When I worked at a Rock/New Age nightclub in the early '80s, the sound crew opened every night with this song. It was a huge art deco movie palace. So the guest would enter the empty hall with this blowing the dust out of the speakers. Love this song.

That's Davey Johnstone in the long blonde hair. He has been with Elton since 1971 ---certainly through the golden period of the 1970's and on most of the albums afterward. BTW, that's Nigel Olssen on drums who also has been with Elton since the early 1970's This song kicks off Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (album). I saw the tour of that in 1974 and he started the concert with this one....dark stage and the smoke swirling as Elton kicked off the concert with that ARP synthesizer and his piano. Unbelievable.

One of the greatest rock songs of all time in my opinion. The guitar work and the rhythm, the energy of "Love Lies Bleeding" is as good a rock tune as you'll hear. "Funeral for a Friend" is a nice intro but "Love Lies Bleeding" is a song you just can't sit still and listen to.

His band mates have been with him for decades. If he has made one bad track in all these years, I don't think I've heard it. I saw Elton about 10 years ago and he played for over 3 hours and he took NO breaks. The band took breaks, off and on during songs that were just piano and such but he stayed out on stage the entire evening playing, singing and talking with the audience. He played nearly every major hit he ever had and then, then he came out and did about a 10 minute encore and the guy was like 65 or so years old at the time. We certainly got our money's worth and then some!

I grew up with the music of Elton John & had a lot of his records. He was really big in the 70's-80's. He collaborated with Bernie Taupin since 1967 on more than 30 albums. They were one of the best song writing teams. Bernie wrote the lyrics & Elton supplied the melody. They had so many great hits together such as "Your Song", "Levon", "Tiny Dancer", "Rocket Man", "Honky Cat, "Crocodile Rock", "Daniel", "Bennie & The Jets", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", "Candle In The Wind", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", "The Bitch Is Back", "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" etc.

I love "Someone Saved My Life" and one that rarely gets mentioned, "Feel Like a Bullet (From the Gun of etc)". Love Harri's reactions; he and I have simultaneously been in 3 different places in and around London, at the same time! But...we never met. Shame. I would have played all our great music to him, a lot sooner. He makes me miss Upton Park. I am in semi rural Suffolk on the East Coast of England for last 22 years. One thing about a piano, the sound never gets old! The voices may change, but the sound of Elton's piano will stand the test of time. I fully expect future generations will regard him as being up there with Bach and Beethoven. He's been a constant source of joy for me musically I bless him for that. Davey Johnstone is the guitarist who will never leave Elton's band. They are like brothers. #PeaceAndLove!

Elton John is one of those artists whose album cuts (songs that were never released as singles) are often as widely-known and popular as his singles. And there is no better example of this phenomenon that this song/medley. Just a phenomenal piece of music. And yes, the studio version is probably a little better. But this is a really good live performance, too. For something on the completely opposite end of the spectrum, check out his song "Love Song," from the album "Tumbleweed Connection." As loud and driving as this song is, "Love Song" is just the opposite. And it's a beautiful piece of music, too. (As are several other songs on that incredible album. My favorite from that album is probably "Where to Now St. Peter?")

The man is a giant on stage! He has to be regarded as a national treasure in the UK. In American he is revered as if he were a founding father. Truly I am surprised that his visage hasn't been carved on one of our remote mountains, ala Mount Rushmore. The live performance you presented was spectacular and yet the original tour energy made this version appear as sedate as a High Tea. His tribute to Marilyn Monroe "Candle in the Wind" left everyone in tears. In 1980 he gave a free concert in Central Park of NYC for over 300,000 of his fans dressed in the full regalia of Donald Duck. He held the audience in the palm of his hand and he commanded the stage. The only American act that comes close is Jerry Lee Lewis and Elton John makes him look like a piker. May God bless this Mad Man from across the water.

I actually had a dog named Bennie and a cat named Jet, after the song Bennie and the Jets, but I was into his music long before this. "Funeral for a Friend" is the first half (the whole instrumental part). A local station in New York got THOUSANDS of requests for it in the months after 9/11.

Great song from his 1973 double album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, where there isn't a bad song on the record. My favorite album from Elton.

Not long after the Beatles broke up John Lennon was spotted by a journalist at LAX. The journalist asked Lennon , what brings you here? Lennon answered , I’m here to meet an artist that is the next Beatles, Elton John. No one knew who Elton John was at that moment but the press paid attention and began covering his live performances.

I've been requesting this song for 6 months . I guess you were just waiting for a patreon to request it to play it . Hope you enjoy it

Harri that other guy was half the genius of Elton & Bernie one of the greatest song writing duos. OK now let's get up and boogy, rockers optional. 1973 classic.

Best song off his best album. It's great when he starts the live show with this. Berzerkely Greek Theatre summer 1984. Only F----n $20🤑 He's retired now. The reason he is so flashy is because most other lead musicians don't have to sit behind a huge grand piano. He wanted to be noticed.

IMHO this live version is just as good as the original studio cut. It's almost note for note the same. But, his drummer and guitarist are still the same guys from that recording, so, maybe that's why! Peace! RIP Dee Murray, the original bassist.
