I froze when Elton said his mother said "I love you but I dont like you"..My mother would say that to me all the time..As I got older and had my own kids she has since taken that back in her own way..But wow..I even sat my Son down years ago and told him "I love you..And I really like you"..And let him know there's a difference..

It's no surprise that Elton John lived a remarkable life (and still is) and has made an impact on the world, even in the midst of his own difficulties which eventually he conquered: getting help, becoming sober, changing his perspective, and finally finding love and raising his own children. And in the words of one of his and Bernie's songs, he's still standing better than he ever did and looking like a true survivor. God bless you, Sir Elton.

My mom says the same thing to my brother, when he asks why she doesn't visit or seem to care about him as much as me and my sister. She says "because I don't like you" which sounds harsh, but he's ruined his life with drugs and been a horrible father. Sometimes it's best for your mental health to avoid people you can't get on with, family or not.

If there's anything I would like to say for elton's mother it was difficult but I'm glad that they did reconcile and I believe in the end she truly did love her son she cared for him she opened her heart to him he was able to fix his ways and of course it wasn't easy with the whole relationship between him and David furnish but over time she just felt more happy that he was happy because in the movie she said that he'll never be loved properly but what is proper about love there's no perfection in it there is love and then there's true love love is you fall in love with somebody you open your feelings to them they start to get close to you and you feel happiness but then there's true love where you open your heart and you finally find the one the one that God has made for you and my personal pan I was once a guy who judge people for a lot of things but then over time I learn to not judge anybody buy anything I would never and sold a person because of their race Creed gender not their heights not a how they look I learned to just believe in two things God first and foremost and equality 2nd and greatest I learned over time that judging people is not the right way it is not what God intended for us I learn to love people and I don't care what they look like because I followed an actor's advice you can be tall or short or thin or fat or handsome or ugly you can be black or white or purple it doesn't matter what does matter is the size of your heart and the strength of your character. And in that strength your character did you know that you find strength when you talk to God if you're willing to confess your problems to God it becomes less hard for people in fact it makes life easier day by day you learn to get over your addictions by decreasing day by day to the point where you like I don't do this again. Since Elton had learned to get over his addictions and his anger and his behavior I think that every person should do one thing change not just change for yourself but change for God if you're willing to open your heart to the Creator and you know that he will forgive you if you're willing to ask for it if you're willing to talk to him every single day about your problems tell him that I have changed and you shall be a better person with a reborn so or as they call it born again. My advice to an addict who is learning to become sober and continues to be sober is if you're learning and willing to change who you are now become better for people and do it learn to become a better person open your heart to the Creator because he knows in your heart you want to break free from your addictions. Oh my love goes to those who are becoming sober and truly becoming silver and all my love goes to those who has been sober for decades at a time and also all my love goes to Elton John and once again Elton I wish to say congratulations on almost three decades of Being Sober. God bless you God bless your family.

It's a shame about his relationship between his mother and himself. I bet she being a certain generation, wasn't thrilled with the true reality of her son's relationship. I think their unconditional love was compromised there. On possibly the times back then and strong belief systems. Possible feelings of being robbed of future family as a mother. Non accepting of long term career absences, addictive drinking & drug use, partner choices & lack of grandchildren. That was the part she probably felt she didn't like of him. I would imagine she loved him so much, she was upset at herself. This because she couldn't change him. He is her son, that part I'm sure she would always love of him. Sadly, you can't always embrace the talents of someone you expect so much of.

@@toryjohnson9595 Maybe, but back then not so much. I have a son and adore him. No mother truly dislikes her son, I will never accept that at all. It's things that get in the way of a overwhelming life she has in her mind. How things will be for him and ultimately that fantasy carries over to her own life of that too. Society and her role in it at the time. Just knowing the reality of drug use and hopelessness of things she couldn't change. Not to mention her own guilt involved as being a mother. What she could have done or shouldn't have ect.

Then it was never unconditional love. It was about her passing on some imaginary legacy instead of seeing her son as an individual worthy of creating his own. I speak from experience on that one. If someone treats you poorly due to drug use or other reasons, fine. By all means put up boundaries & shut them out. But "partner choice" & "lack of grandchildren" are not acceptable reasons to cut off your child (unless said partner has convinced your son to join ISIS or smtg).

Why is it we never here Sir Paul talk about regretting his drug use in the early days? Its disheartening to read and hear how prevalent drugs were during the Beetles heyday. Weed, LSD and other stuff they imbibed, all talked about as if it were normal, no big deal, just part of the scene, Really Paul? He may have been resilient enough for the "experience" but I think it took its toll on John. Ringo needed to get clean and sober after years of cocaine and alcohol abuse well after the split and was honest about what it cost him.

Elton's mother had every right to be angry with him and to hate David. Her interview is just one of many articles saying that Elton fired all her friends at David's behest--it was looked into and confirmed. Of course, Elton cleverly omitted any mention of this in his memoir, and used all kinds of smoke and mirrors to make her look unreasonable. That woman deserves a purple heart for what her son put her through.

Except he does mention firing people in his book. Funnily enough, his career has gone better since they’ve gone. They were his employees not “her friends”. It’s clear that she did not want Elton to have a life away from her. Telling Elton on camera that his father didn’t like him much. How manipulative is that? Interesting that he is now friendly with his father’s family.

@Steven Lee I can accept some things can evolve over time, through experience, but I will never agree that I and all creation came from a big bang out of nowhere and that I evolved from an ape species to a Neanderthal and finally man as we know it. I believe and know to be true that, we all were created by a loving Father in heaven in His image and lived with Him and our heavenly Mother in our premortal existence as spirits. When we wanted to be like Him; a perfected being, we were given the choice to receive a physical body so that we could experience a mortal life or stay in the spirit realm. We chose mortality. Unfortunately, Father knew that we would make mistakes and bad choices so He provided a Saviour for us who would Atone and sacrifice His life to save us. We then shouted for joy at that prospect. The Devil wanted all the glory for himself and wanted to force all of us to obey return to heaven, Jesus Christ was willing to give His life and our moral agency to choose whether we would obey and make good choices without force to return home to Father. Therefore it would give all of us the opportunity to once again live in our heavenly home, if we chose. For his rebellion, Lucifer was cast down with all the spirits who followed him without physical bodies and he and they are all miserable and filled with hate for all of us, so he continues to tempt us with negative thoughts and ideas; we still have the freedom to choose to listen to him or not. Either way, there will be a consequence. No-one is forced to obey or comply; that is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Wickedness never was happiness; so by choosing and experiencing we all have the chance to be happy or miserable. Satan wishes for us all to be as miserable and hateful as he is. Ultimately, you can never do right by doing wrong and you can never do wrong by doing right. True Christianity is not man-made; the interpretations of it is though because many men have ulterior motives to gain popularity, fame, wealth and control which is in complete opposition to Jesus Christ. Without opposition people would not be able to make choices, fortunately we were all born with the inherent knowledge of the difference between good and evil and the choice is ours which way to go. Have a great day.
