos of the house were published in national magazines such as Look, Seventeen, and Parade. Police frequently were called to deal with the mobs of fans who would line the street. The crush of fans and photographers became too much, and after 13 months. Elvis moved to Graceland and sold the Audubon Drive property as part of the his mansion and estate’s purchase. Elvis and Graceland owner Ruth Moore swapped residences; she moved into the Audubon home as he moved into the mansion-estate. The property has been sold about eight times since.

Hello and welcome to the World of Micah! I travel around filming everything and anything I find interesting -from theme parks to abandoned urban exploring. If you enjoy learning more about Disney history, tips & secrets or a fan of Walt Disney World nostalgia you have come to the right place. I also enjoy showing Universal Studios history and taking a look of what’s left of from classic attractions like JAWS and ‪Back to the Future‬. More of an Urban Exploring fan? I travel around Central Florida and film everything from abandoned Toys “R” Us stores to abandoned attractions. I'm also a major Movie Buff! I have found the filming locations from such films as Edward Scissorhands, Halloween (1978) & Hocus Pocus!

So cool that Elvis lived in that house! It looks very much the same except for those monster trees. I'll bet Elvis would have liked the trees 🙂

To truly appreciate his rags to riches story, everyone should visit both his first house in Tupelo as well as Graceland.

Neat stuff... There will never be another king..... So I am guessing since they sometimes give tours , no one is actually living in the house....like the section of video where you showed pictures... Great pictures of Elvis... Thanks for sharing... Take care.... Have a great day.. thanks

Back in the 90's I took a tour of the inside and back yard. Mike Freeman owned it at the time. Was nice and homey. Wished now I had gone swimming in the pool looked refreshing.

Just think, this was the first real home of Elvis and his parents and the start of better things to come. I love seeing how happy they all looked in the photosho butGladys was happy for awhile but after seeing Elvis getting mobbed it really scared Gladys. She feared for Elvis' safety. Soon after moving to Graceland Gladys told a friend that she wished that they were poor again. I think at it affected Gladys.
