Elton John - Song For Guy
Музыка
This video for Elton’s only principally instrumental single was shot on the set of the Australian music television show Countdown and broadcast on December 1978. Elton explains in his autobiography ‘Me’ that the song was named after Guy Burchett, a 17 year-old messenger boy for his company who had died in a motorcycle crash “at virtually the same time I was writing the song.” Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour band member Ray Cooper can be heard playing wind chimes and shakers on the track.

me too in 64 i met elton when this came out i was a chef and i cooked for him he signed me the 7" single of this your right beautiful song
I delivered newspapers in my early teens and struck up a friendship with another delivery boy. Our paths used to cross in the mornings when we collected our delivery loads. The other lad also had a motorbike which he cherished. Our friendship was brief as one day when I went to collect my delivery the owner of the newsagent informed that this lad had died the night before in a motor bike crash. Though I was upset it didn't register too deeply at the time but over the years I think of him from time to time and wonder how his life would have panned out if he was still alive and how unfair it was that his life was cut so short. This was 50 odd years ago and I still think of him from time to time.
My mum was diagnosed with early onset dementia this year, age 56 . Doesn’t know me anymore, doesn’t recognise me . I used to listen to this song in my early twenties when I was stressed or worried, or scared - gave me comfort . Six weeks ago I found a cassette tape of my mum’s titled ‘relaxation’ - same song, same age - she would have been early 20s too. Listen to it now when I miss my mum, makes me feel she’s still with me in some sense .

When may grandmother died with 56, i had 8 years old. After the funeral, i entered in the room of my uncle to take a book off his shelf. When i opened the door, i saw him sit in his armachair with eyes closed listenning a piano song. After many years, i started to like Elton John's music. One day, i was running around a big lake in the city where my grandmother once lived and in some new coffee shop this song was playing. I entered, bought a bottle of water and asked the attendant which song was that. Song For a Guy, he said.
This man is still performing after 60 years. One of the greatest artist ever. This is one of his best numbers😢❤
Where the ebony and ivory do the talking. A masterpiece!
1978 I was 9 years old, I was sound asleep and in the distance this song woke me up and I felt like floating in the clouds, I still have that feeling every time I hear it

Mijn vader is op deze muziek vredig heen gegaan… trots om hem te helpen, op een v zijn favoriete nummers…maar de liefde voor hem is voor eeuwig
"Song For Guy" shows an introspective, thoughtful Elton, obviously reflecting on his own mortality.
I had a tape with both sides recorded with this number solely. In 1979 or 1980 i was sailing with my yachtclub across waters between Sealand and Lolland, Denmark and the tape was rolling. The music fell in sync with the waves, so it was a pure bliss.
Just........ Beautiful.......,...... No words to express.....
Great piece of masterwork........
As a heavy metal fan, I've never bothered to listen to this type of music, but I must admit, Elton John was a genius in his own right. This track is quite moving and a great tribute to the lad who died. Some of his early stuff was really good and I respect the comments of those who have lost loved ones. It's great that a song can do so much to uplift the soul and bring back those memories. Thanks Elton Bill
This song was too beautiful and a beautiful tribute he paid to the deceased boy.

I recently lost a good friend this was played at his funeral - so relevant to him 😊
I'm so thankful I have lived during Elton's lifetime. His music has thrilled me for decades, and seeing him in concert was a joy-filled experience.
Synrhesiser break in this track is beautiful. Hits the sweet spot in your emotions. Gorgeous track.

One of the best Elton John songs. I'm really happy that they uploaded videoclip for it.
For an instrumental track, it packs a hefty emotional punch. I was floored by it when it first came out in 1978, and 45 years later it still brings a lump to my throat every time I hear it. ❤

I love this just as much now as I did when it came out...still get goose pimples....reminds me of my parents and family at Xmas in 79...
Last year, back in April, me and the family made the sad decision to say goodbye to our springer spaniel called Oscar. Later that evening I listened to this song; I can’t ever listen to this song again without thinking of him.
Altough Elton was really going through bad times during late 70s - mid 80s he still made really good songs. "Life isn't everything"

One of the purest expressions of human's heart. I will always think about my father who's passed away. Probably one of the most beautiful proof of human race. Only a genius could write this song. It's immortal, and will ever touch my soul, a spiritual enchantment.

May be it is spiritually enchanting. In late 70s this tune was released. I've always felt it a melancholy tune with Elton singing 'life isn't everything', which I thought was about someone who had died - didn't know about the story until now. Strange of the few pop records my mum bought, somehow she bought this and I'd play it repeatedly. So it's very special to me. Thanks. ♥️

The version he does at this in his 1992 Barcelona concert is nothing short of otherworldly.
The Solina strings starting in short bursts at 0:48 are ethereal.
Such a Great and TIMELESS MUSIC from the Genius, Mr Elton John
Elton’s combination and use of rhythm, accenting and dynamics in his music are second to none.
I absolutely love this song.👌
Saludos
Elton John, even at the hardest times, he overcomes ! Born to win. Sir Elton John, the soundtrack of my entire life since 1972. Blessings to him!
Love, love, love! 👌😘👏💖👍✨
Ken Bruce played this as my ‘Wordless Wonder’ request on Greatest Hits Radio yesterday - fantastic!
I have recently got into buying vinyls as I was gifted with a turntable for my birthday, and a few weeks ago, while on the hunt for something new to buy, I came across Elton's album A Single Man, and immediately bought it. Listened to it during the evening and this song stood out to me the most, and has become probably one of my favourite Elton songs of all time, this album is really a gem and I am really glad I found it.
☺️❤️ “life isn’t everything”
Since I was young, I really love the song melody contrast between the calm, down to earth sequence and the then ethereal, heavenly and magic part. It just really drive our state of mind into putting our entire life memories into perspective.
Fantastic and touching song by far in my humble opinion Eltons best song😢
I’m not Elton john fan, it’s not that I don’t realise how talented he is , it’s not my type of music but this is a masterpiece of music , guaranteed to make me cry somehow.
