This song happened out of the blue while attempting to record a different song. They were getting frustrated because it wasn't working until drummer John Bonham started playing the drum part of the Little Richard song Keep A' Knockin. It sounded so good, they continued with this and set the other song aside to finish another day. This song is a nod to Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and other Rock and Roll style musicians. For example, they mention "It's been a long time since I did the stroll" the stroll was a dance from the late '50s. They also mention "the Book of Love" which was the name of a song by the Monotones which came out in 1957. The boogie woogie style piano is played by Rolling Stones member Ian Stewart.

Lex doesn't miss a thing, hearing the piano come in, which totally gave it that old school rock n roll vibe like Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard, adding intensity and brightness. Led Zepplin grew up into those guys, and Robert Plant loved Elvis, so Brad totally caught that. That Led Zeppelin song helped reinvent or modernize what straight up rock n roll could sound like, with a symphony of guitar sounds throughout plus an insane solo, the relentless Bonham drum beat, with John Paul Jones keeping pace, Plant's wailing. Jimmy Page is the GOAT in guitar playing and the producing/engineering. If you want to hear a song with incredible guitar and vocal layers, check out Achilles Last Stand.

@@TheOneAndOnlyFloridaMan Not a poet, just brilliant all around. Thanks. I'm afraid it's not so simple as, "just don't watch it". I dig these reactors (Lex, mostly, of course), and I'm hoping they'll continue reacting to Zep, my favorite band. So the last thing I want is for them to react to a dud song from the catalog, and stop reacting to the band. I've seen it happen before with other reactors--one bad song from a band and even if they liked them prior to that reaction, they put them on the back burner for new (new to them) bands, and never get back to them. If they'd already reacted to 40 of the best Zeppelin tunes, then I probably would've been reticent on the matter.

This band was formed in an industrial area of the W Midlands of England known as the ‘Black Country’ due to the dirt and smoke from the steelworks etc. Zep did a song called ‘Black Country Woman’ and is so often missinterpreted - worth a listen.

A man looking back on his life and love, probably with the same woman, and recalling their passions in those days when they were young and danced to early rock 'n roll. This music harkens back to the rhythms of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. Great rock and roll from an era earlier than LZ.

Brad (kinda) likes a Zep tune, YES!! With them sometimes you just gotta let the beat slide & go with it, cause they're always using complicated time signatures, which ADDS to the track IMO. Now that you've heard a fast one from them, try a real slow and dreamy one with "The Rain Song." Lex will love it; Brad...we're not sure lol. ✌

Since Brad mentioned it sounding a little like Elvis: They both had their roots in Mississippi blues. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were both huge Elvis fans. There is a great story if you run a search for it, that is too long to just post here (as it was told by Robert Plant on David Letterman show). It ends with Elvis coming out into the hallway as Led Zeppelin were leaving his hotel room and him and Robert singing "Love me" together.

Not too complex, it's just a blues, turned way up. Three chords repeated over and over. Hard driving with powerful drumming, great guitar solos and strong vocals with a 1950s style piano riff thrown in. Can't go wrong with Zep for sure, many great ones to react to. I'd recommend How Many More Times and Dazed and Confused if you haven't already done those.

This song is about the early days of rock & roll. It references a couple songs from that era, such as The Stroll by The Diamonds and Book Of Love by The Monotones. Like so many musicians of that era, the members of Led Zeppelin were deeply influenced by the pop music of the '50s, as well as by even older blues artists. This is one of my favorite songs from them. To hear a song from that time that should remind you of Zep's Rock & Roll, you might want to listen to Chuck Berry's Roll Over Beethoven.
