No doubt about it. He was a very good bassist, He had a good sense of melody and working within the song's structure with the bass in his own unique way. Hugs from the Netherlands.

Nice job. I always loved this bassline. Beautiful. Dee Murray really had his job cut out for him. Elton covered so much ground on piano that he had to find pockets to fill ... and he did, man!

gorcanto I loved Dee Murray, man! He played like a boss! I can listen to him on an endless loop of "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding." He gets such great volume and pop that I always wondered if he was using a plectrum, or maybe he was playing closer to the bridge? (Sorry, that's speculation borne of ignorance.) Infusion, can you shed some light on this for me? Would love to hear you cover that one.

I'm learning ot get better with timing on bass and it seems to me Dee Murray really played way outside the drum pattern itself, while maintaining the beat.. what is that called? Is it that the bassline is leading or pushing the drum's beat (in synch but shifted over) or something?
